How lovely that Joe is settling into his new home! With regards to travelling, our Mr Kev has never been a happy bunny in the car or van, but something totally unexpected happened after we took him to one of Julie's T-Touch workshops. The workshop was all about fireworks and he was stressing for England when the CD was playing, but he calmed down with the T-touches and when the workshop finished, without any hesitation he jumped straight into the car afterwards and lay straight down - result!

You can also start by making the car a really nice place to be .. if possible start by getting him in the car with some nice treats and let him hop in and out, don't go anywhere, next -when he's very settled doing that, let him go in for nice treats and start the engine (tho watch where the exhaust is blowing as that can spook them) and let him go in and out. Next- let him in, shut the door- go nowhere, shut the door (with him in a crate like Tracey said) go round the block, when he's really settled (has he got a soft bed in the car to be very compfortable?) go somewhere a bit further away (not the vet, to a country walk or similar) and so on .. if he get worried go back a step and don't force him .. like Tracey said they aren't used to seeing what's around them so that can frighten them.
Best wishes Julie x

Hi FionaR. I can sympathise, Gent, our first, wasn't keen either. As is usual with greys, his Achilles Heel is food, so we got him in with a tasty treat, saying 'up' at the same time. He'll now get in with just the signature word, but it took a few months. Emily, our second, is a bit more of a challenge-she pukes 5 mins before we reach our destination, regardless of the distance! I'm no expert, but I wonder if it all comes down to trust. Once Joe understands that nothing bad will happen , perhaps he'll travel better. Gent certainly did and we definitely have anything crossed for Emily. We found a Halfords dog guard useful, as used to climb over the rear head-rests from the boot! Mand, Gent & Emily x

MOST OF THE RETIRED DOGS WILL HAVE BEEN TRAVELLED IN VANS INSIDE A SINGLE CAGE TO KEEP THEM SAFE, THEY ARE NOT USED TO A CAR WHICH THEY CAN SEE ALL OUT OF THE WINDOW. IF DEPENDING ON SIZE OF CAR YOU ARE ABLE TO PLACE A FOLD DOWN CAGE IN THE BOOT SPACE HE MAY FEEL MORE SECURE.

Just an update on Joe. We brought him home on sat. He wasn't too happy in the car but once home he had a good sniff round and within a couple of hours was fast asleep in his bed. He's been absolutely fab. Not a single accident in the house. We absolutely love him. Of anyone could advise how we could settle him in the car that would great as we want to be able to travel to the greyhound walks, training and a holiday in the summer. Thx
