A big cuddle to our little spotty girl tonight. Lyra is nine today :)) She has had a lovely day, started with opening her Birthday cards, one of which was full of Gravy bones, thank you Shirley! Xxx This afternoon she and Cracker went to Castle Bromwich Gardens, they had a great time exploring and doing lots of sniffing! older Brother Skip decided to stay and relax at home. Xxx After dinner it was egg custard time...Skip was the first one up for his! :)) Lyra is now spread full length across two beds, fast asleep. :)) HAPPY BIRTHDAY and lots of love to my precious girl. Xxx xxx

Babe is now on foster with us - chez Locke. She’s settled well. I left her downstairs last night but she soon mastered the stairs (some minor drama getting back down this morning but she’s had more practise now!). She slept in the spare room and settled reasonably well. She’s had 2 good walks (and didn’t show much interest in the canal side wildlife), been to visit friends, been petted by passers-by and survived me cleaning the downstairs carpets this morning. And she’s decided she likes a crate (much to Kitty’s disgust as the proprietor of said crate). She’s fine with little, yappy Pod and and all our various other hounds. She wasn’t keen to get in the van but is happy to be lifted in and travels well once aboard She’s eaten well and is now snoozing.

Dukey

I took Dukey to Elmdon Park today. This very shy nervous lad is often somewhat reluctant to leave the security of his kennel. However once persuaded out of his comfort zone and lifted into the car he settled and travelled well to the park. He enjoyed the experience although still showing signs of uncertainty. He met other breeds without any problems. Dukey is a quiet nervous lad who I would think would prefer a quiet rather than boisterous home to enjoy his retirement

Daybreaks Diary!

Yesterday we saw the lovely Smokey go out on trial and Babe also went out to Cath. Cath is one of our volunteers who attends a 'dog playgroup' and finds lots of wonderful new homes for our residents through this outlet. Let's hope Babe finds her furever home soon. On Sunday, I did some moving, sorting and being 'Ruthy Ruthless' I got rid of lots of stuff we don't need or use. I also added lots of lovely things to our Honesty Box (our little on site charity shop) full of great donated items helping us to fund raise. With all the clearing, this enabled me to set up another office area out the back as quite often we need the extra working space. This meant I could attack a lot of my paperwork without impacting on hogging the office! Casper, our new addition to the Daybreaks Family has now settled in really well. Since the devastating passing of my beautiful cat Socks, Casper has joined Tyke and she has really come out of her shell! We have never seen her so playful which is great to see - she is obviously enjoying the company of the little fella! We only do cat temperance testing on demand and currently we have Lady in foster who has 'passed her cat test'. Today the sun is shining and we are going to have a fun day with our current residents; Gal, Rocky, Dukey, Robbie and Mari and we have new arrivals coming soon.

Oh Rocky, was so sorry to hear you're unreserved. This boy's amazing, we fostered him for 11 weeks and if it wasn't for pulling me over (I am on the tiny side) he would still be with us now. He's the perfect gentleman in the home, sleeps all night, waits patiently for his food/treats, knows his place when you're eating. Loves playing with his toys, and enjoys the garden. He's such a lovely boy, he really deserves his forever home. Whoever adopts him will not regret it. X

Daybreaks Diary!

Angie had everyone fed and cleaned by the time I arrived yesterday morning. :)) Xxx It was a good weather day for walking....thanks so much to Diane and Isla for giving all our residents a stroll around the sand run in the morning. 🙂 Jill and Jan were here for afternoon walks. Xxx Thanks so much to Yvonne, Shirley and Richard who all just "popped" in for things in the afternoon and ended up helping with walks and feeding! :)) And lovely Caroline who loves cleaning the runs! Xxx We are so lucky at Daybreaks to have so many wonderful people to help us...but that's because Greyhounds are so wonderful too! :)) Xxx

LianneDaisy: I / we at Daybreaks are sorry things didn't work out with Babe but there will be a grey that will come along and be perfect for you, your son and the dog. It took myself and my family 3 attempts. First was a foster - looking at rehoming but she didnt like the look of her self in the TV and jumped at it, broke. Second was a foster over christmas but he was already going to a home after christmas. Third came along Emer (now called Penny after our previous dog Cash). Trust me... it will happen.

That is incredibly sad to hear, I'm so sorry. You seemed so excited too. It must have been an awful decision to have to make, but it was a selfless one - doing the best for all concerned. I'm sure all the other greyhounds and lovely Daybreaks will look after her.

Babe is the most beautiful lovely girl. Unfortunately my youngest son who is awaiting an autism assessment really didn't adjust well to her being here so we had to make a decision that was in his and also Babe's best interest. We are heartbroken because she was lovely and just wanted lots of love and attention. I hope she finds her forever home soon.
