Milly is doing really well after her op on Friday, she hasn't even tried to take off her plaster from where her lump was removed! Unfortunatly she seems to be allergic to elastoplast and where her drip was on her front leg is now all red and sore from the plaster! Other than that she is much perkier today and we are all looking forward to a walk this afternoon in the sun :)

Just brought Milly home from Fivelands where she has had all but her canines removed. The op was getting too long and they didn't feel they had time to remove her canines. She is looking very sorry for herself with a dribbly/bloody mouth, tounge hanging out and a glazed expression. Shall be keeping a close eye on her tonight. She also had a lump removed from her tummy - we think it was just a wart but it is being sent off to the lab just to be sure. Love my Milly xx

Happy gotcha day Milly! We have had Milly for two years today - time has flown! She is lots greyer around her muzzle now than in the photos on here! Sadly for Milly she is back to Fivelands next week for the final teeth decision to be made....looking like total removal for the poor girl...oh well, on the bright side she wont be able to hurt poor Joey when he walks too close to her bed! Life in the Angell home wouldn't be the same without my beautiful girly - we loves her!! xx

Hi Rosierecoirder. Sorry to hear Millys gums are red and sore and can appreciate what she might be feeling. So you could also try Corsodyl gel on her gums. It's available at chemists (Boots) and seems to be safe for dogs as verterinary medicine suppliers sell it also. I have used it when Lola had a nasty cut inside her mouth and it healed up very quickly. I always have it in the house for my own personal use so it was to hand when I needed it for Lola. It's not expensive and you only need a thin smear round the gums, or you can use it on a toothbrush if she will tolerate that. Linda xx

Thankyou - that sounds really helpful, we shall give it a go! Anything to make her gums look less sore. I'm also reluctant for her to have another dental if it isn't actually going to change the situation - espeically if the teeth are healthy.

Hi Rosierecorder. Our grey Flynn has the same problem. He had all his teeth removed except his 4 canines because his gums were very red & sore. His teeth were healthy but the vet said his gums & jawbone were badly diseased. However, the redness remained, even where he does'nt have any teeth anymore!! We have tried everything, including. several different types of antibiotics, but to no avail. Then at the annual show in october we bought a product called Forever Bright Aloe Vera Toothgel. If we use this 3 or 4 times a week ( you can use it every day ) then the redness & soreness clears up. Although if we stop using it, it does return. You can brush with it or smear it along the gums ( we do both ). You only use a small amount, about the size of a pea - especially if you brush with it - as it does foam up a little.bit. It has a very minty taste & a very slight anaesthetic effect ( humans can use it too ). Flynn was'nt keen on the taste at first, but is ok with it now. It may be worth a try before having the teeth removed as it has certainly helped Flynn & we saw a difference in just a few days!! Not sure if Ruth sells it at kennels. The lady we bought ours from is named Vanessa - Tel :01564703707. Mobile : 07906 934057. ( think she lives near Knowle - but she will post it to you ). Hope this may help - I know we will continue to use it!! good luck. Paul.x.

Vaccination done. Teeth not so good - all her remaining teeth are healthy but gums still red and sore, metacam for now and when she goes back in 3 weeks for her follow up booster they will look at her mouth again. Probably a viral cause of gingivitis, probably will need another dental and teeth removed but because the teeth she has are good it is a bigger op, longer anaesthetic etc....just don't really feel like there is a clear answer :/

I do hope Milly gets on ok when she sees the vet on Monday. Sorry to hear she is having trouble with her teeth. Xxx

Milly is off to Fivelands on Monday for her annual booster. However I have a feeling its not going to be quite so simple...back in August she had 18 teeth out as he breath was sooo smelly. The vet concluded that she had really bad gum disease which may never go away until she has no teeth left. Despite our best efforts her gums are still really red and sore and her breath is getting as bad again as it was in the summer. Shall see what the vet concludes on Monday but I have a feeling she is going to be back in for a dental and more removals poor baby :(

Happy gotcha day Milly!!! One year ago we made the decision to keep you as a sister for Joey and its been a great year! Although she has definately been harder work than Joey she has been a fantastic addition! She adores Joey and tries to cuddle him all the time - hes never very convinced and usually moves...!

