to my amazement, Tia was brilliant last night. she started to whimper when she was left alone. i firmly told her NO and BED, and that was the last we heard from her till 3am. Again she was told NO TIA BED and was quiet till 630 when we get up anyway. This is what the dvd by Jan Farrell says to do. I had to show her that as the Alpha female, i was not happy with the whinning... and she stopped. Am so amazed. she is much more relaxed today, stretches out on her day mat, and again at meal times, puts herself in the utility room while we eat. she seems to be happier, we have started to see the wagging dog tail and she has a spring in her step and more interested in life.... hopefully she will start to gain a little weight as at the moment she remains very thin (I did ring Ruth for reassurance as we think she has lost weight this week)... this continues to be a fantastic journey ..... and i love my 0715 morning walk with Josie and Tia.

Hi Sim family,
Lovely to hear Tia is settling in well - it sounds like she's doing great. She will settle into weeing in the garden soon - so keep the praise and cheese up. It's still really early days and she's probably still a bit stressed, but it sounds like she will response to training so she will get there.
If you are still struggling with her settling at night you may want to consider letting her sleep closer to you - I know a lot of people have tried that and found that it works.
If you do run into problems Ruth is great for getting you through those difficult first weeks!
Good luck and please give Tia a big cuddle from me.

we met Tia on sunday, home assessed and thanks to Ruth, Tia came home in the boot of the family car with my 3 children yesterday afternoon. She has been remarkable. having asked her 3 times to not go on the sofa in the kitchen she already ignores the sofa and simply goes on her bed nearby.. She also has another bed in the utility room with a child gate. She can see us, and the gate is open all day apart from bedtime and our meal times. She has accepted all of this. She even puts herself into the utility room when the plates go onto the kitchen table.. and its only been 24hrs. We felt that she needed a bed away from the kids and noise of the busy kitchen/day room so she can choose where she wants to settle.
She has been unable to wee in the garden at all. so despite taking her out every 30 mins (we gave up at 2230) she obviously had one accident over night. she then continued to not wee all day. again going out every hr.. nothing. then at 1930.. she did it whilst out on a walk and was rewarded with cheese and cuddles.
she is as soft as butter and tolerates the kids really well. they are desperate to hug her and play with her and Tia seems ok with this so far. They respect her bed and do not approach her when she is on her bed resting.
We have also introduced her to our bunny, with cheese as incentive she can now walk past her hutch and day run without concern... although she remains on the lead and it is early days, we are all thorioughly amazed and enjoying Tia... We are gradually building her confidence as she hates being left alone. She cried for ageslast night but did then settle by herself between 2400 and 0605....

any advice greatly received.. hope we are doing right by Tia as she joins the family routines.

Tia is a gorgeous girl who is fantastic with children and cats. She's been with us for an Easter break and to be honest, we would have kept her, but Cookie has become quite aggressive towards her. Tia walks very well on the lead and has met lots of dogs quite happily. Her toilet training has gone well - with only one accident in the house. She loves cuddles on the sofa, but I think would really benefit from a friendly dog companion as she is a bit lost initially. Good luck Tia you are fab and we will miss you.

Tia is a lovely little girl. We took her to Sutton Park on the walk & she was amazing on her lead as Beany (hi Beany!) said! She's quite bouncy in her kennel but out in the park she settled well & walked happily (although she was keen to get up front) A real little darling :-) <3 <3 xxx
