Jack
Over the Rainbow Bridge
'Doggy Daycare' continues. Last week when jack was at our house his and Little Millys nick names were 'George and Mildred' cos she didnt stop bothering him and 'nagging' to play! However this week, when Milly is at his house, they play a bit then sit on the sofa together, being comical, reminding me of 'The two Ronnies'!! Unsure who they will impersonate next - hope its not the Kray Twins!

Have you thought of recording Jack when you go out? If he is restricted to a certain room when you go out, perhaps this would be possible as separation anxiety is always worse when you first go out. We used an mp3 player(or perhaps your phone would do it) when we went out to record our current dogs as we'd had problems with a previous greyhound with separation anxiety;fortunately our current two don't suffer. Then you can look forward to listening to an hour or so of hopefully silence when you return! (It goes get a bit boring, but you can play it back when you're doing something else at the same time to take your mind off it!) This helped us as we knew how bad the problem was & as we monitored the situation weekly over several months, we knew when the problem was getting better. Obviously leave any phone etc. out of reach so it can't be chewed like the kong! We tried ticking clocks, leaving clothes about (again out of reach), leaving a radio on & DAPs. The DAPs tho' expensive were the best for us; we could even tell by the recordings when the DAP needed replacing. Best of luck, he'll imrpove with time. See you at training sometime soon, Val,Mark,Rosie &Jet

Oh, I get you now, doh! My hounds are my babies too so I know where you are coming from ;0) Well, we had Kevin first followed in quick succession by youngster Sadie. We asked for a lively girl to bring Kev out of his shell and Daybreaks certainly delivered! Then Moo came along unexpectedly (!) and I can say with all honestly that they are a perfect gang and we have never had such much as a squeak or squabble with any of them. I was terrified I might upset our perfect pack by adding a third but I have to say it's been great, as Sarah says they are all so different and amazing in their own way. Many Daybreakers have got all boys, all girls or a combination of both and they all generally seem to work well. I was naughty and Moo came to live with us without anybody (hubby, kids, dogs) even meeting her (there were mitigating circumstances) but any sensible person would take the existing dogs to Daybreaks and and get them to choose their friend. Good luck! Em x

Hi Jo, when you took on your second, that seems to demonstrate how they both adapted and fitted in together and despite the sex of the next one I am sure they will adapt again. As for three . . . we had our first - Toby, then little Jo and they were golden together, our family was complete x x Toby accepted her and she lets him think he is the boss lol - our third is Will (I Am) who we fostered but couldn't bear to give back in the end. They have had the occasional grumble but they sorted out their order as I am sure a third in your pack would (whether male or female) our three make us smile and laugh out loud every day as they are so different and each so amazing x If I can help with any specific questions, or anything - please don't hesitate 2 ask x x x Sairs x

Hi Emma, I realised after I posted my message yesterday that it may have read like I have children, but both the boy and girl I mentioned are actually greyhounds (so they are my babies really :o) ). He has been with me for 5 yrs, and 2 yrs for her and they really get on great. I'm curious to know how taking on a third changes the dynamic of the existing two and which would be the better sex to fit in to our pack without threatening the status of the other two? Many thanks. Jo x
