    Over the Rainbow Bridge

My beautiful Daisy has had a special lesson in ttouch - and she just loved it. So we are practising for 15 minutes a day. She has a nice pink wrap and a purple fleecy harness and matching lead are on their way. Daisy actually sat with me for an hour today in a busy Nissan dealership while my car was mended. She lay down, and just looked around, listening to all the noises and watching everything and everybody with her ears up and alert. And then she actually wanted to walk round the block - which means walking by a busy road for little way - and then past a farm with BIG cows. Daisy even managed to walk passed a man in a van without crossing the road. Love you Daisydog. xx

    I’m Homed

Sorry to hear Bob not improving. Are you sure it is something to do with his foot as Rolo has developed a hop on back leg which we thought at first was corn related as he is prone. After getting a 2nd opinion by a greyhound specialist vet he has diagnosed with a spur on his spine causing the lameness. The lameness is still there but less so on soft ground such as grass or sand. He is now on medication to manage his pain levels. Rolo is also very tight through his back muscles but is also very grumpy when touched but massage would help him if we can gradually get him used to being touched. We are starting to do little massage strokes at home in the hope that Paul may one day be able to work on him to release his muscles. Just might be worth getting another opinion.

  • Walter

    I’m Homed

Hi, I wondered if I could ask for some advice please. We have gone a bit wrong with integrating Walter and our cat Tilly which has resulted in a very scary moment on Sunday night. Tilly came into the living room and Walter got up off the rug and chased her through the house & pinned her to the ground. Rew pulled him off & thankfully the cat is remarkably unscathed. Rew told him off which we dont do as a firm no is usually enough for Walter and he looked very sheepish and subdued for the rest of the night and following morning so it was clear he knew he had done something wrong. We usually carefully manage their time together - one of us holds Walters collar and Tilly moves about freely. Even reading that now I wonder if we have been making it a big thing by handling it in that way. He usually shows no interest at all unless Tilly meowws or runs & that does make him raise his head. The cat is bossy and usually hisses at him and he whimpers and turns away which we have always thought to be a good sign. On this occassion the door wasnt shut properly and the cat got in to the room before we could hold Walter and manage the situation & the rest happened so quickly, he was on his feet and chasing her. His instinct kicked in and that was it. The consequences could have been horrific for the cat and we feel awful. Walter is part of the family now and we need to make it work but it cant be at the cost of Tillys life so we need to get it right. The stakes feel very high at the moment. I think part of the issue is that with the warmer weather Tilly is out a lot so Walter is seeing less of her so I wonder if this is a territory thing. She was around a lot more when he first came and he seemed to accept that, but perhaps that was because he lacked confidence himself at the time. He has always hated his muzzle and if we put it on he drags his nose along the furniture & walls trying to get it off which makes it difficult as it would be a safety net if he had it on. We are going to treat it as though we are going back to day one in terms of integrating them but I wonder if we need to accept Walter isnt cat friendly and will always chase Tilly given the chance, or if with work we can get there. He has been excellent with the other training we have done. When we first had him it was impossible to eat around him or leave food unsupervised but he quickly learnt that sticking his nose in peoples food is a no-no and sits quietly whilst we eat now. His recall is still patchy at best though which was evident when he chased Tilly. I am sure that what we have done to date with Tilly and Walter reads like a catalogue of errors and we are causing tension when they meet - I must admit I always feel a degree of worry which they must sense. We are willign to put the work in and any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Maverick looks very handsome. Can you find a Goose and an Ice Man to keep him company Ruth? (Those of a certain age will know where I am coming from...!)

    I’m Homed

Bob had to go back to the specialist vet (Daniel Doherty) at Uxbridge last Monday and we thought he may have to have his toe amputated, but Daniel was not keen to do it at all so we are back to more treatment. 10 months I've had him now and I feel so sorry for him as we have been trying to get his limpery limp, hoppity hop foot sorted ever since then 🙁 Took him and his sisfur away to the seaside last week and they were sooooo good....went straight on their beds at the B&B and slept all night - I was so proud of them 🙂

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Well my precious girl has been with us for 3 years today! Happy Gotcha Day baby!! The time has just flown by and I can still remember how excited I was (and nervous at the same time!) on this day 3 years ago. You have changed our lives so much and I still look at you every morning and a tiny bit of me is still excited and can't believe you are ours! You've already been spoiled loads today as you've been 'at work' as a Pets As Therapy dog bringing big smiles to faces of the residents in the care home we visit....so there will be big cuddles tonight for our special girl xxxxxx

  • Stanley

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Just a quick update. Stanley's tail is now fine well must be he whips it around as does Gemma with hers. She is mostly putting up with him - he insists on sharing the bed and uses her bum as a pillow. She puts up with it for so long before either moving or giving him a nudge for him to move. They are still getting me into trouble, who can not look at those eyes and ignore them. More intrested in treats than playing with the bubbles I had bought for my cats. Never mind at least they are glad to see me.
