Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
EXCITING NEWS! Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is one of the biggest charities in the country. As well as the great work they do at their 3 homing centres, they also support smaller rescues and animal welfare charities around the country with their Animal Partnerships programme. This programme offers both virtual and practical help and support in the form of online courses and seminars, telephone access to advice from Battersea’s team of behaviourists and Vets, and practical help in the form of deliveries of food, bedding and other necessities should rescues and charities experience difficulties in obtaining supplies themselves. There is also the opportunity to promote dogs that have been at the rescue for a long time, or have specific homing challenges, to a wider audience in the hope of finding the perfect home. The Trustees are delighted to announce that following a visit to the kennels by ladies from the Partnerships team last November, who were very impressed with the kennels and the work being done there, Daybreaks Trust is now an official member of the scheme. We look forward to working together for the benefit of the amazing Greyhounds that come into our care. Angie x

Spirit
I’m Homed
I took Spirit to Elmdon Park today and soon realised why Kate loves this lad so much. He was a pleasure to walk with. Gentle on the lead and no problems with meeting other breeds or people. Sadly the dog in the home he initially went to was too wary of a new arrival so a permanent homing wasn't practical. I'm sure this wasn't anything to do with Spirits character and this very gentle and for a boy quite dainty dog is more than ready for his permanent home

Penny (Emer)
I’m Homed
Little late on this comment. We took Penny on her first long (ish) distance trip in the car yesterday. We decided to have a day trip to the beach in Weston-Super-Mare. Weather was typical British... windy, windy and cloudy! Penny was really good in the car, we were nervous (for her) more than she was. She travelled really well. Stopped a couple of times to stretch her legs. We got there and she was straight out of the car like the starting line of a race! When she got on the beach... that was another story! She was flying around loving every single minute of it. She had her jumper on, harness, lead and was not bothered about the wind at all. Us on the other hand were wrapped up loads!! We had a good walk round for a while, even remanised in a spot where we had lunch with Cash which brought back memories that we cherish! Miss her everyday. Whilst walking round she had a Daybreaks bib on and we had people coming up to us asking about her, the breed and the charity. We even met someone with 2 greyhounds and she said she had her first greyhound from Daybreaks back in 2007... from Ruth of all people!! We had a good chat about how grey DB are too of course!! The journey back was no different to the journey there. All perfectly fine. Got home and she had dinner and was flat out for the count! Can't wait for more adventures with that girl...

Winnie
I’m Homed
I took Winnie to Elmdon Park on Friday. She was very excited to be going out and we set off at quite a pace. Once in the park, she didn't really know which way to look first. It was all very new to her and other dogs were quite interesting to her. She is still a baby and has plenty of time to get used to everything that life has to offer post racing. She has a lovely soft coat and I think she may have springs in her legs!! Here's hoping she isn't waiting long for her forever home xx

Josh
Over the Rainbow Bridge
I am absolutely heartbroken to read of Joshy's passing just after he became so settled. I asked Santa to help him find Joshy a permanent home. And Joshy's wish came true. I remember the call from Hannah months ago saying she wanted to foster him again and she was there in half an hour. He was so loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Hannah, thank you for all you did for him and all the love you and your family gave. x

Spirit
I’m Homed
My cuddle goes to Spirit tonight. I adore him! He is such a good boy, he will walk by your side from his kennel to the one of the kennel runs and will do the same to go back. He doesn't need a lead and he doesn't need you to hold his collar. He is still a little unsure of people but is getting used to taking treats from you. Xxx He has a lovely face and now his hair has grown back across his nose, he is a very lad handsome indeed! Xxx

Gino
I’m Available
Gino after almost a month at Daybreaks today paid his first visit to Elmdon Park. What a perfectly behaved lad he proved to be. He walks sensibly on the lead, was friendly with everyone he met and had no problems whatsoever meeting with other breeds of all shapes and sizes. A fabulous lad who I am sure will be a tremendous addition to any home.

Unbelievably sad to find out beautiful Josh has passed. My heart goes out to Hannah and her family. Josh did find his forever home and everyone knew he couldn't have found anyone that could have loved him more. Rip Joshy. Xxx

Josh
Over the Rainbow Bridge
When God looked around his garden he found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your very handsome but oh so tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful as he always helps the best. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were so hard to climb so he closed your weary eyelids and whispered to you "peace be thine". I was gutted to learn from Kate that you had left us. Dearest Joshy, always one of my soft spot boys. It was an absolute pleasure to be your friend and Fergal and I very much enjoyed having you as a houseguest before Christmas. The times we spent together were very enjoyable and you were always so perfectly behaved. No signs whatsoever of anything untoward. You and Fergal were so respectful of each other and watching you both play so gently together as elderly gents do was such a joy. You were a cheeky boy making yourself at home on our sofa and enjoying investigating upstairs. You had perfect manners, were a cuddle munchkin and you deserved better than the life that you had but we are comforted that you truly loved your home with Hannah and the bond you shared was joyous and so there was no better place to go to sleep than with Hannah and her family. Fergal and I know only too well how upset Hannah is and will be for a long while but we pray that you find your way through the fields above to those who can help you adjust to your new surroundings whilst you wait for loved ones to join you. Rest in peace beautiful boy. Seana and Fergal. xxx

I'm so very sad to hear about Josh. We knew him well from his time at the kennels and were so happy when he finally found his lovely forever home. Run fast and free Josh, surrounded by love. Hugs for your family at this heartbreaking time. Xx
