2 years on and remembering my beautiful Sarah Scare bear, such a beautiful girl and such a fantastic character. Miss and love you every day, you kept the boys in check and now Peanut has taken over that role. Keep the Rainbow bridge hounds in check. Xxx

I cannot believe it has been a year since we said farewell to Sarah Scare Bear. Never a day goes by when we don't think about her. I am sure she is standing there waiting to greet all of our beloved hounds and show them how to be young and pain free again. Xx

I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken to say that this morning we had to say goodbye to Sarah Scare Bear. She was diagnosed with leukaemia in August last year, despite this she continued to fight. There were several times when we thought it was her time, but she was like a little 'terminator'!

Over the past few days her back legs had started to deteriorate and we had to make the hardest decision to see her off to Rainbow Bridge. She was certainly the boss with our other greys. I am so very thankful to Christian and Fivelands for her care over the past seven months of her life, months more than we expected.

Thanks to Ruth for giving her the honour of being Miss August in this year's Daybreaks calender.

Sarah Scare Bear, I love you so much, words really aren't enough to tell you how much. The boys will miss you so much.

You may be no longer by my side, but you will be forever in my heart. Run fast and free beautiful angel. Xxxxxxx

Aw Sarah, happy belated Gotcha Day! Your poor mom has a lot on her mind with you and your little sis both not well. I am glad to know however that the catering appears to be unaffected by all this going on. The menus sound delightful! Lots of love to you from Linda Paul & Peggelets xxxx

Still a terrible parent.....it was Sarah Scare Bears gotcha day on 20 December. Sorry Scare Bear it's been a rough few weeks with not only you being poorly but also your sister Willow. Fear not everyone, with two poorly dogs the furry five have been living it up with sausages, mashed potatoes, casseroles, faggots and numerous other delicacies every night, so not gone without! X

What a terrible parent I am! I took Sarah Scare Bear on trial 7 years ago on 24 November, I have missed her gotcha on trial day :(((
In my defence I have been preoccupied with her diagnosis of leukaemia at the end of August which came out of the blue with a routine pre op blood test. I haven't posted about this previously. There have been several occasions when I have thought I was losing her, she is a fighter and after regular blood tests, some ok results and some not so good, today I received the news that things were looking better, she is bright and happy and thankfully eating better than she was and has started to put some weight back on, she is even barking and asserting her authority on anyone who stands in her way. I know that this will not go on forever but at 12 years old I am grateful for every day I have with her.

Fivelands have been absolutely amazing and I cant thank Christian enough. For anyone who doubts taking out pet insurance don't think just do it.

On a lighter note the calendars are now on sale, they are greyt, the slimline are in a slightly different format to the larger ones this year, so take a look and place your orders (oh, and by the way my Sarah is miss August (courtesy of Sharron Alexandra photography).

Well, today was Sarah Scare Bears 12th birthday. She was diagnosed with chronic lymphoid leukemia 6 weeks ago and yesterday started with medication. She is happy in herself, eating well and did partake in sausage bobbing this afternoon with Arry and Maisie Moo (she got 5 sausages and Arry and Maisie had 1 and a half each from the tin as they couldn't get the hang of the bobbing bit)!! She also shared her picnic lunch with the kennel dogs, Tiggy and Momma. She has had a lovely day at the kennels and will celebrate tonight with sausage, mash and veg!

Hi Helen and Dave. She is absolutely fine, don't know what it was, but if she was trying to rub her face she may have been stung although I couldn't see anything obvious. She may have just lost her balance whilst scratching, she is missing a toe which may have put her off balance. It didn't stop her celebrating with the others and their fish suppers!

Sarah says thanks for her birthday wishes. They all enjoyed their birthday dinners, thankfully the mushy peas didn't cause any noticable issues (so far)! She was, however rather put out that she didn't have a present. I have pointed out that she normally has something lovely from one of the stands at the dog show, think she is still sulking!

Today is Sarah's 11th birthday. She accompanied me to work with Arry. In true birthday tradition she will be, along with Arry, Max, Willow and Flloyd be enjoying fish, chips and mushy peas for tea (in hindsight maybe mushy peas were a mistake, see what happens later)!

