Sid has settled in wonderfully well in his new home. We couldn't have wished for a more settled transition. He is certainly gained confidence as he's learnt our local walks and the more busy traffic doesn't seem to bother him. A big thank-you to Daybreaks and his prior Foster carers for their hard efforts. We know both Sid and Maisie are more the better and thriving together.

Thanks so very much to Katie and Wayne and Maggie and Paul for fostering him until he found his forever home. He has certainly grown in confidence over the last few weeks. Xxx A really special lad. Xxx

What a lovely homing photo of Sid and his new sister Maisie in their matching coats. I saw them together at Sid’s viewing on Thursday and he and Maisie got on so well straight away - I think it was love at first sight for Maisie! Have a wonderful life in your forever home Sid xxx

It was great to see Sid again today. He looked wonderful with his very shiny coat...I'm not surprised sweet little Greyhound Maisie fell for him when they met today. It was love at first sight for both of them. Xxx

One month in foster: Posted on behalf of Sid's foster family:

Sid continues to thrive, he is very settled and he is a very affectionate dog, both giving and accepting cuddles. We have begun to leave at home for periods of time ( with our other greyhound)
We have continued to try to integrate Sid with other dogs. We have found that he is ok with most dogs his own size & shows a lot of interest in smaller ones. However, he did have an issue with another dog which was off the lead running towards him at speed & barking, he was spooked & unsure what was happening.
However, Sid is still very nervous around loud unexpected noises. We took Sid to Bromsgrove, and he was clearly unsettled with the amount of people around and also the loud noises coming from a building site, he was very unsettled.
However, once removed from there to somewhere quieter he soon became like his old self.
We can also confirm that Sid is not cat friendly, he gets very very excited when he sees them.
As Sid is unpredictable around loud noises it might be prudent that Sid is not placed with very young children, also as he is very energetic, excitable & playful which also may be a problem for younger children.
He likes to collect shoes socks etc he likes to chew but he does have toys for this & he has not damaged anything other than toys. He would also benefit from being placed with another dog perhaps one a bit older than he is.
He walks really well on the lead he will require lots of good long walks, he is an absolute ' hip magnet ' & loves company all the time.
An absolutely beautiful bundle of joy & happiness.

Day 4 in foster. Posted on behalf of his foster family:

Another good day . He is very very playful. He has discovered that wet washing, notebooks, blankets, etc. He is still very young & playful & stiill in the chewing stage. Came when name called we jhave started to leave him on his own for very short periods & we will build this up gradually
He is an absolute lovely bundle of energy a really great dog.

Day 3 in foster….
Took Sid to Kingsbury Water Pak, today. He was initially nervous around the swans & ducks as they were very loud & boisterous when being fed.
Although he was a lot better later on when the ducks were more settled. He observed other dogs from afar but didn't get close( this will be done gradually as time goes on).
Sid might our grandson today he spent time being walked by him which went ok. However, he didn't like it when other children were playing football near by.
Sid travels very well in the car not a problem at all, also copes bring close to our other dog.
Sid has struggled with being separated from us but this was his first time so it will get better.

Sid was quite stressed in kennels so was sent out to foster.

In his first foster home he very good but was quite clingy.

He has now been in foster for a few days with another greyhound (Roman) His foster family have sent this update...

Sid had a very good first night he was naturally intrigued by his new surroundings he settled very well. Ate very well & coped with a grumble from Roman very well.

He has no problems around food with Roman.

Sid coped excellently today in alongside Roman in the car. Took for a long walk but was frightened by the busy road traffic.

He loves playing with toys & generally a happy dog.

They are going to start leaving him to see how he copes and I will update again in a few days.

What an amazing report on Sid, how very heartwarming is how well he adjusted to a stay in a home. Sometimes it just takes time and patience to help these dogs settle into a home environment and start to enjoy the life of being a part of a family. Thanks to Katie and Wayne for giving this gorgeous boy a break from the Kennels and introduce him to the comfort of a life beyond a kennel. Xx

Lovely report Sid mate, sounds like you have started to relax into life outside of racing but just need a little bit more help.

There is so much that's new and different and it can overwhelm some of these beautiful souls, plenty of time and patience required to guide them along their way. Hope Sid's confidence continues to grow in his new foster home.x

We have had this fabulous report from Sid’s few day’s in foster:

he’s clean in the house, no accidents and asks when he needs to go out

he’s learnt “in your bed” and we started teaching him “down” - he will be so easy to train

he loves ear scratches, neck scratches, belly scratches and gives paw of more

we have been able to sit next to him when he’s in his bed, playing with him or giving him belly rubs, he’s shown no possession of his bed / sleeping area towards us

he loves playing with soft squeaky toys and has shown no possession or aggression over his toys at all. He almost “gives” them to you so you’ll throw them again. If they land a bit away from his paws you have to go and get it for him, i.e. too far

he is really inquisitive and wants to investigate surfaces, rooms, bags etc. He started to surf the kitchen worktops very well so this will need monitoring, don’t leave food around

he has let us wipe his paws when he comes in from the garden, and has started to give his paw of his own accord ready for the towel

he is very, very gentle with food - he sniffs it first, sometimes licks it then takes it really gently. He’s a messy eater with biscuits!

he is so, so frightened of new noises, sudden movements, sound from the TV, sudden noises. We imagine he would be better in a house with no small children.

If he’s on a walk and something spooks him he moves backward - we found a harness worked well as we had more control if this happened than just a collar.

his confidence has grown so much over these few days. He has stopped cowering when we go near him and now wags his tail, so it hasn’t taken long for him to trust us at all.

he is a velcro dog and follows you around everywhere - he stressed when we went upstairs and he was on his own. We taught him to go in his bed before we go upstairs, and he succeeded in staying in his bed until we came back down. However, he then got up and followed us around when we came downstairs. He does not like being left on his own and may benefit from having another, more confident dog around to be the pack leader. He has not slept on his own downstairs, he got too stressed.

he encountered a labrador on a walk, who we bumped into around a blind corner. Sid immediately said hello to the labrador and leant on the owner who made a fuss of him. This was so confident from Sid, who had been scared of us the day before. He had no issues with meeting this big dog up close.

he can get distracted by dogs who are running around the field at a distance, it’s more curiosity and he has shown no aggression. With treats he can be easily distracted. He’s more unsure and with time his confidence will grow. We have not met any small dogs up close on our walks.

he walks well on the lead, but was very stressed as it was a new area. Sudden noises out walking make him jump.

he is VERY interested in cats

he ate his meals well, we think maybe our scoop is bigger than the Daybreaks one as he wasn’t finishing 2 scoops every meal, although did go back and finish it off an hour or so later. He loves treats, bacon, sausages, cheese…

It’s been a joy to have Sid and he’s just a really lovely dog

Sid is being returned from his short term foster home today but due to his anxiety in the kennel, he is being transferred to another foster home later today.

Sid has only been with us at Daybreaks for 1 week and tomorrow will celebrate his 3rd birthday.
I today took him for his first visit to Elmdon Park .
He's a very gentle lad who reacted very well to the many small breeds he met. At one time there were 5 of them sniffing around him.
He reminded me in many ways of my own families roadshow veteran Sid who lived with us for 10 years and this current Sid has the many gentle characterteristics that made our Sid such a fabulous lad.
He's certainly going to be a wonderful companion to whoever offers him his future home
