Sorry Ruth for causing you a panic this morning!! We have had the pleasure of the company of the gorgeous Minnie for the Easter weekend. As our longest stayer, she has been in kennels since 25th February, we thought it would be nice to give her a break from kennel routine and see how she fared in a home environment. Pop over to the Facebook page to see some photos. She had to be lifted into the car! but travelled really well. She sniffed absolutely everything in sight on arrival at home, but within about 1/2 hour was chilled and settled. She was fascinated by the washing machine, watching the drum go round, and wasn't phased by the TV or game console noises. She is so inquisitive and out on our walks, she was on alert with her radar ears for every new sight & sound. We didn't encounter any other dogs so can't speak for how she would be, but we saw lots of wildlife in the form of Canada Geese & ducks on the fishing pools we walked round and lots of large birds in the fields - she was interested, but quickly responded to distraction and walked on nicely. She doesn't pull but does like to take in everything that is going on around her. Cant believe how quickly she settled into the house, and we had no accidents at all. She loves her food, and did try a bit of counter surfing, but again after correction she learnt to go and sit on her bed whilst we ate our meals. This girl is so ready for her forever home, and will bring so much pleasure. She is confident, likes to know you are around, but also enjoys some "alone" time where she just wants to chill out on her bed and be left alone. We loved having her as a perfect house guest - and really hope that someone will soon be lucky enough to have her join their family. Good luck sweetheart, and thankyou for a lovely weekend. x

It has been such a fabulous day with the sun shining and the lovely Vonnie and Mollie were in this Bank Holiday morning to help me. We let all the dogs out muzzled so they could roam and interact and then we had Amy and her fella (oops can't remember his name!) come to help with walking along with volunteer Dave, whilst Laura and Eloise arrived and took the dogs in turn into the sand run whilst we did some grooming. We had one unfortunately split her web space :-(((( I saw Rocky out on trial… after a struggle getting him in the car! Alex has had a great day pottering around and eating well in between sleeping under the desk and so far so good - he has not been sick today and is so happy! The owners of Florence came up for her to have her nails cut.... and after seeing Alex, they kindly offered a foster (hoping to be permanent if all goes well) home for Alex which I am absolutely over the moon about! Louisa and Myra came this afternoon to help so I have been well supported by volunteers. We have an automatic winding hose and sadly the mechanisim has broken - so if anyone has a spare or would like to donate one (wishful thinking!) I would be incredibly grateful! Happy Bank Holiday Monday everyone.... it's been a lovely day x

Fabulous news about Alex. Ruth I don't know if you remember that late last year I had a conversation with your about our Grey Douggie, he just would not eat, he is now on Prodog raw and he's put weight on, his coat is fabulous and he's much happier. I really hope it has the same effect on Alex, I saw his photo on his just giving page last night and it quite upset me, he's so skinny, but I'm hoping now he's on the right road back to full health, he is being looked after so well by you, thank you xxxx

The gorgeous Alex is doing absolutely brilliant at the moment (touch wood!) He was given a prescription diet which he would absolutely not touch! I have spent many an hour researching and I started him on raw food. So far he is eating well and is very happy and lively! He has inflammatory bowel disease which should be able to be controlled by diet. I am going away from next Monday for a week and am desperate to find a foster home for him whilst I am away. If you think you can help and have adopted from Daybreaks before, please call me - I am at the kennels every day this week. 0121 782 7702.

I had a heart attack this morning! I opened up the kennels and there was Minnie's kennel, with her sheet on her door but NO MINNIE! I then found out she had gone out for a sleepover with Angie and Michael - phew! Panic over! That will teach me to look at the board first before calling Jo on her day off! Sorry Jo x

Well, usually on a Sunday I have the most amazing group of volunteers. Everyone decided to take today off!! It was just myself and Dave Maisie Moo for cleaning and feeding, shortly followed by Rob and Megan who comes in for morning walks as part of her D of E course and finally Alison. Many thanks to them all for their help and hard work. It was very quiet for visitors, we had Early Shirley to use the sand run and then we had the Beagle party who are now a regular Sunday morning booking, there are loads of them!!!! Well as always stay safe and well. Xx

Ruth brought Alex to the kennels with her today. He looks a very skinny boy at the moment but it didn't stop his tail wagging. 🙂 He is a very friendly lad who loves everyone he meets. Xxx We tried everything to get him to eat his food but he just didn't like it. :(( He would have loved to tuck into a tin of ordinary dog food but it's just not right for him. :(( He was quite happy sitting in the back kitchen with Skip and Lyra this afternoon. He is a special boy. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Sending him my cuddle tonight. Xxx