She is so funny, plays with toys, pulls funny faces, gently mouthes your arm when she is super super excited about something and loves cuddles with everyone!

Love ya Milly, been a fab year :) xxx

Hope Milly has cheered up after her bath and paw injury. Sending her a big hug. Greyhounds are very good at sulking aren't they?! xxx

Sunday 06 Jan 20:33

Poor Milly is sulking after an interesting weekend! She had a bath at daybreaks yesterday which she hates (but I love coz she smells of strawberries and is getting extra cuddles!) we also started her teeth cleaning regime which she hates! So today to cheer her up we went to the free runnig session which she loved! However, when we got home we noticed she had snapped her dew claw in half and it was hanging off!! A phone call to auntie Ruth and then a visit to chez Boswell where the dew claw was pulled out well and truly finished off her weekend of misery!! Asleep by the radiator now and had lots of cuddles!!

Thanks Ruth for always being a phone call away and giving up your time to help greys :)

Well, despite thinking it might have been Milly's bithday today one of her litter mates has their actual birthday on Greyhound data! So 23rd of April is meant to be the official birthday of lovely Milly :)

Milly is doing really well still, she is learning about the cats and will ignore them until they move fast, so we are getting there slowly :) She is fantastic with children and has a great temperament. Love my Milly Moo :) xx

Oh, and not cat friendly in garden is to be expected! I never let them all out together, she is very responsive to squirrels so would imagine she would be the same with the cats outside!

by rosierecorder

Thursday 23 Feb 17:07

He's probably fine!! It's just with Milly she was wagging her tail and pulling to get to the cats which wasn't the reaction I wanted from her, am aiming for totally chilled and as uninterested as possible! Am sure he is fine if they touch noses, my first grey joey never showed any interest in the cats so I found it quite stressful to start with how eager to get t them she was. She still does wag her tail at them sometimes but is much less desperate to get to them!!

by Chazat

Thursday 23 Feb 11:44

Is wagging tail with cat a bad sign then, coz our Bob always wags and sniffs then walks away but sometimes wants to play and barks at her! Pilchard is so at ease now with him she lets him sniff and they sometimes rub noses....but you've got me worried now!!!!!Also if he sees her in garden he will chase....so only cat friendly in house, I read in a book that this was normal as the dog sees the garden as his territory so all house rules go out the window. Is this right? or is my Bob not cat friendly!!!!!

Breakthrough with the cats today!!! Had her off lead but muzzled for the first time in the back utility with the cats, she was a bit interested but no longer wagging her tail at them and every time she looked interested I said no ad sh came to me for a treat!!! Once she realised there was cat food in te cupboard she got within inches f the cats but only sniffing for food and ignoring them!!!!! SO pleased as there have been times when I thought she wasn't cat friendly but things are clicking now!!! Yippppeeeee! Xxx

Things are going well in the Angell household. Milly met a 2 year old human at the weekend and behaved very well! Just a sniff and then stood perfectly to be stroked :) still working on the cats, very interested but beginning to respond to a firm no and look at me to get a treat. I'm sure she will learn but for now the lead and muzzle are firmly in place around them. Love her to bits though and don't mind how long cat training takes, as I'm sure she will make it!!!

Betty - now renamed Milly has done so well over the last 2 weeks that we made it official yesterday that she is here to stay. She is a real cuddle monster and very gentle and quiet. We are still working on the cat interest as she is very keen to see them and investigate. I think with time this will improve, but for now the cats have retreated upstairs and won't come down much! Her and Joey get on perfectly, sleeping cuddled up together :) Love my Milly!!! xxx

Hello moffy! We are still fostering Betty and making the decision! It's not a question of whether we want Betty (she has slotted into our life like a dream!) it's whether we want 2 dogs! I think we are nearing a decision now though :) xxx

Have had Betty over night as she is used to being in a home and not kennels. She settled down very well, was clean over night and quiet during the night. We left her today whilst at work and as far as I can tell she was fine to be left, no destruction or accidents when I got home :)
She is a lively young girl who will make a great companion xxx
