I am heartbroken to say that Derry gained his angel wings - after a lay in the garden in the sun and his dinner, he curled up last night to sleep tight. I will miss this fella so much - I am good friends of his owners and I have looked after him many many times so he will be very much missed. He was a fabulous boy I will never forget x

Bessie is a very sweet young lady. She had a lovely walk down the lane with Dora and Gold and didn't pull, not even when she saw another dog ahead. She wasn't best pleased when I was humming Classic FM music to Raven (I don't blame her!) I hope she gets her forever home very soon. x

It was very sad for the family today who had to bring Willow/Raven back. You could see they were heartbroken but it was just too much for her to manage the stairs in their particular house. She may also benefit from a doggy companion. It was hot and humid today and she was a bit hot when she came back so I sat on the cool floor of her kennel where she lay down. I gave her a bit of a massage and an ear rub and hummed the classic FM music to her. She seemed to like this (although Bessie vocally complained haha!) I'm sure the perfect home is there for her and that it won't be long. She's such a darling and is related to my Sam and Nadie (via Crash). x

Gold is such a lovely boy. He walked well and was very good when Simon and I did his health check. It was lovely to meet his new family. He's going to be very spoilt and I don't think it will be long before he's eating well (he liked the frankfurter sausages we brought in for all the residents as a treat for their tea). As Spandau Ballet were my favourite group when I was a teenager, I spent a lot of the day singing "Gold" and had others joining in! x

Dora really is adorable. She walked beautifully on the lead. She saw another dog in the distance on the walk down the lane and was interested but didn't lunge. She walked back to the kennel really well but stopped just before going back in. She went in with the lure of treats. When she was brought out of the kennel to meet visitors she froze but responded to some massage techniques and got moving again. It was lovely to see her have a run in the small part of the sand run with her new sister then to see her go off to her new home. Good luck Dora the Explorer. I look forward to hearing how you're getting on. x

Daybreaks Diary!

Firstly, thanks for everyone's help today. A day of mixed emotions really. Dippy Dora went home after meeting her new sister, wishing her well. Another lovely lady came to see the kennels and dogs (or rather dog)! She is going to wait for the right dog to come along and she has done so much research on owning a greyhound! Sadly Willow (Raven) was returned today. She was struggling with the stairs, she was ok going up but struggling to come back down even with help. She had a bit of a tumble and the family decided that they could not bear the thought of her being badly injured. She did jump the stairgate at the kennels office so a stairgate was not really an option for them. The family were absolutely distraught, but quite rightly decided that they needed to put the welfare of Raven first. She had been perfect in every other respect. Gold met his soon to be sister, they got on really well. His mom went home with some supplies from our shop ready for when he goes home! Hope Kate is enjoying her well deserved break :))

So very sad for Raven. 🙁 So sorry for her family it didn't work out. She is a special little girl who has found being at Daybreaks and away from her previous kennels quite unsettling. She is sweet and lovely and I am sure will find her perfect home...maybe there is someone who has another dog who would be happy to help her with her anxieties and fears and show her how this reitement thing works! Sending her Lots of love. Xxx

Very sadly Willow (Raven) has been returned, the family are distraught at making this decision, but think it is in her best interests. She was not able to cope with the stairs, she was ok going up but not coming down and the worry was she would injure herself. She had been perfect in the house and was great with the children.
