Oh girls, how exciting to have a new "dog" in the family! :)) Sure you two could come up with a suitable name for him or her!! Good luck with the decorating! :))) Xxx

Well the new Dog came today in a box ??? , I've not met him yet , and Dad was a bit distracted for a while in the kitchen so because he had left the door open on the cupboard where he keeps his paint and tools and stuff and knowing that upstairs needs redecorating too, Jess and I thought we would help him out by carrying tins of paint and screwdrivers and the tape measure , Oh and some wood filler as well , upstairs and placing it gently on the landing whilst he was setting up his new dogs home , we just thought it would make him happy that we were helping out.. Well Dad wasn't happy , all he could say was that we were all lucky the lid didn't come off the paint , bet if the new dog did it he wouldn't mind , but, No, I'm not jealous , anyway Dad just set him up and left him alone so he's back with us now which is good and he says he's not sure if the new dog is a male or female which is also a bit weird, but he thinks he might be a bloke so for now he is naming the new dog "Tortoise" , which seems a strange name for a dog to me but then I'm not as clever as Dad ( I'm much Cleverer ha ha) Love you all loads Celia , Jess and errrm Tortoise xx

Two words to sum up today, very quiet! The peace was occasionally shattered by my Arry leading a Mexican howl with My Sarah Scare Bear and Maisie Moo. Thanks to Denise for coming in and bringing the resident chickens roast squash and sweet potato with pumpkin seeds, totally spoiled! Dave got stuck in as usual and blitzed the treatment room, it looks so much better. We have had a delivery of blizzard coats which Denise and I sorted this morning and as it was quiet I managed to update some of the databases that I don't always manage to do. So still a productive day. Hoping everyone is staying safe and well, should you need anything from the Kennels please remember we are operating an appointment only system so give the Kennels a call for an appointment. Food collections and sand run are still available. Take care. X

What a lovely and poignant post about your girl Bess. Your memories of her will stay with you for ever and while the first birthday without her is bound to hurt, it’s abundantly clear how much those memories are treasured. Thinking of you x

If there is a Greyhound you are interested in please give us a call on 0121 782 7702 Thanks so much. Xxx

Erik brought Prince into see us today. He is looking good and is enjoying being in his foster home. Not sure Erik's own Greyhound Charlotte is so keen, she is a very elegant lady and Prince is somewhat of a clumsy youth! :)) Xxx

Happy heavenly birthday to my beautiful Bess who would have been 11 today. My first one without you. What I would give to be able to cuddle you and kiss your lovely face and chat to you again. We had 8 years together and I would do it all again knowing of the heartbreak at the end because the sadness never outweighs the happiness that you gave to me. Love you forever mush, Mum and Reene xxxx

There was just Sue and I in this morning, along with our own dogs, Sue's Tom and my Skip and Lyra. it was strange having more pet dogs at the kennels than Trust residents. 🙂 George was pleased to see us and after breakfast we all went out for a walk. George took a liking to Tom and enjoyed walking with him. When we came back we let them all wander around together. George found himself a bed in the office and had a good snooze. :)) This afternoon he had a second visit from the family he met yesterday and they decided to offer him his forever home! :)) He has gone out on trial with them, he has a very pretty Greyhound sister. 🙂 xx Do hope all goes well. Xxx We are hoping to be able to take more dogs in soon. Thank you again to everyone who has fostered one of our lovely boys and girls. So kind of you. Xxx

Prince
I’m Homed
I thought I’ll give a report on Prince. When you meet him, he is always pleased to see you and wants to go out of his kennel. No different when we came with Charlotte to see if they get on. Prince, as he is a young lad, can be a bit to enthusiastic and Charlotte let it be know she does not appreciate that. Otherwise they got on fine. On the way home he was busy with a toy as he is not keen on driving. By the time we got home he had destroyed it. I do the normal intro routine with him. That is to say, first to the garden (not through the house). Then when he has sniffed and done a wee, I took him to the front door and invited him in. Let him explore the downstairs. Being a curious 2 year old his nose and mouth was very busy for the next two days exploring his new environment. It is taking him time to settle in, he first was a bit confused about our 4 year old, specially when she made high pitch noises, as he would run up to her and smell her enthusiastically. I observe him closely when he is with my daughter and do not allow the two to be in one room without supervision. He is getting better as time passes. This is also because we explained to our daughter why Prince reacts and to keep it down. So both are learning which is great. At first he did not respond to his name at all, this is slowly changing, hence control is a challenge. He has now been castrated, all has gone well and he is recovering fine. But he is still weeing everywhere to the dismay of my long suffering wife. The hormonal drive does not stop straight away after the castration and can take some time fade away. Prince is definitely a toy boy. He really loves to play with squeaky and fluffy toys including my home-made scent toys. He has destroyed quite a number of both Charlottes and our daughters toys. To be fair to Prince our home is a target rich environment with a 4 year old toys lying around everywhere. It is a great opportunity for him to experience all he can. Before his operation we played with a flirt pole which he really likes. We have to keep things calm for now until he is fully recovered which he probably does not like as he wants to be entertained. He also quickly discovered the kitchen and that there is food there. He is very easy to walk does not pull as a rule. He gets excited when he sees little dogs. I observed that, when they are near by he does not react he is interested but just watches. When they move away or he can see them in the distance, he will do his high pitch barking. He has a calm and kind temperament but very curious and seems to lack some spatial awareness, which means he can bump into things, knock items over or bump into your legs whilst walking. In short he is a kind, clumsy, young boy who loves to play with anything fluffy and behaves like a toddler. He can be a hand full but also just good fun. Who ever takes him will need, patience a sense of humour and willing to engage with him.
