Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
Thanks to Denise for opening up and getting on with the cleaning and feeding as usual. We only had a few dogs to walk as we had a couple of doggie non walker's today, thanks to the Wednesday walkers for taking the dogs out, making coffee (which sadly did go cold) and sending toasted fruit loaf my way!! We had a new arrival this morning, the lovely Zavi, I think he and Dougie will have a competition to see who is the best at stealing!! He very carefully tried to remove the donation trolley cover, I managed to stop him before he succeeded. As we were very few on volunteers this afternoon Denise, Nabeela and myself took the dogs that could walk on lead around the sand run, I took Zavi, I think his sat nav was broken as he was all over the place. He is very affectionate and am sure after a few days he will settle down, after all it is a completely new environment for him. Tomorrow we have another new arrival, I will look forward to seeing her on Friday. X

Sahara (Socki)
I’m Homed
Socki paid her first visit to Elmdon Park today She's an extremely pretty and affectionate white and brindle girl with a very gentle nature in the kennels She did surprise me then slightly by the way she sprang into life at the sight of other dogs running around in the distance. She was very keen to join in and also the sight of squirrels sent her into overdrive. She did however walk past other breeds with no extreme reaction. It seems she's fine with dogs walking past but gets excited when they're running around. A lovely girl who will hopefully find her forever home very quickly.

Dougie
I’m Homed
If there is one hound who puts a smile on everyone faces at Daybreaks then its Dougie. He is one big bundle of laughs as he skillfully pinches items from the donation trolly and then looks as if to say hmm it was like that when I got here. Even his recent unfortunate injury didn't slow him down or stop him bouncing with fun. I think if he was a stand up comedian then he would be Tommy Cooper, not having to do much to make people laugh. I can see him enjoying himself playing with teenage children chasing after his toys. Its a shame he is still waiting for his forever home, he has so much love to give and there would never be a dull moment with him. He needs his forever home..."just like that" xx

Dougie
I’m Homed
Our fabulous Dougie is getting very bored of kennel life...as he hasn't been able to go for a walk for a while because of his injured paws he has been looking for things to do. :)) He loves trying to get things off the donation trolley and has got this down to a fine art! He had a Kong stuffed full of goodies while he was sitting out in the big run which he loved. 🙂 Then he decided to pull the stuffing out of a toy and had to have a snake taken off him as he was working his way down the snakes body removing all the squeakers! :)) He would be great fun to have at home and be a constant source of amusement to his lucky family! He is a very happy boy eager to start a new chapter in his life. Xxx Hope he doesnt have to wait too much longer. Sending him my cuddle tonight.:(( Xxx

Sammy (Del Boy)
I’m Homed
Sammy (Del Boy) came home for the day to meet the family today and he was a real star. Although he was a bit overwhelmed at first he soon settled down, meeting first Greyhound Belle who loved him and decided a bit of flirting was in order (little madam!) Next came chocolate spaniel Ruby who said a hesitant hello. She is like a teddy bear and just wants to play, I'm sure it won't be long before Sammy will be joining in the fun. Lastly comes black spaniel Vandel who tends to prefer playing with his toys. He had a little grumble then ran off after his ball, he likes to think he's in charge. Later on he was more of a gentleman and tail wagging said a proper hello. Sammy then tried every bed before settling down on the biggest one for a snooze. He loved his adventure today meeting his new family, sniffing out the garden and having treats. He's a very gentle boy and loves everyone, looking forward to his homing. After we got back to Daybreaks, his dinner was ready. I left him tired out but he managed a yawn and a grin...he's just fab xx

I’m Homed
Max came with me today to Elmdon Park. He was absolutely perfect. He walked steadily, always on a loose lead. We met lots of dogs in the park and he wasn't bothered by any of them. At one point we was surrounded by about half a dozen small dogs and he completely ignored them. He's a stunning colour and would make a very handsome addition to any family. Good luck Max xx

