Juanita was brought to us as a stray a few weeks ago. She is a Spanish greyhound (Galgo) who had been brought over by another rescue to a home but sadly it had not worked out. The fabulous Ray and Val have been kindly fostering her until she found a home. Thank you Ray and Val for caring for her - I know you are so sad at letting her go but you have helped her to find her forever home 🙂

Hi Mand, firstly greyhounds and caravanning really do work together, and its great to be able to share all your holiday experiences together, and with a bit of planning and a few accessories makes it easy. We have been amazed how flexible they are when locations and routines change.I would say the choice of awning is probably the most important to consider,as no matter what size van you get, you'll be stepping over them.I would go for either a part or full awning. With these awnings you can usually add an annexe which we have found is brilliant for our two,as their raised beds fit nicely side by side inside, without taking up any awning space.Buy the best quality you can afford as it will save you money in the long run.We have an isabella magnum, which is a part awning, with a ventura annex, and have found it perfect. With part awnings if you change your van,you dont have to change your awning as it will still fit, saving you more expense. If you can get a van with an external electric socket on the awning side so you can plug in a fan heater to keep them warm if it goes cold. Ours either stop in the awning or outside on screw in pegs during the daytime, but don't have long cables on them just in case they see something they fancy! although they seem much more layed back on a camp site. We even had a caravan with 2 cats next door to us last year! and amazingly they were still alive at the end of two weeks. Other equipment we find very useful,is a beach shelter which we put a quilt inside, for when it is hot,you can use it onsite and beach. Also we have some coats made of white towelling that you soak in water, wring out and put them on damp these rapidly cool down the dogs,as recommended by Linda! At night we bring the 2 large cushions from their beds inside the van and they sleep on the floor quite happily,we dont allow them on the seats or beds! So I wouldnt worry too much about a layout to suit the dogs, although some of the ones with fold up bottom bunks could provide a useful space,if you did not want them down the centre of the van.The hardest part is trying to stop them sneaking into bed,Blue is often missing in the morning and is curled up at the bottom of Bryonys bunk bed! Everybody onsite seems to love Greyhounds and after Blue decided to have a run instead of getting in the car one morning, people actually asked us to let them run every morning around the caravan field,as they loved watching them run!Windbreaks are useful on the beach and stops other dogs walking up to them,Blue has been known to wear pink sunglasses! Obviously take their normal coats, bowls & stands. As Linda said we have just come back from a site, which was in the new forest called Sandy Balls [honestly] which I would highly recommend.Very dog friendly, nice walks, an enclosed dog exercise field which was nice and private and perfect for Blue and Ben.Also there was a pub close that served great food and welcomed the dogs in.Caravanning to us is the easy way to take your dogs on holiday as you can tailor it to your own needs, and not have to worry about unknown problems when you rent somewhere,or the expense of kennels,[thats if you could bear to leave them],but I am biased after 21 years of touring! Sandy Balls [honest] hosted the greener living show while we were there and Blue&Ben became one of the most popular attractions there, they had their pictures taken by Spire FM and are on their website,I suppose what I am trying to say is we love caravanning with our dogs, and it promotes greyhounds well. Anything we can help you with dont hesitate to contact us 01217455411 Dave,Maria,Blue&Ben x.
