I was at the kennels with my son & little whippet a week ago today & I saw you choose Dolly. The three of you looked 'right' together & I'm really pleased all is going so well. My very best wishes to you. Helen

  • Henry

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Henry update-its not yet a week with Henry but he feels like part of the family. He started to come out of his shell more over the weekend & this mornings snow brought out the puppy in him. He even instigated a little bouncy play outside with Jasper The Whippet. He's had a nice groom & wipe over & is learning to come, wait, go in his bed & lie down. I've given up on sit-I don't think they can sit!! Last night, after a family afternoon walk, Henry slept with Jasper-both of them lying on their backs, legs in the air. So far, all the signs are very positive where intergration with the children & Jasper concerned. He's doing really well. Thank you for your good luck wishes-I promise we are looking after him well. Looking forward to the walk in Sutton Park this month too. My very best wishes to all at Daybreaks-without you there wouldn't be any happy endings. Helen & family x

  • Lola (Lass)

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Lola is just about coping with the lousy weather and only leaves her bed when it is absolutely essential! Trying to keep the dressing dry in several inches of snow in the garden is interesting. The drip bag covering her dressing is slippy - as we found out last night when she nearly had another bad leg. Today I have resorted to cling film to fully cover the vet wrap and then the drip bag, as well as telling her 'steady' as she steps out onto the path. Dressing comes off later today in any case and then we will be able to get the boot on. Wound looked very neat on Saturday so hoping all still OK when we go back today. I have the lampshade collar at the ready...jusr in case. It was Norris's and she used to hate it when he came near her with it on....so should be interesting 🙂 xxx

It always amazes me how many of our glorious dogs do cope on their own- they have always had a greyhound friend for all their life then they are retired, taken into a strange weird world but then expected to cope on their own with all this scarey world around them, and the only familiar thing - their new person, leaves them alone at times :(. Most of them do settle - some are fine straight away, some need help to be confident on their own and some always need another doggy companion- when we lost my last lurcher after 7 years with me my grey girl was 'ok' but not happy- she'd always had a doggy friend when she lived with me so I got her another lurcher pal and she was much happier and relaxed 🙂 J x

Patience and understanding is what is needed with these wonderful dogs. We've had Logan for 14 months now. He suffered severe seperation anxiety for at least the first 8 - 9 months! He still has the odd mistake now but we just need to remind ourselves of the life they lived in the racing kennels and that will never leave them overnight. But I would say that the love and affection you get from these fantastic dogs more than makes up for all their mistakes. I'm sure that if they could talk they would say "please forgive my mistakes, I am trying to adjust to my change in surroundings as best I can, but I really to appreciate you giving me a lovely retirement" Please don't give up on these wonderful dogs.

  • Zac

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

It hasn't stopped raining all day and sadly it's definately curtailed Zac's social life! We had a nice walk this morning, he walks beautifully on the lead and was great alongside the busy main road. He had a good sniff round the bunny field but we didn't encounter any other living thing (not really suprised in this weather!!) He stood patiently and quietly to have paws, head etc dried on our return and then happily took himself to his basket. He was clean overnight, has learnt to climb the stairs and enjoys little treats, which he takes from you gently. Not phased by household noises, he's not overly demonstrative but does like a fuss and being told he's a good boy. He likes his food, and will always have a look and a sniff at what you've got, but does respond to being told 'no'. He's actually started to wag his tail and almost played with a toy this afternoon! So far so good for this beauty. x
