We carried on with the major clean & tidy of the empty kennels first thing. The lovely sunshine gave us the opportunity to empty everything outside and get up on steps to reach those pesky cobwebs and really give everywhere a thorough spring clean - something you just can't do with doggies in residence. We did have 2 new arrivals late morning - the boys had booked their rooms at Daybreaks before we heard about lockdown. They are both beautiful. Scooby is a very bouncy, friendly soul who will shower you with kisses, and who loved being out on his afternoon walk - striding out with ears up, everything of interest, keen to be on the move but not too strong. George in contrast is much quieter, a little more wary and very handsome. Here's hoping that they will soon find themselves in a lovely foster home. As lockdown number 2 gets under way we are still offering the use of the sand run and food sales - but please remember it is essential to phone and book an appointment before visiting the kennels. Let's all do our bit to stay safe and well and get this horrid virus under control. It is a definite red wine kind of evening - raising my glass to all our boys & girls currently out in foster homes, hope they are behaving themselves and enjoying a little taste of home. Cheers one and all! Angie xx

We had one Greyhound at the kennels today...Skip 🙂 He enjoyed wandering around and was first and last in the treat queue! 🙂 A day of cleaning and tidying. Thanks so much to Yvonne for cleaning all the kennels in the top block and to Shirley for keeping the bedding store under control and to Richard and Declan for going on a trip to the tip! 🙂 A rough night for lots of our pets tonight...Bonfire season is not a happy time for my Lyra and Fletcher. Skip doesn't care! I received a call from John this afternoon to say Fletch was in the bath! 🙁 When I got home he was in the wardrobe in the spare room along with a terrified Lyra. They are both still in there listening to "Sounds for Pets" on Clsssic FM. 🙂 Such a shame for all animals who find this time of the year very stressful. Xxx At present we are keeping the sand run open as it is very easy to "avoid" contact with anyone else! Please call the kennels on 0121 782 7702 and we can book your time in the diary. If we are not going to be there we would be very grateful if you can pay for the run in advance either over the telephone or we can send a link to your mobile. We will also be able to supply food, carry out nail clipping and Ruth will hopefully be able to help with corns. 🙂 We feel these to be essential to our dogs health and wellbeing. It will be strictly by appointment only so we can make sure everyone can stay safe. Xx We do have two new arrivals tomorrow and another one on Saturday. They were scheduled to come in this week before the lockdown was announced. Looking forward to meeting them. Xxx

Over the Rainbow Bridge
It might be a bit late but we are thinking of everyone with scared hounds tonight. We know how bad it is as we experienced it when we had Barney he was shaking the whole time and was absolutely terrified. We feel very fortunate that Russ is the total opposite and not fazed at all. Xx

Ronnie has settled in so well. Very inquisitive dog and fun loving. He is obsessed with toys, he loves rolling around with teddies and squeaking balls. He’s got on so well with out female grey, even came over and leaned against her when she was shaking cause of the fireworks. He’s a big boy with lots of love to give ??

It was soooooo cold today and strange with no dogs in kennels apart from Penny who was waiting to go to her foster home this afternoon. Although quiet with no other dogs Ruth rallied the troops (namely Denise, Dave, Richard and Ian) to collect items for Tiggys fundraiser. There were visitors to use the sand run, collect food and for nail cutting. Momma, Tig and Penny had a morning walk courtesy of our Wednesday walkers. Although we now have no dogs on site we still have the resident catscand chickens. I think the cats were expecting a peaceful day, not so, as my Arry decided he wanted to bark at them for most of the morning. Arry loves cats, unfortunately not in a good way!! Ruth's chickens seem to like their new surroundings, they too attracted the attention of Arry and Maisie Moo who after some initial interested were quite good around them. Well, with the second lockdown upon us please stay safe and well. X

Our last two residents left the kennels today. Prince went off to his foster home and Ruth has Penny at home tonight until she too goes to her foster home tomorrow. It was very sad to once again have to lock up without any Greyhounds to say Goodnight to...fingers crossed it won't be long before we can reopen again. Xxx Despite only having Penny and Prince at the kennels today there was still lots to do, including relocating Ruth's chickens to a home closer to the kennels rather than at the end of the sand run. Richard and Declan did most of the work while Shirley and I supervised! The chucks were great and took it all in their stride. 🙂 They very obligingly went into a small dog crate so we could transport them to their new home....we did get stuck for a while when we forgot someone with four dogs had booked the sand run! We didn't think it would be a good idea to stroll down with a crate of chickens :)) Xxx Sending lots of love to all the girls and boys who have very kindly been fostered. Do hope they enjoy the experience and maybe one or two will find their forever homes! :))) Xxx Hoping everyone stays safe and well. Xxx

Over the Rainbow Bridge
Seana, I'm so very, very sad to hear Mel has gone to Rainbow Bridge. He was such a special lad and a perfect genetleman. A kind and gentle soul who was at Daybreaks for quite a while before you found each other. During his time at the kennels he looked after several nervous new arrivals who found moving home a stressful experience; he had such a calming influence on them. Xxx Thinking of you, Fergal and Teddy and sending lots of love. There is a beautiful new Angel in heaven today. Kate, Skip, Fletcher and Lyra. Xxx

So very sorry for your loss, he was indeed a gentle soul. I really don't know what else to say at the moment that I haven't said to you already. Mel beautiful boy, run fast, run free at the bridge, shine down bright tonight. Another special angel gained his wings today. Much love to your mom, Teddy and your actual son Fergal. Xxxx
