Jack
I’m Homed
Today Jack had a more relaxing day. After all the adventures we had it seemed like a good idea to just spend some time at home. The morning started well, Jack is now able to go up and down the stairs by himself. We went out straight away for him to relief himself. I made sure he had not one wee but two. Then we continued with our morning routine to get our daughter ready for her last day at Nursery. She wanted us all to walk to nursery. If fact she wanted to walk with Jack, which we allowed. I allow this because either my wife or I are close with her so we can intervene if needed. Additionally, we had Charlotte before our daughter was born so she is used to dogs. Most importantly, we guide our daughter constantly on how she must behave with dogs. Never allow a toddler, young child to be unsupervised with a dog. Bottom line is that they are still animals, the dogs I mean ????. However, It does show the confidence I have that Jack will calmly walk. After the hour walk, it was time for breakfast after their 45 minute rest. Unfortunately, after breakfast Jack did a wee near the food bowls, I did not have the chance to take him out. To me it is territorial behaviour which neutering will help to resolve. Jack rested for the remainder of the morning. Then it was bath time, I first washed Charlotte. Jack is not a silly dog the moment he saw Charlotte in the bath he went upstairs. One Charlotte was done I got Jack from upstairs, no problems. I manage to lift him in the bath and had a pampering session. He was as good as gold but went upstairs to relax. He relaxed upstairs most of the afternoon until I started cooking. He really wants to watch me cook in case some food could be found. I had to reinstall a child gate, we had this also for Charlotte when we first had her as she would also constantly go in the kitchen. Just to make my live easier, I placed it back. Then it was time to pick up our daughter. We decided to leave both at home and again record how Jack was. He is already so much better being on his own, he did not do his normal songs but just the occasional whine. He will still need training on being on his own. Jack had a good day today. less accidents today, this is also as I understand his signals better and pre-empt what may occur to avoid the accidents. He was brilliant in the bath and such a gentlemen with walking with our daughter.

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
It was a surprisingly nice morning with some warm sunshine, so our residents had a lovely walk. New girl Raven is such a pretty little thing and she walks beautifully. She is a little anxious when she cant see you, so we popped a raised bed in one of the feeding runs and she spent a lot of time out there watching the comings and goings of the kennels - although she chose to lie on the concrete floor rather than the bed!! It was a fairly quiet day, a few visitors for the sand run but not much else so I got lots of mopping and cleaning done whilst Chris did the couple of health checks that were due. During the morning we heard from Jordan's foster Mum - and we have another member of the FFP Club!! So happy for him. We watched the black clouds roll in this afternoon but managed to get the walks done in the dry before the heavens opened thankfully. Unfortunately the washing that was drying nicely on the line wasn't as lucky!! Rosie brought little Flash in this afternoon in time for her to meet up with her new Mum & Dad and go off to her forever home. It was lovely to see her again, she is really gaining in confidence and is managing to bear some weight on her poorly leg now too which is great news. Wishing her and her new family many happy times ahead. Well the week has flown past and another weekend is upon us. I will make my usual wish, accompanied by my usual glass of wine, and hope that some more homes are on the horizon. Cheers one and all - Angie xx

I am over the moon that Jordan who has been out on trial is doing absolutely fantastic and has been signed up - yay!!!! I cannot say how happy I am. During the viewing last Sunday before going out on trial, Jordan was showing quite a bit of interest in Bert, the family's Terrier, but with training and very sensible owners he is now unmuzzled with his new friend and has settled very well. They love him and we are so happpppppppy!!!! Ruth x

Jasper was not impressed with his duvet last night and decided to scatter its stuffing around his kennel, it looked very "snowy" in there this morning! He knows his new name now and will come over to you for a cuddle. 🙂 Xxx

Well done Kate. Another of Crash's great granddaughters so another relative of my Sam and Nadie. I've only seen black relatives so far so Kate certainly is very different looking. Beautiful. x

