Ruby fell asleep this morning with myself, Kate and her previous owner hugging her and telling her how special and loved she was. She slipped away quickly and is no longer suffering. Sleep tight little one..... we are heartbroken x

I’m Homed
Despite our sadness of the news I’d just received from the vets by telephone about Ruby, I was over the moon that my favourite boy was chosen and went straight off to his new home. The family had a greyhound shaped hole to fill following the loss the previous day. Toby not only has a new home but a new name… I’m going to miss this fella who used to rest his head on top of mine when I used to give him cuddles, just like my Tony used to do…. I’ve already had photos and messages to say he is settling well x

Over the Rainbow Bridge
Yesterday morning I took Ruby to the new Blaise referrals center in Longbridge. Ruby has been with me since last Thursday evening on foster after Cath brought her round to mine, who had been fostering her previously but due to commitments couldn’t keep her. Ruby had started falling over, very often would be ice cold despite coating and blankets and had a very poor appetite. An MRI was performed yesterday and sadly confirmed our fears that she has a large mass… nearly a third of the size of her brain. This explains her incoordination, lack of appetite and temperature control. She has been on our bed again all night but has been very distressed and sadly the kindest thing we can do for her, as advised by the neurology specialist yesterday, is to let her go. We are all heartbroken…. yet again…. My thanks go to Chris and all the fabulous volunteers for opening up and closing down the kennels so I could take her for her appointment. X Her scan and appointment yesterday cost us over £3,000 so if you are able to donate towards this please click on the link below - there is a donate button on the right hand side of Rubys page x

Pan last went to Elmdon Park 8 weeks ago and today returned for the 2nd time. He's now been with us at Daybreaks for 10 weeks and is possibly starting to suffer with "long stay black dog syndrome ". This would be so sad as he is an affectionate loving lad who met other breeds today without any aggression. He does get excited at the sight of other dogs running free off the lead..... but only in a "friendly let me play too"" way. Let's hope his forever home can arrive before too long

Jack is such a handsome kind boy. So loving. He is eating OK atm I think a bit shell shocked after working kennels. He's such a lovely soul. He will be a fantastic addition to anyone's home. Xx

I took Jack to Elmdon Park today. He is such a sweetheart. We saw lots of dogs from Jack Russell size to Golden Retriever. He showed no signs of reactivity towards them and if anything, seemed a bit bewildered and intimidated by them. When we were approaching a dog, he sometimes stood still (as if to say 'If I don't move, they won't notice me') or turned in the other direction (as if he thought as long as he couldn't see them, they couldn't see him!). He was a bit braver when it came to following a dog from behind and did have a couple of cheeky bum sniffs before the dog in question noticed him. All he needs are a few more chances to get to know that other dogs aren't too scary and can be his friends. He has a gorgeous coat, friendly temperament and is such a happy boy. Hopefully he will find his forever home soon xx

Shanesmum is right, it was very chilly this morning! At least it was a nice bright day and our Daybreaks residents enjoyed morning and afternoon walks. Xxx We had two new recruits to our morning walking team. 🙂 Xxx Thanks to our fabulous DofE students for entertaining the boys and girls with enrichment treats and toys. 🙂 Xxx Bessie came in for her 4 week health check. She looked great and as beautiful as her photo in next year's calendar. Xxx Penny went off to her new home. She is such a sweet little girl. She got quite bored of all the filling in of her paperwork...but did enjoy modelling various coats and Fleeces. Of course she looked gorgeous in everything! Her lovely new family were so excited to take her home. Wishing them lots of great times together. Xxx Thanks to everyone who popped in with donations of bedding and treats. Xxx it was lovely to see George's Dad. George went home a couple of years ago and is very happy living in beautiful Cornwall. Xxx It was very quiet at feeding time, thanks so much to Anjna for feeding the dogs and for doing all the tidying up! Xxx Xxx

I saw Minnie this morning...we decided that when Santa Paws visits Daybreaks next week, she should mention to him that her Mom and Dad have been eating her Tuna and put them on the naughty list! :))) Xxx

It was fffffreezing this morning! Needed to breathe on the gate padlock to gain access to the kennels! Fortunately the boys & girls had the benefit of under bed heating to keep them toasty overnight (honestly I am contemplating moving in as it is so much warmer than my house!!!!) I just love Monty - his kennel is full of toys and when he goes back in after his breakfast, the tidy group of toys on his bed soon degenerates into a heap of fun on the floor as he just loves playing and throwing his toys around!!! Really hope this handsome and clever boy can find his own sofa soon. Xxxx

Miss Minnie Moose checking in with a mahoosive complaint- my hoomans keep eating my tuna! This is definitely not on and I have asked my Aunty Kate to have serious words with my Mummy & Daddy. Apart from this - I am having such fun and being a star apparently. I had to go to school with a behaviourist to address my reactivity to other breeds, and I am doing soo much better now - I even stood quietly whilst Mummy spoke to our neighbour with his Northumberland Terrier! I love going to the kennels with Mummy & Daddy when they go to work, and I love playing games and sniffing all the parcels that arrive at the house - well, you never know what’s in them! My Christmas wish is for all my pals at the kennels to find their own forever homes - it really is the best to be part of a hooman home. Woofs & licks, Minnie x

A big thank you to all the wonderful Greyhounds who came to the kennels to donate blood yesterday. Xxx We have had a message from Megan at the Blood Bank to say they collected 12 units from the dogs, 11 of which were the negative blood type which means they are universal donors. :)) Richard and Shirley's, Freida and Lynnes, Nadie received a special present each as they were both giving blood for the 10th time! What amazing little girls! Xxx Four of our current Daybreaks residents also became donors, Penny, Pan, Jack and Monty. It was a very long day and it was nearly 6pm before Monty got to bed! He loved it so much he wanted to go back out with the nurse and do it all again. 🙂 Xxx If you are interested in your Greyhound becoming a Blood Donor please give the Blood Bank a call on 01509 232 222. Their next visit to us will be on 18th January 2024. Xxx
