Minnie
I’m Homed
I got back with the lovely Minnie about an hour ago. She's quite stressed but is settling down now. She certainly is very food obsessed. Within 5 seconds of being in the kitchen she has mostly cleaned a plate of grated cheese. Looks like we'll have to implement a 'no food whatsoever on the tops' policy again! The most exciting bit for her though was when I got my lunch - I think she wanted it far more than I did. I sat down on the sofa and, after many "no"s, Minnie had also (mostly) got the message that the food was mine. She then plonked down on her bum and sat watching me. It was just the cutest thing. I took her out into the garden with the chickens and she was interested, but not interested in chasing them. That may change as she gets more settled in so I'll see how she goes. After putting the chickens away I let her wander around the garden under my supervision, she had great fun dashing up and down for a couple of lengths of the lawn. Minnie also gets on well with our two Retrievers.

I do get annoyed when some owners of small dogs make the assumption that because my dog is bigger than theirs it means she going to hurt their dog. I got told last night on a walk with Bess, by a small dog owner "Keep your dog away from mine please". Don't they know that small dogs can be aggressive aswell and their bite would hurt just as much as a bite from a bigger dog. For the record Bess has shown no aggression to any dog be it large or small, or any person, in the 5 and a half months we have had her.

We are desperate for a foster home for Minnie - she has been used to a home before but unfortunately came back due to a marriage break up. She has been here for so long, she really deserves to sample home life again. She is good with other breeds and other than being energetic on the lead, she is a very good girl and clean in her kennel.

Her stats say she finished racing in 2008--what has she been doing since then? I hope not just waiting in kennels for 4 years...

Freda's had another busy day out visiting and getting to know the outside world. Her cheeky personality is beginning to show itself a little now - she goes into the kitchen, picks up my boot, brings it and drops it back on her bed - then goes back for the other one!! She makes no attempt to chew them, just likes them on her bed for some reason!! Still very food orientated, but getting much better. She does need you to be firm with her, but she does respond well which is lovely to see.
