I am normally at the kennels on Saturday's but unfortunately Jo is still not well, so Ruth was in yesterday and I was in today. It was a busy day and I'm so very grateful to Denise for opening up and having nearly everything done by the time I arrived. Many thanks to Carol, Alison and Ben for all their hard work and to the lovely people who came in to help with walks this afternoon. :)) Xxx Peggy has gone out on trial today...hoping all goes well. Such a sweet little girl. Xxx We had several visitors for Nail clipping, including the very handsome Jag. :)) He went home with his customary two bags of puff jerky. Xxx Little Sasha came in for her four week check up. She looks absolutely fantastic. It was obvious how much her family love her and she was such a happy girl! Xxx Great to see you all. We also had a visit from previous Daybreaks resident Jasper, he will soon be an Usher at his owners wedding, Can't wait to see the photos! He looked absolutely stunning and so happy. :)) Xxx Another handsome visitor was Padfoot and his lovely Mum Carol. 🙂 Xx It really is wonderful to see lots of happy Greyhounds! I'm just a little confused tonight as I keep thinking it is Monday! I was most disappointed when I sat down to watch Springwatch....it's not on until tomorrow :)) It's not just Greyhounds who like their routine! Xxx :)) Hope you feel better soon, Jo. Xxx Xxx

I’ve just spent three days in bed feeling rotten so having to be in today was a killer! However therapy from our residents especially Truf Truf was the medicine I needed to make it through!! Today the girls on site were viewed and the lucky Peggy was chosen and is going out on trial on Sunday. Little Gabby is now sharing the big kitchen run with Fox and seems much happier. Big thanks to Angie, Laura, Chris, Erik, Matthew and the Ranstead volunteers for being part of a fabulous team today x Big Happy Birthday wishes to Kate whose birthday is today and get well soon wishes to Jo xxx

Another warm and sunny day today...:)) Kevin went out on foster. He has been quite stressed in his kennel since he arrrived las week. Hope he will be happier in a home, with two other lovely female Greyhounds. We are very grateful to Michelle. Xxx Ginger has gone out on trial. Such a sweet little girl. 🙂 Xxx Thanks to Alan and Richard for taking her to her new home. Xxx. Hoping all goes well. Xxx CJ, one of our Work Placement students from last year came in to volunteer for the day. It was so good to see her again. She is hoping to train to be a Veterinary Nurse. It's so nice to see our ex students being given the chance to work with animals. 🙂 Xxx Truf had another dressing change today. It's so difficult keeping her foot dry in a kennel environment, what she really needs is a nice home where she can keep it dry! :)) Xxx Thanks so much to everyone for their help today. I Don't know what we would do without you all. Xxx xxx

Our very tall, handsome Kevin has been fostered today! He has been quite stressed since his arrival at Daybreaks last Saturday. Thanks so much to Michelle and her family for inviting him to stay with them. He met their two lovely Greyhound girls in the sand run. He followed Marge around and when she sat down he sat next to her. Love at first sight! :)) Xxx

Everyday I have looked at Kevin. He reminds me and the girls SO much of our Cash. He looks absolutely adorable. Can't wait to see him in the flesh and help him out.

    I’m Homed

Today has been quite an emotional day as we saw both Ginger and Gabby back from trials in their new homes. They are both wonderful dogs but sadly it was not the right homes this time for each of them. Both girls were rehomed from other centers who were unable to take them back for various reasons. We are now full and would be really grateful if there is anyone who is willing to foster, as the two girls, in addition to Kevin our new arrival from Saturday are extremely stressed. This in turn stresses us - not only from hearing them cry and see them unsettled but with the ever increasing waiting list we are under pressure emotionally. If you think you could help please call the kennels on 0121 782 7702. Homing is incredibly slow currently and this sadly makes our work stressful. 🙁 On a happier note, Truf Truf went to the vets today and her toe is healing well and our thanks to Growler Phil who sent us a big delivery from Iceland and our freezer is now full! The slow cooker is already on for a casserole for the inmates tomorrow!

Thanks Ruth for letting me know about my badge. Thicky person that I am I hadn’t even missed it! It must have fallen off whilst I was walking Miss Moose after opening up yesterday. So glad that our residents had a great day out yesterday - it does them good to have a change of scene and some mental stimulation in the form of new sights, smells and sounds. Thanks to everyone who took a hound yesterday.x I shall reclaim my badge when I open up on Friday - I clearly need to know who I am!!!

Wow what a whirlwind of a day! We had three viewings today with two family's going away to think about it and the gorgeous Mr Fox has been pencilled in to go out on trial shortly. We are over the moon for him as he is a wonderful boy and surprised he hasn't been snapped up sooner. All the inmates who went on the Agria Walk yesterday were visibly tired and showed little interest in their enrichment time today. Cath came with Pod (her little dog with an enormous attitude) to do some 'small dog socialisation testing' and all the residents excluding Robbie were excellent. Our new boy Kevin who arrived yesterday was quite stressed but was golden with Pod and did eventually show a bit of interest in his treat ball and licky mat! On his walk we noticed him limping and he has a slightly swollen toe - hoping it is nothing serious but we will keep an eye on him. We had a visit from Poppy aka Crusty for me to trim her pads and nails..... yes trim her PADS! She suffers with hyperkeratosis so I cut off the overgrowth of her pads - she has very cronky feet but it doesn't stop her enjoying life. I am grateful to all the volunteers who have come in - Denise, Dave, Gill, Ben and Alison - a totally great day but I am shattered and it's time to go home to my 4 legged crew! ps Angie - if you are wondering where your name badge is, it was found by the volunteers on the walk this morning!
