This afternoon we sprinkled poor Spritz ashes at the memorial garden at Daybreaks. It was lovely for Angie, Ruth and Jo to be there too. We are sure Spritz is running with the Daybreaks gang and Sara is looking after them all. I can say hello to her on my way past on Thursdays too so this was the best place for her to rest in peace xx

Alan and Pam, I cannot express how sad I am to here about Spritz, you gave her an amazing 4 months. Where she was loved and spoilt rotten! She knows you’d tried your very best for her.

Alan & Pam I’m so very sorry you didn’t get to spend longer with your beautiful girl. Tears have been shed here at the sheer injustice of this cruel disease and how quickly it’s taken her. Trying to make sense of all of this is so very hard but it remains that you were there for Spritz four months ago when she needed you and you were there today. Love isn’t measured by the amount of time you all spent together but in the intensity of the feelings you experienced and the bonds you forged. A new star will be shining bright tonight. Smile up at her your biggest smile and be very proud indeed that you cared and that she chose you both and Paddy of course for her own.

I really don't know what to say. You gave this girl a lovely loving home. She was so lucky to have found you after all that she had been through. The short time se had with you was precious. I really feel for you as I know you lost your precious Ele to this as did I with Stevie, life is cruel. Please dont let this put you off rescuing another in the future. We are heartbroken about the news of Gracie (spritz) we looked after her for 3 years and were devastated when she had the poorly leg infection which still to this day we cannot explain... Gracie was a wonderful grey and together with Patch both had great times with us,, We are sad for Alan and Pam as we know they did their best.. We look back on the good times with the great walks with her... RIP Gracie (Spritz)... Such a devasting week now running free with Sara who did so much good work at the kennels...

Its with great sadness we had to say goodbye to our beloved Spritz this morning. Since the x-rays last Friday which showed that she had bone cancer our poor girl has gone downhill rapidly. We did our best with Tramadol but the last act of kindness we could give her was to help her to rainbow bridge. We are heartbroken to lose her but its been terrible to see her in so much pain.

Dear Spritzy, when we adopted you we looked forward to giving you a happy loving home for years to come not just four months but we have lots of memories from that time. Thank you for all the fun times we had together and for being such a beautiful happy loving girl, we are all missing you so much. You have been so brave over the last week but this was one battle too many for you. Run now pain free with all those who have gone before, we just hope you get better luck at the bridge. Hey Stunning Spritz, I type this with tears spilling as you gorgeous, gracious girl, captured our hearts for the first time when we were lucky enough to meet (oh yes and fuss for ages!) you at Daybreaks last autumn. It was just a couple of days after that you were admitted to Willows with your nasty leg wound, when everyone following your journey was captivated by your strong will, bravery and zest for a better future.... which you clearly and most deservedly found with your new Mom, Dad and adorable Paddykins. Knowing that you ALL found each other for the most important, loved and treasured part of your journey is what Mom and Dad need to hold on to. We all know that our beautiful hounds will one day inevitably break our hearts as they don’t know they are supposed to live forever but in return they give us unconditional love, companionship, laughter, a life time of memories. Some stay with us shorter than we would wish but we do it time and again and the ones we lose stay with us in our memories and continue to walk with us unseen my heart goes out to you both I am so sorry it’s not the result we had all hoped for.

I’m just devastated for you all. It’s so unfair after everything poor Spritz has had to go through all we hoped for was a great home where she could live out the rest of her retirement comfortably and safely and to be loved and treasured. Today we had to take Spritz for x-rays on her hip and we collected her from the vets late afternoon. We are devastated to have to say this poor girl has had no luck at all. She has advanced bone cancer in her right hip,the x-ray looked terrible so she must be in a lot of pain. I know this isn't what any of us ever wanted to hear and its hit us hard. We have pain killers for her and we are making her as comfortable as we can but we have a very difficult decision to make very soon.Life is so unfair at times xx

Poor Spritz has been lame on her RH rear leg now for a couple of weeks. She has seen our vet and has some pain killers for it. Unfortunately things haven't improved so she is going in for x-rays first thing tomorrow morning so that we can hopefully find out whats going on. She has been overdoing things a bit recently,think she forgets she is getting on a bit and no longer a young lady. Keeping fingers crossed its just a strain or a muscular issue. We are naturally worried made worse to think what this little girl has already been through xx

