I met this very pretty little girl today. She is an absolute poppet. Really friendly (apart from when she was being bathed according to Mollie who got wetter than Lola!) and loves as much fuss as she can get. I have to correct Ruth though, as she will be 3 in October not 2 (I wrote out her homing pack today with her age on it, all ready for someone to give her her forever sofa) xx

    I’m Homed

Sammy has been with us a week already and he has settled well into his new family life. His funny cheeky personality is shining through now and he is a happy boy. yesterday he pinched my tea biscuits twice, much to his mom's amusement. I only left the living room for a second thinking he was asleep, I should know better by now! Greyhounds have built in radars that detect free food in a nano second. Also items that go missing can be found in his bed such as my shoes this morning and the tv remote etc. In fact a few items now bear Sammy's teef marks! He does like to join in with the others and he plays well with Belle in the garden and spaniel Ruby has relaxed and plays with him too. He loves a run up the long garden and its funny watching him race away then half way up he goes into a hop on 3 legs, memories of his nasty injury I think which is healed up fine now. He loves everyone and everything, a super hound xx

Our beautiful new arrival this morning - apparently she used to run out of the traps and straight back to her trainer! She has never raced and is very happy and loving. She will be 2 in October.

    I’m Homed

Sadly Bobby has been returned today through no fault of his own. The other female elderly greyhound in the house has started going for him when he goes near her and as he loves the company, the owners are fearful of him getting hurt. They are distraught at returning him but feel it is the right thing to do for both dogs. Bobby has been in a home since March 2021 and he is toilet trained, good on the lead, loves people, sadly not cat friendly but ok with other breeds. He is a very friendly and nosey - especially with shopping bags.

    I’m Homed

My pretty girl Nadie made me very proud on Thursday when she gave her third donation of blood to the Pet Blood Bank. I wasn't sure if she would as she went to Willows last time as we'd missed the Daybreaks one. Unfortunately she was too anxious that time. Perhaps because she associated Willows with having her recent dental as it's our own vet. However, back at Daybreaks she was fine so we'll stick to going there. Well done Nadie. Mummy's very proud and I know Daddy is watching over us all. x

  • Daybreaks Diary!

    I’m Homed

Another very quiet Friday at Daybreaks, and with plenty of help from work placement students, I was able to make a start with preparations for Sunday's 16th Birthday party. Jo took lovely new girl Tilly off to the Vet to be neutered this morning. Tilly is a stunning looking dog, almost pure white with just a couple of small brindle patches on her head and back, and an amazing Roman nose which gives her a very different look. Following walks, our work placements got to work grooming and cleaning the teeth of every resident. The boys & girls appreciate the extra attention, plus regular teeth cleaning is very important for oral hygiene and grooming not only improves coat quality but gives a great opportunity to check the hounds body for any lumps, bumps, cuts or grazes. The weekend is here again, and its a rather special one as we celebrate our birthday and hold our 16th Birthday Bash in the sand run on Sunday. The event starts at 11am, there are lots of stalls for you to browse, sossidge bobbing and doggy dip for your hounds to enjoy, mini pampers, small animal Vet Lorna Clark will be on hand to talk about her book and answer your general questions about hound health, and our Grand Raffle will be drawn at 2.00pm - tickets are still available from the kennels or you can get yours on the day. Parking is at Birmingham Exiles Rugby Club - the weather forecast is still looking good so keep fingers crossed, and hope to see lots of you in the sand run to help us celebrate. I shall be partaking of a glass or two later, as usual, and as usual - stay safe! Cheers! Angie xx

  • Timmy

    I’m Homed

Timmy, has been with us for some time and he really needs his forever home. Timmy, is a young boy who loves being in the garden. He particularly enjoys try to get my other two to play and it can get a bit boisterous and loud. He loves human contact and will always happily great people, sometimes a bit to enthusiastic, but remember he is only 2 so still a youngster. He gets on with my 5 year old daughter who can be very loud and active, but always supervise your dog in the presence of children. He also loves his fellow Greyhound contact. He does need a home where he has another Greyhounds around which makes his management easier. Timmy, is doing well with obedience. I have thought him some basics, such as loose lead walking, walking to heel, stopping at a curb, the stay in the home, some distracting techniques. Not all are perfect but he is so much better then when we first had him. Timmy, is going to be at Daybreaks birthday event this Sunday. If you are interested in this lovely and loving boy we will be there around 13.00. If you can give him a home with other Greyhounds, please come and see him. If you want support with settling Timmy, Talk of the Dog will provide 2, 1 hour sessions within a month of adopting Timmy. Timmy, really needs and deserves a forever home please come and see him.

    I’m Homed

We had a visit from the Pet Blood Bank today. There were several Pet dogs donating including Belle who gave her fifth donation and received a badge and smart Red lead. 🙂 Two of the Trust dogs also became blood donors, Cristina and our new lad Con. The staff said Con was very calm until afterwards when he was given a treat of some cheese. They said he was extremely impressed and excited to receive it! I guess he might not have tasted it before. :))) Xxx If you are interested in your dog becoming a donor for the Pet Blood Bank please give us a call and we can pass their details on to you. Xxx Ruth took Socki off to the vets to be neutered this morning and she has gone home with Ruth tonight. Xxxx Xxx

    I’m Homed

A busy day today with Socki off for her Spey and the blood bank in which brought extra visitors to the kennels. Tomorrow,16 years ago on 1st July 2006, with excitement and trepidation, I opened the doors of Daybreaks - my only mission was to help more greyhounds like my first - Tara (racing name Daybreaks Beauty) During this time, over 3,000 homes have been found - we’ve had many highs as well as many lows but I hope Daybreaks continues to be able to help many more gentle souls in the future. Thank you so much to everyone who has adopted, supported and continues to support…. This post is not a pat on the back for me but a thank you to Daybreaks supporters and for the greyhounds lucky enough to come through our doors and many more to come ???? xx
