Peanut
I’m Homed
Can't believe it's been 1 year today that Peanut was dropped off by her trainer for me to take on trial. What a difference a year makes!! Can be such a good girl and a little monster at the same time! Her official gotcha day is in March so official celebrations dinner will be then!! Happy coming home day Ickle Pickle Princess Peanut paws. Xxx

Yesterday, there were just 2 appointments in the diary so after cleaning out, with Denise feeding, I thought I would have a great day spending time with the current inmates...... ha ha not a chance! The phone did not stop and as fast as I finished a call, another one came through. Inbetween, we had the arrival of Ginger, homed from a GT branch that wasn't able to take her due to space and communication breakdown so we agreed to help. The owner was very upset but an increase in working commitments had forced the decision. Ginger was bathed by Laura and had great fun in the sand run and then came home with me as she was too distressed to stay in a kennel. She is going out to foster on Saturday and if all goes well, she has bagged herself a new home. Herbie, Tig, Momma and Tony also came to the kennels with me and today, whilst I sit doing my laptop work, they are absolutely crashed out! Thanks to our Wednesday morning walking crew and Chris who was a godsend in helping me during the afternoon to feed and tuck the inmates up for the night. It was a very productive day!

Monday morning started with a trip to Fivelands for the very gorgeous Magic. I had the opportunity at the vets to sing ‘Could it be Magic!’ when they asked his his name on arrival 🙂 Yvonne is on holiday this week so Kate, Lynda and our two work experience Emma and Izzy cleaned and fed the dogs as I attacked the pile of invoices with Mollie and we figured out our new franking machine! I took my three; Tiggy, Momma and Tony along with Herbie who I am fostering at the moment into the sand run and they were all doing zoomies together! Herbie is doing so well gaining weight and is such a happy boy x Magic came back from the vets - not impressed I guess that parts of him were missing but he was bright and happy to see his dinner! Myra was busy helping in the afternoon and after my appeal on Facebook we had a new volunteer come along and is going to start today helping answer the phone and with paperwork which will be a godsend. Rocky is much brighter and Robbie has settled back into kennel life although we are still seeking foster homes so we can attack our waiting list which is forever growing.

Thanks so much to Kitty's family for taking Rocky out yesterday. Xxx He seemed better today, ate his meals and enjoyed playing with a toy after his lunch. :)) He still has an upset tummy but not quite as bad as it was. What he really needs to cheer him up is a special home of his own. :)) Xxx

Ruth took Magic off to the vets this morning for his Neutering operation and collected him again this afternoon. He was quite awake when he came back and throughly enjoyed his dinner. :)) He is such a lovely lad! Hoping his forever home will soon come along Xxx

If you are thinking of giving a home to a Greyhound, please take a look at our beautiful boys! Our current lads are all fabulous....Rocky is our longest resident having been with us since last August. He is a big boy but all the more to cuddle. :)) We have two Magics, both great lads who have so much love to give. There is Steve who just loves to lean and has a tail that never stops wagging and our gorgeous older gentleman River. Xxx As for Herbie, everytime I see him I love him a little bit more! :)) I have two boys of my own, they are both wonderful. I adore them. 🙂 Xxx So please, give our Daybreaks boys a chance to show you how fantastic they are! Xxx

We were several volunteers short today. Thanks to everyone who came in and made sure the dogs that could go on walks did so and helped with feeding, cleaning and general kennel duties. Rocky Rock Star still didn't want his breakfast, however, he had a visit to the park with Jackie and Ned. He was so excited to see them and had a lovely time with them, he was nearly back to the Rocky we all know and love. This boy desperately needs his forever home. Steve was a happy waggy boy, not sure he is impressed with wearing the cone of shame after his neutering. Laura was kept very busy with back to back Pampers. The sand run was very busy today, we had a donation of bedding and a viewing too. The gorgeous Stacey was reserved over the phone after the lovely couple who viewed her went home and had a chat and decided she was the one for them. I have a few days off this week but will be watching the website for updates and any news about the Inmates!! Take care everyone. X

Rocky was very pleased to see us when we went to pick him up for a walk in Brueton Park today. He settled in the car for the short drive and was happy looking out of the window. Once at the park he was happy to walk and although still interested in other dogs he soon settled and allowed himself to be guided by us. A quiet word when other dogs approached us and he got to the point of not bothering at all, especially if other dogs didn't bother with him. He loves people and was happy to venture into Solihull for a bit of shopping. He is such a lovely dog and will thrive in a home if someone is prepared to take a chance on him. Consistency and love are all he needs. Fingers crossed he finds the right home soon xx

I so hope Rocky will continue to improve. He's such a handsome boy. I also do wish people with dogs off lead would keep them under control and if they can't, then keep them on the lead when in public places.

I hijacked Kate's login earlier - it has been a very busy day! We had Amelia officially adopted after being such a good girl on trial. Unfortunately we had an emergency vet trip to do as Steve's wound had opened up following his castrate so Jess kindly took him to the vets where he was stapled. He was so brave.... We saw Robbie come back for 'respite care' as he pulled his owner over after a small dog ran up to him and his owner fractured her wrist. It is such a shame as he was doing so well in his new home and as his owner can't currently walk him, he is back at Daybreaks. If we could get offers of walking help for his owner, he can go back home..... Poor Rocky is not himself so I have started him on Cobalaplex and already seems a bit brighter. Those who didn't go on walks Robbie, Truf Truf, Steve and Rocky all had extra TLC instead. Thank you to all our volunteers who came in and walked our other inmates - they all had enrichment play with licky mats too! Herbie who is currently being fostered by me has increased from 27kg to 29.8 and he is building confidence daily. He had great fun in the sand run this morning! I have just seen Poppy (aka Crusty) for her pads and nails to be trimmed. She suffers with hyperkeratosis of her pads and is so brave when I clip them! As it is almost 6pm, it is wine time so I will finish here. Kate and I have homes to go to!!! :-)))))) x

Rocky came with me to Elmdon Park yesterday. He clearly wasn't himself when I arrived, as he was reluctant to get up and say hello. However, once I had collected a lead, he was much more interested. He was a good boy in the park and whilst he isn't perfect with every dog, he is learning and improving. From the time he spent with me in foster, I already knew that he would allow himself to be guided past other dogs without much of a fuss. Yesterday though we had a spaniel run at us and stand barking at us about 2 metres away. At first Rocky did tell him off, but then he just stood and watched him as if he just couldn't be bothered exerting the effort anymore. He is a really super lad and he would make a very loving pet. To summarise his time in foster with me: loves his toys, food, walks, cuddles and is clean as well as settled overnight. He was a perfect foster hound. I have everything crossed that he will get his forever home very soon xx

Poor Rocky - he just isn't happy..... his temperature is absolutely fine but he has lost his mojo. I am appealing for a foster home for this gorgeous boy. He is happier with larger breeds but excited with smaller dogs. He is clean in his kennel, loves cuddles and is just fed up with kennel life. Ruth using Kate's login!!!