Well we have had the pleasure of this little girls company for a month already and she is a big part of our family Spritz makes us laugh with her antics, runs us ragged up and down the lounge playing chase and tug of war with her toys, expects us to share all our meals with her and Paddy.. but mostly with her.. and beats me to my place on the sofa every time -even having the cheek to kick me off rather than share! She's an absolute cuddle monster, greets family, friends and strangers with a waggy tail for fuss and is totally gorgeous She is very much loved and we can't thank her enough for adopting us We love you girlie :)) Pam Alan & Paddypaws x x

Spritz and Paddy have just been outside in the garden and decided it was play time. They spent 5 frantic minutes running after each other round and round churning up the grass until Paddy decided a wee was more important. Lovely to see she is so settled now that she will play with toys inside and do zoomies outside. She didn't mind having her paws washed afterwards too,she's a super girl. In true greyhound style they are both sleeping it off until dinnertime xx

Well done Spritzy! I am sure Alan can find an alternative place to sit whilst you enjoy the delights of the sofa my poppett. xx

Oh my goodness...having just arrived back in the UK not one but 2 more FFP's both being the extra special Spritz & Nick. I can feel the tears welling up as I am just so overjoyed. A massive thankyou to both families. All the supporters I know have been so worried for these two and just praying like crazy for good news. This is just wonderful and I cant wait to tell Melly & Teddy when I collect them tomorrow. They will do lots of high fives with all their paws.....as long as at least one is because they have missed their Mummy!!! Be very happy Spritz and enjoy all your adventures with the Padster. It has made my New Year hearing all this wonderful news. Xxx

Update from Miss Spritzy. Hi everyone i'm having a wonderful time with Paddy. I am getting used to his lifestyle which I have to say is something akin to a celebrity. Sheeps wool beds breakfast at 8:30 after our walk. Mid morning walks and biscuits with milk and then long sleeps until dinner is served. I can also snack between meals too thanks to the doe eyes trick. Today Paddy and I got caught canoodling on our beds. Fortunately we moved before the paparazzi could get their cameras out and involve me in a scandal. I've found the stairs no problem and I've quickly worked out the room called the kitchen is the best source of food when I fancy a snack. All above board,I don't need to help myself its all comes to me. Last night we had sausages and liver biscuits for our supper. Needless to say I'm in no hurry to return to kennels its too good here with servants on tap 24/7 xxx

Oh Spritz... what fantabulous news to learn that adorable Paddykins is helping to look after you... he’ll be the most welcome host I’m sure and I can’t wait to read his next ‘update’ as I think he may have a little helper in writing that instalment! I met Ruth at Fivelands with Spritz this morning for her latest dressing change and check up. I am delighted to say the vet was very pleased with her and the wound has fully healed up so no more dressing are needed and her leg looks greyt. Her weight has gone up again and with the festive season here she will be having plenty of treats and turkey to gain the few more pounds needed. She has now been discharged from the vets. Many thanks to her first foster family for all they have done for Spritz and the dedication of Daybreaks and all our wonderful volunteers in reaching this brilliant result. We are in love with her and we will make her Christmas and new year very special xx

Well folks, we have a special guest with us for Christmas and New Year. After all that this poor girl has been through recently we answered Ruth appeal and now Paddy has a new friend to play with and take care of. They have both been happily swapping beds,sharing treats and toys. Its very heart warming to see them sleeping after dinner. Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. This beautiful girl arrived back at the kennels today. I am taking her back to the vets on Monday to have hopefully the last dressing removed as her leg has finally healed well. This poor little lass has been through so much.

I am now appealing desperately for a home for her.

She is golden and can be left, she is clean in the house and does enjoy the company of another dog. If you think you could offer her a home or if not, a foster home please give me a call on 0121 782 7702. Although after tomorrow the kennels are closed over Christmas, I will be taking the calls until the 27th and then Kate and Jo will be available.

I am massively grateful to everyone who has taken one of our beautiful greys into their home over the Christmas period. I cannot put into words how thankful I am to you all especially when this time of year can be so busy. Ruth xxxx

The results from Spritz's latest bloods tests show her liver enzyme levels are normal, her vet is very pleased with them. Brilliant news. :)) All being well she will be able to have the dressing on her leg removed on Christmas Eve and won't require a new one :)) She will be staying with her foster family for Christmas. It would be great if she could find her new forever home early next year. Xxx

Further update from foster parents.
Spritz had a dressing change today and what an amazing sight - the wound is gone apart from a pinprick size hole! She has another dressing on primarily to protect the new skin and ensure no knocks or scrapes, but the Vet was delighted. Back on Christmas Eve for blood test results and, fingers crossed, the removal of the final dressing.