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
What a glorious day it's been today - has Summer come at last??? We were joined today by a group from Brewin Dolphin doing a volunteering day. We set them to work walking, grooming, teeth cleaning and feeding - in at the deep end, but the best way to learn all about Greyhounds and how the kennels runs. They said they have had a fabulous day and one or two of them have fallen under the spell of our residents! Having so much help on hand meant I spent most of the day up to my eyes in duvets out in the bedding store!!! Along with the van load of bedding that had been unloaded yesterday, we had another huge donation this morning, so all the bags have been sorted, covers put on duvets, and blankets & towels put away - phew! Many thanks for all the very kind donations. x Lunchtime saw the lovely Josh off to his new home, wishing him and his new family many happy times ahead. Our 16th Birthday Bash is only 3 weeks away - there will be lots going on and the Grand Raffle will be drawn during the afternoon so give us a call to get your tickets - I've got my eye on the 4th Prize Doggy Hamper!! The residents are now having their dinner, then will settle down whilst we do the end of day tasks and close the kennels for the night. The diary is looking busy again for the weekend, so it's the usual glass raising later with a wish for new homes for our boys & girls. Let's hope the weather stays good - and whatever you are up to as ever, stay safe and enjoy. Cheers! Angie xx

Timmy
I’m Homed
Timmy has had a very good last six weeks. He is a very loving boy with special needs due to his anxiety. The special needs are patience and lots of tender loving care, which anybody would be happy to give. His anxiety levels have improved so much for the better. He is also not responding as much to cars, trucks or other loud noises. He is certainly raising his head and showing interest, but no longer the spinning on lead or lunging. He will react to the modified cars to make loud noises or loud motorbikes, I myself get spooked by these noises. Like all of us we have good and bad days, this is the same for him. We had concerns about his continuous weeing in the house, not gaining weight and his loose stool. He has had a blood and urine test, these have come back clean. That is good news. He was placed on Royal Canine Gastro…. Food which helped him gain weight. His stool is still not great, together with Daybreaks we are trying to find the food that works well for him. The good news is that he is gaining weight and starting to look healthy. In terms of the weeing this is also improving, he has the occasional accident during the night but he has learned how to ask to go outside and have a wee. Again more good news that the weeing in the house has almost stopped. Timmy, and the 2 other boys were attacked by a loose walking Husky, no owners around and went for my pack head on. Luckily none of the dogs were injured, I came off worse and spent the morning in hospital. It has set Timmy back a little as he is responding more to other dog breeds. Timmy has been put through his paces with training, this has mainly focused on loose lead walking. His pulling and darting from left to right and in front or behind you was terrible. Now he is walking mostly next to me and is not often darting from left to right and he is getting that a change of direction should be behind me not in front of me. This week I was at the Kennels and asked one of the volunteers to walk him and let me know how he did. I was very pleased to hear that he pulled a little and occasionally changed direction, but it was not a challenge to walk him. You have to keep in mind that he has not been walked by this volunteer and it is a novel/new environment. They generally revert back to old behaviours in these situations, that is why it is so pleasing that he behaved so well. Timmy loves the attention of people, he will walk up to them tail wagging like mad and wanting the attention, lick and nibble their hands out of excitement. He also loves his play. He has come out of his shell much more now, which my wife also said this morning. She found him a zombie when he first arrived. Now he is this very playful young boy. He enjoys playing with the toys we have, enjoys tug of war, loves his zommies in the garden and invites, especially Caesar, to play with him and run around in the garden. The latter can be a noisy affair but fun to watch. He really needs his forever home. He will suit someone who is patient and has other greyhounds. He really settled quickly with the other two here. He is full of energy and would probably love a garden to run around in. Someone, who is able to play with him as he does like tug of war and ruffing it out with fluffy toys or even bedding. He is an early bird. What you will get in your home is a loving boy who wants all the attention he can get, wants to play and is so happy to see people. What a brilliant new family member to welcome in your family.

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
Yesterday, as usual, was a very busy day! I took Mollie to the vets for her Spey. She was homed several months ago but had come into season so it was now her time. I took Josh too for his booster vaccination and he was such a good boy. I then popped to visit Susie who went out on trial the day before and she is doing well. Back at the kennels Richard had been busy with our list of maintenance requests, and Declan, CJ and Josh unpacked a van load of bedding that Denise had kindly brought in. Once this had been done I could get to my treatment room and redressed Dougies foot… it is healing nicely and Sammy’s leg as he had been licking where he had the cannula inserted following his castrate. That also is healing well. Although I post videos on Facebook many of our followers are not able to view so here is the link to our Daybreaks video diary on YouTube x https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl-A1Z2dbMI
