I feel very privileged to have reserved to beautiful Poppy. How could we say no to those beautiful eyes?! She will be known as Rosie due to Poppy being the name of a former family dog. If anyone is considering a greyhound I would encourage you to visit Stan. I saw him yesterday and he is a true gent, very calm and good with my 2 year old. I was very impressed with the set up at Day Breaks and Ruth was fantastic, taking lots of time to support me in finding the right dog for our family. Can’t wait for her to come and see her new home tomorrow xx

I am sorry to add this post. We spend an awful amount of time with viewings, matching people to the dogs, a lengthy homing process and offer support and advice. We say that we are available 24/7 to support those that need it. When I hear that someone feels that they have been unable to receive help this makes me extremely upset as we are always at the end of the phone. We care very much about every dog that is adopted from Daybreaks and do our best and that is all we can do.

    I’m Homed

Oh my goodness, what an absolutely crazy day that was!! Ruth was tied up with viewings & phone calls about viewings and a new arrival - whilst I found myself tied to the desk ploughing through the paperwork!! Both morning and afternoon walks were managed for the boys & girls, amidst all the comings & goings that kept us flat out all day. This morning the lovely Poppy was reserved, well done beautiful. Then the fabulous Bertie arrived on site - he is the brother of Tess, Jess & Bess and bounced through the gate with a welcoming smile! He is a big lad, but such a friendly happy soul. This afternoon the beautiful Ellie found herself reserved, so happy for her as she is finding kennel life a bit difficult so we are delighted she will be off to her new home very soon. Huge thanks to the many visitors who called in with lovely festive treats for both humans & doggies, donations of bedding and food, Lorna was kept busy with pampers and, as ever, the sand run was very popular. Well the weekend is here again, and looking at the diary it is going to be a very busy one - with so many viewings booked that we may well run out of dogs!!!! I shall keep everything crossed that there are some red or green signs come Monday morning. After such a full on day it's definitely time for a relax and a nice glass or two of red wine later on to toast our residents, and all our foster doggies, and wish for forever homes to come their way. Whatever you are doing this weekend, please stay safe. Cheers! Angie xx

    I’m Homed

A Tribute to Alan Porthouse As an unknown soldier killed by an exploding mine near Londonderry in 1989 so gracefully wrote when he left the following poem behind in an envelope for his family and friends: Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die. Thank you Alan for giving my grandson a good home for the years that you could. Thank you for the lovely conversations we had during this very hard time. I am just so sorry that we didn't get the chance to have one last get together. Thank you to Emma the Warden who informed me of the details of what happened. Go in peace my friend. Seana, Teddy and Fergal xxx

    I’m Homed

RIP 'Daddy' Alan I have had to wait for Granny to stop crying and help me write this post. I couldn't understand why the Postman returned my Christmas present this week which I could smell through the box so I knew it was from me. The postman couldn't help it but he just blurted out that the recipient was deceased and that made Granny burst into tears. I snuggled up to Granny with my little squeals as seeing her upset makes me upset. She then gently tried to explain in the language that I don't really understand that my lovely adopted Dad had gone to heaven and hopefully was going to meet my biological Daddy. I feel very sad because although I love Granny and my brothers I miss living with my adopted Dad. He was very kind and loving and we had a few wonderful years going everywhere together before he became beset with health issues. I love you Daddy and I know that I am not your only boy but I was your last boy and we shared special times. Thank you so much for being in my life and for continuing to send me pocket money this year. You were a very kind and gentle Daddy and I am so sad that I now won't be able to see you in February next year. I will always love you and I will do my best to be a good boy for Granny. Until we hopefully get the chance to reunite one day I hope you will be at peace. Your loving dog son Blue (Eoghan Melody) xxxxxxx

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

Wow! Simon's legacy continues to rise and although there is a long long way to go even a small amount monthly will help. There have been such sad losses this year but I looked at Cassies arrival photo this morning and saw the fear and hope in her in her eyes and believe that out of the sadness can come love and safety forever for these wonderful hounds once the total is reached. I wrote a poem a long time ago about Greys that ends "Maybe one day I will find a nice bed where I can stretch out my paws and lay down my head" Daybreaks is where that journey starts. We can make it happen however long it takes. xx