Raven

Can't wait to meet Raven on Sunday. She's Crash's great granddaughter which I think makes myvSam her great uncle - or half great uncle anyway. I haven't quite worked out the relationship with Nadie - Nadie is Crash's granddaughter. If she's anything like Nadie she'll be very alert and clever. The Crash genes make for very good looking houndies. x

Flash
Over the Rainbow Bridge
Flash popped into the kennels with Rosie this morning. I got the chance to give her a cuddle and wish her a happy new life. She will be off to her new home tomorrow! She has been a firm favourite with us all during her stay at Daybreaks. She had her X-ray earlier this week. The results didn't show anything untoward. She does have a plate and several screws holding her leg together but the vet said all looked ok with them. Her exercise will need to be limited to what she is comfortable with and she may need pain killers from time to time, but she should still be able to live a very happy retirement. :)) Xxx

Thanks to Erik for taking Yardy out for a walk in the park. They were very lucky and managed to miss the rain! Hoping this weekend someone will come along and fall head over heeels for him. :)) He has had enough of sitting in a kennel and is more than ready to start the next chapter of his life! Xxx

Yardy, today you and I had another outing. I decided to take you to Kingsbury Water Park as it is a bit busier there and I could see how you faired in that park. I will not repeat myself when it comes to the good curious traveller you are or that you are a strong boy who is excitable. Today, we did a longer walk then last time, it was about an hour. What I noticed during the walk is that initially you pull strongly, because you are excited. The longer in the walk you start to pull less. If you want to go somewhere you will try and get there. Your attention gets drawn by small white triggers in the distance. Very similar to our Charlotte who would get excited about a white plastic bag in the distance but when she got there it would, almost, be a disappointment for her. We met lots of cyclists, children on different types of bicycle’s and tricycles. We met several families, young and old. Nothing really fazed you. You took it all in your stride. We even saw and heard a jet ski doing its stuff, a bit noisy but again it did not bother you. I noticed when we were standing still you like to lean. Yardy thanks for the walk today. I am disappointed that you are still in the kennel I really believed you would be out of there very quickly. Specially as you are such a handsome and loving boy. I hope you will find your forever home soon.

Jack
I’m Homed
Jack had a bit more relaxed day, but seemed a little unsettled today. However, lets start with last night as Jack got a good telling of from Charlotte, who I think was a little jealous after all the activity I did with Jack during the day. Jack got a bit scared so needed some reassuring. Charlotte got a telling off and after defiantly laying down on Jack’s bedding Charlotte went upstairs in a strop. Greyhounds can be such sensitive souls. In the morning Jack kept me busy with cleaning. When we woke up we went down stairs and I took him out for him to relief himself which he did I belief he even had a poo, so well done Jack. The positive reinforcement was a bit premature when he came in the house he did a wee near the food bowls. They were given food and after the food he did it again near the food bowls. Jack needs to learn and so do we as humans and this can take time. Sofia, our daughter was quite busy and noisy in the morning running around but Jack did not flinch just looked up as if to say what are you doing. After the busy early morning Jack and I got ready to go to the kennel for me to do a walk with one of the other dogs. He was not very keen to go in the car but still jumped in himself, well done jack. The traveling is really no problem at all. Jack was quite pleased to see some of the other dogs, he also inspected the kitchen and he was especially keen on the bin with food. Jack managed to take some bread from the bin. Unfortunately for Jack I took it from his mouth as I do with Charlotte. Jack stayed in the kennel whilst I was away with another dog. The journey back was very wet but as always Jack just lay down and did not hear or see him. When we come home, he went straight inside just lay down on hi bedding. Ohh we did have another accident with wee. For the rest of the afternoon he has simply been relaxing. I had to do shopping whilst my wife stayed home and on my return I was told he had not made a sound lay down on Charlotte’s bed upstairs. During the evening Jack switched between upstairs and downstairs. He stayed downstairs whilst we were eating to be close to the food. He was really good and lay down on his bedding rather then hovering around the table. Food was given and then taken out for a wee and poo. Jack has generated possible interest which is brilliant, however, this is by no means certain. Please if you like Jack make an appointment to see him, he will simply want company and loving reassurance he is great with children and be such a great companion dog.
