Wow what a whirlwind of a day! We had three viewings today with two family's going away to think about it and the gorgeous Mr Fox has been pencilled in to go out on trial shortly. We are over the moon for him as he is a wonderful boy and surprised he hasn't been snapped up sooner. All the inmates who went on the Agria Walk yesterday were visibly tired and showed little interest in their enrichment time today. Cath came with Pod (her little dog with an enormous attitude) to do some 'small dog socialisation testing' and all the residents excluding Robbie were excellent. Our new boy Kevin who arrived yesterday was quite stressed but was golden with Pod and did eventually show a bit of interest in his treat ball and licky mat! On his walk we noticed him limping and he has a slightly swollen toe - hoping it is nothing serious but we will keep an eye on him. We had a visit from Poppy aka Crusty for me to trim her pads and nails..... yes trim her PADS! She suffers with hyperkeratosis so I cut off the overgrowth of her pads - she has very cronky feet but it doesn't stop her enjoying life. I am grateful to all the volunteers who have come in - Denise, Dave, Gill, Ben and Alison - a totally great day but I am shattered and it's time to go home to my 4 legged crew! ps Angie - if you are wondering where your name badge is, it was found by the volunteers on the walk this morning!

Peggy
I’m Homed
We took Peggy to the day out at Witley Court and she was adorable throughout the day. Obviously a little nervous to start with, but was perfect in the relatively long car journey and then so happy to be just out and walking about. She is very easy to walk, and well behaved throughout the day. She cleverly found some shade, to lye down and rest and relax in the afternoon sun, before trying and acquiring the taste for (dog) ice cream. I got the feeling that Peggy will become a very loyal and loving family greyhound.

Villa
I’m Homed
We had the pleasure of taking Villa to the day out at Witley Court, and he was the perfect hound throughout the day. First thing to say is how handsome he is, standing tall surveying his surroundings. He was really calm, happy to be outside, walking within the group, good around people other dogs and keen to see the next thing. Hopefully he will has his permenant days out soon.

Kevin arrived today...what a very handsome lad! His photo doesn't do him justice! I had a lot of trouble trying to get him to stand still! :)) He is a very friendly lad but was a little stressed when he first arrived. He was much happier once he had some lunch. :))

How do you think he’d be with children (5 and 11)? Would he be ok to be left for a few hours? He looks lovely and the fact he gets on with other breeds would be great for us.

Magic
I’m Homed
Magic, along with Sky came to Witley Court today for the Agria dog walk. He jumped into the car straight away and was good all the way. Not a peep out of him. He behaved very well on his walk especially as there were lots of dogs of different breeds about. He had a couple of growls but when told to behave did so. He enjoyed his doggy ice cream before we left, even trying to eat the carton. By the end he was tired out and slept all the way back to the kennels.

Sky

Took Sky, along with Magic to Witley Court today for the Agria dog walk. She wasn't over keen to jump in the car, but once in and for the whole journey was as good as gold. Even sitting a couple of times like a proper dog to look out of the window. She behaved well when we went for the walk especially as she only came to the kennels yesterday so it was possibly her first trip out. Before coming back to the kennels, she enjoyed a doggie ice cream. After such a busy day, she then slept all the way back.

Little Miss Truffle Pants, hope you feel better soon. Don't worry, Sarah Scare Bear had part of a toe removed, didn't affect her at all. Xxx

Rocky

We have been fostering Rocky (with a view to adopting) for 3 weeks now and he's settled really well. He's a very curious boy on walks always looking for cats, squirrels, pigeons, you name it he's looking! Sleeps well at night and not destructive when left during the day. His personality is really coming on, he makes us laugh when he plays with his crocodile, and loves to chase a football around the garden. We are trying to get him used to other people as he grumbles sometimes on introductions but that's a working progress. He's starting to pass other dogs without any problems even noisy ones which is a huge improvement. He's also called nudge in our home as he takes pleasure in nudging you up the bottom when you least expect it then wags his tail like "it wasn't me" He's such a gorgeous happy boy.

A beautiful spring day! All the dogs and volunteers enjoyed their walks today. So nice to not have to wear coats...it's been a long winter! 🙂 Such a shame Truf was unable to join us as she had to go to the vet today to have an operation on her toe. Thanks so much to Richard for picking her up this afternoon. Xxx The dogs loved being out in the runs, they all enjoyed playtime and licki mats. :)) Laura had several nail clipping appointments, including my Skip and Shirley and Richard's Murphy....Xxx Thanks so much to everyone for your help today. Mary, one of our College work placements finished her time with us today. Thanking her for all her hard work and enthusiasm over the last few months. We wish her well for the future. Xxx Xxx

Truf went back to the vet today. Sadly her toe was damaged more than than they first thought and she has lost part of it. :(( She arrived back at the kennels this afternoon looking very sorry for herself. It must be so sore. Xxx Truf is a very sweet, affectionate little girl who just wants to be loved and has so much love to give. Hoping her special someone will come along very soon. Xxx xxx

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
A slow cooked casserole was on the menu for the residents yesterday which they absolutely woofed down! Our Wednesday walkers were in (which means it was toasted tea loaf day - yum!) and all the residents had walkies except for poor Truf Truf who hurt her paw the day before. Laura had one well-care package and sorted all the residents with their daily grooming and teeth cleaning whilst I attacked the emails! I am pleased to say that Larky now called Roxy and Hilda now called Wilma are doing really well following their adoption on Monday. We sadly saw the return of Magic yesterday but he seemed quite settled being back. Chris, Mollie, Caitlin and I had a busy but quiet afternoon and we left on time which is a rarity! Sending get well wishes to Denise and Jo x

Today we received a donation of £400 in memory of Lynton Bradley who was born in Coleshill and lived in Chelmsley Wood for the past 50 years, owned, trained and raced greyhounds for many years. Sadly, he passed on 29th March 2023 at the young age of 79yrs after having expressed a wish that a donation for retired greyhounds would be preferable over flowers. However, one greyhound floral tribute was commissioned, which he would have loved." A copy of the photo of this floral tribute is on our Daybreaks Chat facebook page.