She was such a good girl at the Vets, even ignoring a feisty little Pug who was lunging and going generally potty!! Her fan club gave her many cuddles, fusses and treats and she was very reluctant to leave!

We have everything crossed that the New Year will bring the new home that this special little lady deserves. xx

Update from Foster parents....
Spritz had her dressing changed this afternoon, and her wound is now almost gone. The Vet was so pleased he called in colleagues and Nurses who have seen her over the weeks to come and have a look - and Spritz thoroughly enjoyed the attention! Hopefully she will be free of dressings by Christmas.

She is being the perfect house guest, and her personality is really starting to shine. She enjoys playing with her treat ball and very quickly learnt how to roll it along with her nose to release the contents! She also loves playing with, or should I say dedding, squeaky toys.

This little lady is an absolute pleasure to be with, and considering all she has been through, she is a real gem who loves her fuss and will paw at you if you stop before she is ready! All she needs now is her forever home - she will be a lovely addition to someone's family and will bring them so much. xx

Update from foster parents today...
Spritz had her dressing changed today and such good news, the wound is almost healed. The Vet was delighted with it, a further dressing change on Friday so keep fingers crossed the incredible progress continues. After the vet we took her to visit Aunty Ruth who was so pleased to see Spritz looking so much better. After such an exciting day she is now fast asleep in her basket bless her. X

Oh no please dont tell me this. We were so praying she could be kept as she has settled in. At least she has been fabulously looked after & I will pray there will be another kind person or family who would suit a more mature lady. I have a special love for those more in need....I wish I could take her & Hector right now!!!!! Come on folks......there must be someone out there........??...

We Saw Spritz's foster family today. They are so happy with her progress. :) Her leg is looking so much better. :))
They are not able to keep her on a permanent basis so are hoping a lovely home will come her way when the time is right. Spritz had her dressing changed today, and my goodness what a difference in just a few days. The wound has shrunk further again and is looking good, the Vet is very pleased. She has some tablets just to help her liver but things are going well. She now has quite a fan club at the Vets'! X

Spritz foster parents have just had a call from vets.... blood tests have come back... Her protein levels are still a little high, but are coming down. Her liver enzymes are getting there slowly, but no cause for concern. She will have another blood test just before xmas to ensure things are still going in correct direction. Yay

So pleased for you spritz well done! I so want to meet you and give you big cuddle you look so beautiful and such a fighter xxx

Spritz has put on a kilo in weight, the wound is smaller again and is starting to fill in now aswell. Results from the blood tests will be on Thursday at the next dressing change. She is being a golden girl and doing so well, long may it continue. Thanks for everyones kind comments, Spritz sends big licks. X

She is also well on the mend following her terrible illness last week, just a couple more blood tests on Monday to ensure things are still going in the right direction. She was an absolute star at the Vet's and everyone there has fallen in love with her. So happy for this most special little lady. x

Just a quickie to ask how Spritz got on visiting Fivelands today?

Yes I felt the same when meeting her, she was so affectionate and paw pawed me constantly for fuss x

John & I had the greatest privilege to meet, snuggle & be constantly pawed by this most gorgeously, adorable & brave little girl last Monday when we popped in to Daybreaks. John had ‘that’ look in his eyes which I know to mean “if my pockets were big enough, she’d be sneaked in to them & be going home with us”... Alas, me being the villain I had to point out that we have 2 black beauties at home already who wouldn’t take kindly to having to share Mom & Dad’s bed with another stunning 4 paws! So, when I read on FB just a few days later how seriously ill Spritz had been, I was heartbroken. We all agree that her injury should never have been left to get into the state it was but this girl is a fighter and as Sirenmeoldy notes, Spritz has come through this traumatic experience for a reason and let’s hope she chooses a family who truly deserve her. John was at The Willows yesterday with our friends gorgeous greyhound and when he asked at the reception desk how Spritz was, quite rightly they wouldn’t give him any details, so I was left holding my breath until I read that she was back with her foster family. Spritz you beautiful girl, you get our biggest electronic hug today as all of those real ones we had with you last week just weren’t enough. XXXX

