Daybreaks Diary!

Another insanely hot day today, thankfully the sheets that had been put up in the feeding runs meant it was so much bearable for the inmates. Thanks to the Wednesday walkers who were in quite early the dogs had walks before it got too hot. The rest of the day was spent relaying the dogs in rotation into the runs with the paddling pools, some were less enthusiastic but had a good cool down. We saw the very lovely Socki off to her new home today. Whilst I was doing her homing she decided the best place to go was under the desk! Thanks as always again to the Wednesday walkers and to Kitty for coming in and to Denise who stayed until closing for their help, I really appreciate everything that they do, especially as we were very short of help. Xx Well, it looks like it's going to get even hotter, so please everyone take care of yourselves and your hounds. Xx

Django is a very shy boy at the moment, he is quiet in his kennel and walks lovely on the lead. He is a tall, handsome lad and very sweet. I had a look at what his name means..."Django is a boy's name of Romani origin meaning "I awake", the "D" is silent" Hope his forever home will soon be his. Xxx

As it was cooler this morning we were able to take the dogs for short walks. I had the pleasure of taking Zavi. :)) He is a little erratic on the lead and gives a jump every now and again...but with help he will learn. :)) Xxx He is also very scared of Motorbikes and is quite worried when they come past him. Xxx He is an extremely friendly and happy boy who is only two years old and won't be three until November, so just a big puppy who needs some help understanding the big wide world! :)) Xxx

DAYBREAKS NEEDS YOUR HELP!! We have been approached by the Elmdon Park Support Group with a fundraising proposal - however we will need your help to get it off the ground. The Elmdon Park Community Day is taking place on Saturday 10th September, and we have been given the opportunity to arrange and run a fun dog show during the day, not only a potential good fundraiser but also great publicity for the kennels and the Greys. So if there is anybody out there that would like to get involved with this please let us know as soon as possible so we can let the Park Group know if this is going to be viable. Please give me or the kennels a call. The Park Support Group are hoping to arrange the Judges and supply the equipment - we just need to supply people to attend on the day and take registration fees, act as Announcer, Marshalls etc. It may be a bit short notice to make it work this year - but it's always worth an ask!!! Daybreaks Diary!

It was incredibly hot again today, so sadly no walks for the dogs. Much safer to keep them out of the sun and in the kennels, blinds down and fans on. They did all come out for toilet breaks and short playtimes in the paddling pools throughout the day again. After taking a paddling pool break of her own, :)) Ruth went around the runs putting up bed sheets to help keep the sun out, they look like a scene from the Arabian Nights! :)) Thanks so much to everyone who donated sheets the beautiful purple and blue ones especially! :))) We also made sure the sky lights were covered over in the kennels, it makes them quite dark but cooler. Xxx It was quiet for visitors but it gave us time to catch up on other things. Xxx Thank you so much to everyone who helped out today. Very much appreciated on such a hot day. Xxx Have just checked the cameras and all the dogs look settled and relaxed. :)) Xxx

Penny here well I have really done it this time, my hooman mum has been trying to keep me cool all day with instructions for the doggy day care but I did get so excited when she got home that whilst she was getting the washing in I did steal a pair of her knickers and did go running around the garden with them and having great fun by the time I did give them up I was so hot and bothered that she did make me wait a long time for my tea as she said I was too hot to eat, Joe was really unhappy with this and did give me the cold shoulder, he is still sulking because he has had to wait for his tea!
