    I’m Homed

Last night I had nipped to the loo and whilst there I heard a bit of a snap and came out to a shocked son. When I'd asked what had happened Lewis said Pad had been awake in bed and he'd gone to stroke him. Pad had snapped at him. Since this was so out of character I said he must have been asleep. 'but his eyes were open' Lew said. Today I went onto the internet and researched Greyhound sleep habits. I quote ' Greyhounds can sleep with their eyes open, thereby making it almost impossible to tell if they are visually aware of your approach'. This explains totally what happened. No one was hurt and Paddy remains the best dog who Lewis loves dearly however I totally agree with Katy-KCIS in that over a period of weeks you get sooo relaxed around these gentle and loving dogs that you sometimes bend/break the rules you were told at the beginning as you don't believe they apply to your dog. We had stroked Pad whilst he was in bed after the first few weeks when we really shouldn't have but we thought it would be ok. Despite Paddy being gorgeous we will re-adopt our initial rules of not touching him whilst he is in bed whether or not we think he is asleep as those are the rules that greyhounds live by and are used to. It has given both Lew and I a wake up call and prevented us from being too complacent so maybe that's a good thing, it may also explain what happened perhaps with Katy-KCIS's little girl? Thought I'd post this just to remind everyone that however lovely our dogs are we still need to respect their basic rules. x

Wishing Lizzie a speedy recovery. What lovely photos. Also wishing hounds and helpers all the best in this cold snowy weather. Let's hope the better weather is not far away.

Jester is still at our house and is putting on weight really well now. He is clean in the house and can be left (I left him at home on Wednesday) and he spent most of his day on his bed or looking out the window (we can watch him on the cameras!) so I know he is ok. He is desperate to find a home with the company of other dogs and he will make a wonderful companion as he loves his fuss.

Massive thanks to Ray and Val for looking after Hope after her spey yesterday. I gather she was quite sick last night but seems ok this morning. These little girls have been through a lot in the last few days. I answered an appeal to take some girls and as our waiting list is so low I agreed to take two. Hope and Lizzie arrived in an awful state. Luckily we have the fabulous bathing unit and set to work on them straight away. They will soon be on the road to recovery xxxx

Poor Lizzie has been extremely poorly all through the night following her spey and I am still nursing her at home as she is too ill to go back to the kennels - she is constantly being sick but is too weak to stand up or move - I will be phoning the vets as soon as they open...... Thank you Ray for opening up the kennels xxxxx

Thanks Kate - it was an incredibly hard decision to make, but he wasn't in a good way. Our veterans mac and twiggy are still going - so we are hoping a kitten will fit in. Hope you and twiggy are doing well. Love to Pam. Jen
