Saddle
I’m Homed
I took Roy and Saddle to Elmdon Park yesterday to try and reduce Saddle's reactivity. After 30 minutes of lots and lots of changing direction each time he pulled, he was happy walking past magpies, pigeons, ducks and geese. We met an Irish wolfhound and he was a little anxious initially but was then fine. He reacted strongly to seeing a Labrador, but has had no experience with other dogs and I think he would really improve with slowly being introduced to other types of dog. With time and patience, I'm sure he will settle xx

I took Roy and Saddle out to Elmdon Park yesterday, doing lots of walking with direction changes to stop them pulling. Roy was moderately interested in the different birds, ducks etc, but didn't pull hard on the lead. He seemed very uncertain of how to react when we saw a labrador and I think if he can meet some dogs other than large dogs (we met an Irish wolfhound and he was fine), he will learn that they are fine and nothing to worry about. I think it is just because he hasn't had the experience. A few more walks in the park will help I'm sure xx

Met this lovely boy yesterday. He is such a sweetie, loves being fussed, and is very gentle. Being so good with cats, I can't see that he'll wait very long for a new sofa. Good luck Ashley xx

I have had 9 greys over the years, 3 of which have been black. I can honestly say my choices were not based on colour, although all 3 were returnees, but all were and have been fantastic hounds. My first black boy was returned in a bad way and was staying with Ruth whilst he recouperated. He was fab and after a short time with love and tlc he had the most fantastic shiny black coat. Sadly I lost him at 11 and a half. Now I have Willow and Max both black and who each have their own special characters. Please dont't look over these fab hounds, no matter what colour they are make not only fab pets but fantastic soulmates. X

Ok, after reading Ruth's message, I'm going to put my little two penneth in! I am sure I am speaking on behalf of all black, male greyhound owners, potential owners out there please, please, please don't be put off by the colour black! All greyhounds are the most wonderful of creatures but for me the blacks are supreme! As I always say I am biased with my black boy but honestly his personality is second to none, he's the most loving, loyal boy I could wish for and stunning with his 'black' shiny coat...who couldn't fall in love? I wish I could let potential new owners spend time with him and then they would understand what a best friend they could be gaining. My heart goes out to Tony as he is such a beaut and just needs that chance that they all do. Come on people help these black boys out and in turn there are so many more that could then benefit from the wonders that daybreaks do! Ok, I'll get off my soap box too now, but hope that's helped lol xxx

Oh dear, what are you doing to me.? I feel if I was up for adoption some of the same negatives would apply to my details. I am not a stray haven't been too illtreated over the years, not really a pretty colour and age definitely against me. Maybe Tony and I have much in common !!!!!!

Ashley is gorgeous. Having been in a home he seemed a bit bewildered to be at the kennels last week, but when I was in the run with him yesterday he was great. very calm, very responsive, he ate his dinner like a gentleman and enjoyed a cuddle or two. Lovely gentle boy. Love the photos xxxx

Well yesterday I went zoomies in th garden when I came back mum was home! She went shopping. She took out a weird shaped item that was wrapped. I didn’t care about the item. I cared about the paper! I took the paper off her and just ripped it for about 5 minutes. It was fun. After my paper madness I saw what the item was. It was another greyhound! It’s quite scary actually because it doesn’t move. I looked at it for 10 minutes it was just staring at me. I thought trying to lick it would help. It just tasted like nothing. Definitely not real. I was so saddened to hear that Roy and Saddle were back at the kennels. If only my own circumstances were different, they would be mine forever despite their naughtiness!....... 🙁

This boy was brought to the kennels last week as his owners were unable to keep him. They had got him from Gumtree which they thought they were helping a dog in need but sadly found that their home was not the right situation for him despite coming to us for help and advice. He has been assessed over the past few days and today spent some time with the cats and is deemed to be cat friendly. We apologise to the trainers whose dogs are on the ever increasing waiting list as he has taken one of their places but we were asked to take him as a matter of urgency.

So Tony is still at Daybreaks, over three months after arriving here. Why I ask? Easy I guess..... firstly he is male - the boys are much harder to home than the girls. Secondly he is black - the pretty colours go much quicker such as fawns, blues and brindles. Thirdly - he hasn't got age on his side as he has just turned 6. Finally - he hasn't got a sad story attached to him. He is not a stray, been mistreated, rescued from abroad or had any sort of ill treatment we dread to hear about - he is just a product of the racing industry. People fall for those who have had a terrible time - it is only human but for Tony he has had none of this thankfully. The sad fact is he is just another one on our worry list of trying to find a home for. We have sleepless nights from daily calls from people who have had dogs that can no longer keep them and we have to turn them away as we are full to our capacity at the moment. We have the pressure of over 60 dogs on a waiting list waiting for a space here too. Stepping off my soap box now - sorry..... :-((((

Hi to everyone, I have sent my dad over with some bedding to help keep all you houndies snuggly in bed. Mom has also put some greeting cards in for your humans to sell when they do fundraising she hopes they are ok. Off to sit in the garden for a bit while mom does housework, don't like the vacuum it's very noisy and steals all my treat crumbs . Byeee and take care.