How time flies, can't believe it is 5 years since I officially signed the Moo Cow up She is so cheeky and clued up with everything, she is an absolute star. She will be expecting fish and chips tonight to mark the milestone, but as it is Willow's birthday on Christmas Eve we are going to compromise and split the celebrations between the 2 dates! Sure they will feel short changed, lol.

About a month ago I noticed Sarah had a nail that was lifting. Ruth had a look and thought it may be a nail bed infection. My vet treated her with 2 courses of antibiotics and anti inflamatories. She was not limping but I noticed when she was lying on the stairs that she had a little hole under her nail. Long story short I took her to Fivelands, she was booked in for x-rays and the result was she actually had a fracture in her toe. The hole was probably where a bit of bone exited. She had part of her toe amputated last Thursday and went back today to have her dressing changed. It is healing extremely well and hopefully the stitches removed.

Oh and today was her birthda, and for being such a good girl when coming to work with me, she had a sneaky sausage roll at lunchtime, then the gang all had fish in parsley sauce with their dinner. Happy birthday Scare Bear, 10 years young today. Xxxxxx

Just got back from the vets with Sarah. He told the vet trainee that I have some very weird and interesting cases with my dogs (no idea what he means)!!! After checking the notes which said her left front leg was almost twice the size of the right one, he scratched his head and asked what I had done as he could see no difference between the 2 legs! No limp, no swelling, nothing, and now she is back to the annoying Sarah with the 5 am built in alarm clock. He said he has never seen anything like it and is still convinced I have done something other than giving her the anti inflammatory meds. She is now booked in for a dental on 23 Feb. Sarah you are a star. Xxxx

I would like to say a massive, massive thanks to Ruth for looking at Sarah's paw on Wednesday. she had been limping since Saturday and on Sunday I managed to pull a piece of stone out of the front of one of her pads. Ruth kindly checked to see if there anything else in but it was clear, however her leg was extremely swollen and as there was no other debris in there I took her straight to the vet, she is now on anti-inflamatory meds until Monday, the swelling has drastically reduced. Ruth also cut her nails and scraped her teeth, I was horrified to see how bad her teeth were. So when she has her check up on Monday I will be booking her in for a dental, I feel like such a terrible greyhound parent :( Once again many thanks Ruth. xx

After much discussion the fish cakes won, and went down well!

Well today marked a milestone. My Sarah Moo Cow gave her last blood donation to the Pet Blood Bank, as next week she turns 9 and has had to retire:(. She has donated a total of 8 times, potentially saving 32 dogs, I am so very proud of her. She also received a lovely retirement gift from PBB of a kilner type jar wrapped in red ribbon full of gravy bones. She will now pass the gauntlet to new boy Flloyd. Well done my Moo Cow, love you loads, so pleased you have made such a fantastic contribution to other needed hounds. Please if you have a hound who is wrong or more, please consider letting them donate, they get a full health check by a vet, just remember this is how Tommy's heart condition was diagnosed. Xxx

Just to let harryracer know sarah has settled in really well. Very bossy but not a bad thing. Has been a few years since I had a girlie grey but really good. Sorry did not have rehomed sign defore but had sick grey which we sadly lost last monday and one another 2 month ago. Rip buzz 11 1/2 and norman 13yrs tot forgeting pumpkin (bobby) and pippa.. It was a delight to be with Sarah at the Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse walk today. As well as making the most of a nice, long walk, she enjoyed all the attention she received. She is such a stunningly beautiful and friendly girl that some of the walkers were tempted to add her to their brood. They had better be quick - she won't be in the kennels for long!

Met this lovely girl today. Her coat was beautiful, gave her a hug and kiss, don't think she will be around long xxx

Sarah is such a cutie! She can't wait to get out of her kennel, and this afternoon bounced down the corridor like a kangaroo!!! Once out she is so inquisitive, checking everything out, but she is such a sweet, friendly, good girl and does settle very quickly. Big cuddles lovely girl.xx

Hi Sarah - guess who is in Ruth's kennels as well, yes you have guessed correctly - lovely Brett! Please let Sarah and Brett meet up as they were both our Racers and shared a kennel for over 2 years. Brett loved Sarah and she was lost without him but soon made friends with another dog for a few weeks. She is a lovely girl - can be a bit lively but soon settles down.
