Wowee! Great news guys. I was chatting to you on Saturday when you came in to see Craig and was so pleased that you were giving him a chance. I hope your family now feels complete and all three greys continue to bring you such happiness.

I have just phoned Zoe to confirm that we would love to keep Craig permanently. Thanks Winniethepooh, I know we can help him and that it will take time, but it is reassuring to know that they can overcome their problems with other breeds. Thanks to everyone for their good wishes for Craig.

Hi Mick (and thank you Debs 🙂 ) You'd be very welcome to come training - Sally runs the classes in the north of Bham and I do the southern Saturday one 🙂 and I find that if you are working/training your dog the bond between you developes more quickly:) plus our dogs are facing a whole new world so often need some help to understand what they can and can't do now 🙂 We give free training vouchers so at least people get an idea of how greys think and how you train them - they really are very different to other breeds of dogs so its well worth people coming to class with their dogs 🙂 best if they can do a four week block to start with then carry on coming but if they can only drop in when they can thats better than nothing 🙂 We try to give all our owners as much support as possible so your home checker, Ruth, Sally and me are always very happy to talk to you about anything your grey's up to and we'll always do our best to give you as much help as you need to make you and your dog a greyt partnership 🙂 Good luck with Sprout/Mars .. hope to see you at one of the training classes. Best wishes Julie

I like what you said Julie, and think you are right. I think people just have it in their head that grey's are so relaxed and so chilled out, which they are once they settle and begin to trust you. We were very lucky with Rolo as he settled straight away (the hippy inside him took over lol), but Chillie being so young took a little longer, and she still hasn't learnt everything (she would rather do as she pleases lol). I think anyone who adopts a greyhound should think themselves very lucky that there life is going to be touched by such an amazing animal. Some situations can be out of people's control but sometimes people just need to wake up and not toy with these wonderful grey's lives! I can't wait to take my two to the training classes on Saturday. Becky you are such a lovely gorgeous girl and I wish I had one more sofa that I could put you on... I could always ask Rich to move out 🙂 xxx

    I’m Homed

Hi Kelly's doing really well, we had a lovely session with her yesterday ... her main fear seems to be when you take the velcro strap off and she has reacted very badly but watching her when you take it off it seems to me more that she's very frightened than aggressive so the reactivity is possibly linked to her recent spey op as the op site is where the velcro strap goes and if you pull the strap up to release it it will touch her tum - and we all know how sensitive our greys are 🙂 Kelly was wearing a magnetic coat yesterday as it has a big velcro strap under the tum but thats a bit more forward than a normal coat strap ... with TTouch we use food- not as a bribe but if you or the dog is tense you/they usually hold their breath but you can't eat and hold your breath so if you feed the dog nice treats you encourage them to be less tense and its a nice reward too. First we undid the small front strap just little by little and giving Kelly a liver treat every time the velcro moved, there was no reaction so I undid the tummy strap again very slowly, remembering to check I was breathing and whilst Ruth giving her sweeties 🙂 She moved round at one point to see what I was doing and the strap just touched her tum and she screamed and jumped away but bless her then came back to us albeit almost on her tum very submissively 🙁 We did some more with the coat, straps and liver sweeties and she didn't even squeak, we put the coat on and off a few times just to make sure she was ok with what we're doing and she was great, then I showed Ruth and Sarah a TTouch exercise which is gently using a wrap under her tum to just give her the feeling of something around her tum lifting but its totally different to a coat strap so that'll encourage kelly to think about it rather than just panic and react ... she just stood there whilst me, Ruth and Sarah worked with her .. one fed her treats ocasionally and she was sssoooo relaxed 🙂 We were really pleased with how she responded ...a lovely little girl, Sarah and Ruth will be doing this with her every day so we can help her overcome her fears 🙂 Jools x

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Tried some new soft shoes on Maisie's back feet tonight. Surprisingly she didn't walk as well as in the heavier, more solid soled shoe, tripping a few times. We will persevere though and see how we get on once she gets a bit more used to them. It doesn't help that it's snowy I suppose, but at least her feet were warm and dry!

Mars BAR IS LUCKY that you so wish to have him with you.You would both be welcome at training classes which are great fun and really help you develop a partnership with your dog.I have a rescue lurcher that looks like a baby grey and I have to say as a new dog owner the classes Julie run have really helped me to understand and look after Millie. my dog is still weary around some people and other dogs but totally loves going to training classes!
