We are delighted to say that Ashley is no longer reserved. He was such a good boy while we sorted the adoption papers (well maybe the stuffed crocodile that he chewed the face off wouldn't agree!) We saw him running (in the sand run) for the first time. He looked so happy. He is an absolute joy. xxx

Ashley is delightful. We will continue to work on his uncertainty with my daughter but I feel very confident that this lovely boy just needs reassurance. Like most of these gorgeous dogs he wants to please and to have as many cuddles as can be managed!!!! We can do that!!!! Many thanks to Kate and to Ruth for their continuing help. Two very happy FFP's xxx

Thankyou for Ashleys birthday wishes. I think he had a good day, mainly lying in the garden in the sun. (well he is retired). He gnawed the arm of his birthday present ( a 'comfort' toy monkey from my daughter) and removed the squeak! He enjoyed his pilchard birthday cake and loves his new bed. Hope all the kennel houndies enjoyed their cake. xx

Thankyou all so much for your hints and tips. My daughter came today without the lovely Charlie so that we could concentrate on Ashley. We were in the garden when she arrived and as soon as she sat down he got up and went inside - no aggression just didn't want her anyway near him- Having coaxed him out with a treat he approached her for a treat (or several). We all went into the house and she gave him his breakfast. He then went to his bed for a bit of a snooze. She and I were both in the room with him - no problem. Later she put his lead and muzzle on him and took him for a walk - no problem. She was giving him constant reaasurance but no more treats!!!. Walk over and back indoors she dried his pawa unmuzzled and took his lead off. He went to bed and she sat on the chair nearest his bed, he wasn't bothered. I stroked him in his bed and then my daughter sat on the floor and stroked him all the time talking to him calmly and THEN he was so relaxed he gave her his paw for more strokes!!!!! I am so very pleased for them both. If she has time she will come over with Charlie on Wednesday to see if that alters the dynamics. He was amazing (and so was she) he even went to her when she called him. Once again thankyou all for your interest and help xxx

I am no expert either about my own behavior let alone dogs but, as you say Ashley is super with you, and he has just found his mommy, maybe he see's your daughter as a threat to his keeping his new "mommy" to himself, hopefully if you "fuss" them both when you meet up on his territory he will realise everyone gets a fuss of you .LOL

I'm not an expert on strange behaviour but it may be a territory issue. Try asking your daughter to call Ashley to her for some fuss and when he allows her to do this give him a reward. It's just an idea. x

We took Ashley with us to the kennels to wait for us while we walked some of the dogs yesterday. Whilst he travels well in the car, which is now a mobile dog bed, he wasn't desperately excited to be put in the run, but he did have a nice sniff with his ex kennel mate - the super Susie. He is super with us, fairly good with fellow grey Charlie who he has met three times doesn't seem bothered by other breed dogs, he he happy for me to groom him, clean his teeth, he isn't bothered when I sit on the floor close to him when he's eating, so why does he growl at my lovely dog loving daughter when she is at my house but lays with his head on her lap when in the garden at her house??? Any ideas to nip this in the bud would be greatly welcomed.

Ashley has been a good boy again today. His visit to Charlie in Tamworth went ok. and we will see how they are at our house on Wednesday. Charlie is such a brilliant confident dog and Ashley is quite laid back. I don't think they'll be a problem if we are able to manage them well . xxx

Rubytwoshoes, I think Ashley has decided to adopt you already. Sometimes these hounds take a while to settle in their new homes but Ashley is making it easy for you.
I think you should get that t.shirt x

Well I've had a busy day and this dog is terrific. He was on his bed in the lounge when I vacuumed the rug - no problem. I decided to see what he'd do if I mopped. The only movement he made was to lift his nose off the laminate (why do they prefer to leave bits of them hanging off their bed?) so that I could mop underneath. (Typical male or what ladies). Then we went into the garden - him to snooze - me to mow the lawns. Again he wasn't fazed - at one stage I thought I'd have to mow round him!!! but he decided he was a bit hot and moved to the shady bit. He is a good boy when we are eating and he is a good boy when he is eating. He comes when I call him, he waits when I tell him and gives me his paw when I ask him. Mmm if all continues to be ok with Charlie I think we may need a FFP t. shirt xx

Didn't hear a peep out of Ashley. We put his bed in the kitchen. Firstly because he assumed (wrongly) that he was allowed on the settee. We would have to be on the floor if he was on the settee!! and secondly it's so much easier to mop than the lounge. He was brilliant no mess and didn't wake until my husband got up at 5.30am!!!!!!! 'to make sure Ashley was ok'!!! Dog fine, husband hmmm. We are taking him to Charlie's house in Tamworth tomorrow, everyone keep everything crossed that it goes well. xx

What a lovely day for fostering a greyhound. The fantastic Ashley spent the day having a laze on the lawn, he met and walked with the fabulous Charlie with absolutely no sign of aggresion. Fingers crossed that he's good boy tonight. xx

Ashley was in the kitchen run with the gorgeous Susie today. When I went in to see them they both gave me lots of kisses , what a lovely way to cool off on a warm day. Ashley chatters his teeth when he's having a cuddle, he is very gentle and walked beautifully on a loose lead for the whole walk. He likes to have a look round but is very responsive when you say his name. Cuddle for him tonight xx

This boy was brought to the kennels last week as his owners were unable to keep him. They had got him from Gumtree which they thought they were helping a dog in need but sadly found that their home was not the right situation for him despite coming to us for help and advice. He has been assessed over the past few days and today spent some time with the cats and is deemed to be cat friendly. We apologise to the trainers whose dogs are on the ever increasing waiting list as he has taken one of their places but we were asked to take him as a matter of urgency.
