I totally agree with Kallie and Ruth. I have two girls and a boy. The boy is so much easier. He is huge 38kgs, but such a gentleman. We laff at him, he is only 3, and he acts like a pipe and slipper man. Please look at the boys, they are to so laid back, and will reward you with so much love.xxxxx

just to add to Ruth's comment about the boys waiting so much longer to be chosen, i am owned by three beautiful greyhound boys who are the most loving and gentle companions, by choice i would always have a dog as i find them very placid and easy to live with, the only difference being that they are bigger and stronger than their female counterparts....so if any of you out there are looking for a companion then have a look at some of the beautiful boys at the kennels, you will not regret giving one of them a home...xxx

The other problem is that children sound very different to adults and they move more quickly so if a dog hasn't been used to children they can be scarey 🙁 With time and patience and respect for the dog that usually changes and kids and dogs get along fine 🙂 Have a look on the Kennel Club website for their 'safe and sound' which is an interactive game to show kids and adults how to interact with dogs safely and full of great advice. I love 'growling' it warns me that the dog isn't ok with what's going on and I need to do something before the dog needs to 'shout'. J x

Alfie is doing really well. He is clean in the night and following ours around and gaining confidence. He loves the window seat and getting used to lots of cuddles, different sounds, movements and his new routine. I really hope someone can come forward soon to offer him a home.

Hi Mutty22jaf! When a dog retires, their name goes on a waiting list (a bit like the NHS!) and they stay with the trainer until their name comes to the top of this list. This mainly applies to the boys as we have over 40 on the waiting list. As we home a grey, we take a next one of the list. There is virtually no waiting list for the girls as they home so much quicker so they pretty much come in as soon as they are neutered, and today I am off to pick up two girls direct from the vets..... so if anyone is looking - think of our handsome boys please! x

Hi Wispa'sMum, Just curious but, if the dogs have to wait on an 8 month list to come into daybreaks, where do they live in the meantime, is it with the trainer? Hope you dont think i'm being rude, but i have a greyhound as a pet from Monmore, (hope you dont mind me using your site) she had came in on the day that i went up there so i was very lucky, as i was looking for a cat friendly dog. and i just had to have her (you know what its like lol) she had lived with cats, and she is certainly cat/furries friendly, but was not house trained 🙂 She raced until she was 4, i got her when she was almost 5. So do you think she had been on a waiting list all that time, nobody has ever explained this to me, but it all seems to make sense now. Her racing name was Grange Sunshine and she had raced at Hall Green and Perrybar, and yet as i said I had her from Monmore Cannock. Just asking as you may be able to shed some light, sorry for asking but you are never to old to learn!

Being really good, if anything she is getting quite cheeky xxxx She is one of the pack, and I get her and Sam confused at times xxxx Hoping to be at the sutton park walk, I'm not sure whether it may be too much for her with large amounts of people, but we will judge it nearer the time xxxx

When we first rehomed our hound, she was not sure about the children and we had a few instances of growling at them when they gave her too much attention. Such a shame as all they wanted to do was love her! We were advised to make sure that she understood that she was below them in the pack hierarchy, so we have encouraged them to feed her. This has worked well and we don't have problems, but I don't think she'll ever be a cuddle monster, it's just not in her nature.

Hope your baby feels better soon poor thing. Looking forward to meeting her at training class sometime in the future. She is such a pretty girl it's not hard to see how you fell for her. Macca is doing fine after his dental work - Andre has looked after him wonderfully. That should be all the dental work completed (to Macca's great relief). He's been a bit subdued for the last couple of days, but now getting back to normal. He's turning out to be a bit of a water freak - loves wading into the pools in the park - this morning he tried sniffing a leaf under water - probably won't do that again! His coat is now hanging up to dry!