Oh my poor girl, we are gutted to hear what a horrendous time you have had. I didnt think I had any more tears to shed after crying so much in recent weeks but here I go again. There is no point in going over old ground, and what I would like to say could not be posted on here, but it just goes to show how what probably started as a tiny wound from catching it on brambles or whatever whilst out walking can turn so quickly into a large wound and then something life threatening if not treated PROPERLY IMMEDIATELY. We must all remember this. We are praying for you sweet girl. You have survived all of this for a reason and that will be hopefully to gain a warm, caring and loving home where you can flourish in retirement. We have made a small donation in the past week for you & Buddy and can only apologise it isnt more but before this crisis had given a good amount to Bez. I wish I could win the lottery & then there would be less of a problem!! Has anyone else noticed all the recent increases??? Parking in Mell Square has increased by 20p for the cheapest stay, my tin dog food has gone up 80p per 6 tins at Sainsburys & I have just had to pop into brum & the off peak ticket has gone up 30p. Goodness knows what joys await us after Brexit!! Anyway, keep taking the meds, plenty of nice food & rest and very grateful thanks to your foster family. So pleased she's home. Haha! We've kept the cleaners in a job today at Willows. There was a lot of dried blood when Georgina removed Skip's dressings. As she cleaned it, it made it wet. Skip then shook and there was blood on the floor and up the walls! Only the blood she was cleaning, not fresh, but it was still a mess.

I'm sure Spritz meant it as a nice leaving present!

It is soul destroying when you know how critically ill one of our dogs is and you cannot share as she was so ill. It has been touch and go, and by no means is she out of the woods yet. Poor Spritz has been very poorly over the last few days. I did not want to post as the last 24 hours have been touch and go but she is in the capable hands of Willows. She became very ill and the vets believe this could be as a result of septicaemia. She is now stable, although still critical and we are keeping everything crossed for her. Due to all the immense in patient care, investigations and treatment we are already facing costs of over £2,000. As you know we work extremely hard to fund raise to pay our vets bills so we would be enormously grateful if you could help by clicking on the donation link on her page. I will keep you updated and please keep everything crossed for her recovery. I have added photos that were taken when we popped to visit her today.

Spritz aka Gracie is improving day by day, her foster mom says she is such an affectionate girl who paws for fuss... She is clean in the house and is so settled and chilled now. She will be up for rehoming soon.

Gracie went for a dressing change today, the vets were very happy with how her wound is healing... Its shrunk by about 1cm in width since Monday...

Gracie and Patch are being fostered separately to enable both there own special one on one attention. They have not been fazed by this... Patch was a happy bouncy boy this morning when we checked on him and gracie was fast asleep with legs in the air... Both are doing great seperately and we all hope they make a speedy recovery...

Under difficult circumstances Gracie has been returned to the Trust today and has gone off to a foster home. Xxx

P.s. When we first had Lilah she whined for the first couple of nights. The greetings in the morning were spectacular' - jumping up to the ceiling, leaping between the sofas and we were covered in kisses.... Fast forward six months. Now we get a quick 'flick of the tail' in acknowledgement, a forced incline of the head and a look that says 'you please yourselves, but I'm lying in for half an hour!' Love her. X

Hi Mary and John. I've heard say that the radio can be soothing, very low; apparently radio 4 (which has no sudden loud noises) or Classic fm. We have these two stations on all the time anyway. Sounds like you have have it sorted though with a bedtime companion! Good luck. X

Hi Mary and John, we let both Twiggy and Skip decide where they wanted to sleep when we first took them home; which to begin with was upstairs with us. Now they are both happy to sleep upstairs or downstairs...just depends on how comfy they are on the sofas at bedtime! Pleased you got some sleep ! We use Serene -UM calming tabs which were recommended to us by a vet available from large pet stores We use for bonfire night but are good for seperation anxiety etc They are non sedating..just relaxes Excellent ! X x

The lovely Spritz came along today with her kennel mate Billy Bob, me Paul and Jess to Lyndon Methodist Church's Summer Extravaganza. She was golden and took the terrible weather in her stride. She had some lovely cuddles and settled on her bed in the dry under the gazebo. What a star she is, not to mention the fact she's a real cuddle monster. She gets my cuddle for today and I'll promise tomorrows to Billy Bob. XX

I brought the gorgeous Spritz home with me last night from the kennels as she has unfortunately been wetting the bed. She has been a perfectly behaved house guest with mine but is having problems with needing to wee loads :-( I have got a sample this morning which I will take to the vets and go from there..... hopefully it is just a urine infection that can be sorted easily with antibiotics.

Spritz met Louis and Charlie today (non greyhounds) and got on very well with them.
