Hello beautiful girl. You look a tiny bit worried but you are in a great place now and hopefully will soon have your very own sofa. Xx

    I’m Homed

A Tribute to Alan Porthouse As an unknown soldier killed by an exploding mine near Londonderry in 1989 so gracefully wrote when he left the following poem behind in an envelope for his family and friends: Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die. Thank you Alan for giving my grandson a good home for the years that you could. Thank you for the lovely conversations we had during this very hard time. I am just so sorry that we didn't get the chance to have one last get together. Thank you to Emma the Warden who informed me of the details of what happened. Go in peace my friend. Seana, Teddy and Fergal xxx

    I’m Homed

RIP 'Daddy' Alan I have had to wait for Granny to stop crying and help me write this post. I couldn't understand why the Postman returned my Christmas present this week which I could smell through the box so I knew it was from me. The postman couldn't help it but he just blurted out that the recipient was deceased and that made Granny burst into tears. I snuggled up to Granny with my little squeals as seeing her upset makes me upset. She then gently tried to explain in the language that I don't really understand that my lovely adopted Dad had gone to heaven and hopefully was going to meet my biological Daddy. I feel very sad because although I love Granny and my brothers I miss living with my adopted Dad. He was very kind and loving and we had a few wonderful years going everywhere together before he became beset with health issues. I love you Daddy and I know that I am not your only boy but I was your last boy and we shared special times. Thank you so much for being in my life and for continuing to send me pocket money this year. You were a very kind and gentle Daddy and I am so sad that I now won't be able to see you in February next year. I will always love you and I will do my best to be a good boy for Granny. Until we hopefully get the chance to reunite one day I hope you will be at peace. Your loving dog son Blue (Eoghan Melody) xxxxxxx

Wow! Simon's legacy continues to rise and although there is a long long way to go even a small amount monthly will help. There have been such sad losses this year but I looked at Cassies arrival photo this morning and saw the fear and hope in her in her eyes and believe that out of the sadness can come love and safety forever for these wonderful hounds once the total is reached. I wrote a poem a long time ago about Greys that ends "Maybe one day I will find a nice bed where I can stretch out my paws and lay down my head" Daybreaks is where that journey starts. We can make it happen however long it takes. xx

Caesar and Barney visited us at the kennels earlier in the week. They were both very happy and enjoyed the attention from us all. :)) Thanking Erik and his family for all they have done for both Barney and Caesar this year. So sad Charlotte will be missing from your home this Christmas but she will always be in your hearts. Xxx Lots of love to you all.

    I’m a Sponsor Dog

We allowed ourselves time to grieve over Charlotte, this was probably more a human need then that Caesar needed it. He always bounces back so easily, and lives live to the full, day by day and taking opportunities when they arise. I cannot speak for others, but I certainly can learn from him. One thing both Caesar and Barney still do is, after they had their food, when they come back in from the garden to relief themselves, they run to the hallway to check for food that charlotte may have left. This is a behaviour they learned when charlotte was alive, as she was a slow eater and not always ate all her food. So, there may be food in their bowls and hence they to this day they still run to their bowls to check. He is enjoying searching for food in the garden. I cut up carrots and scatter them in the garden and I also hide carrots in the soil. I sometimes do the same with small sausages cut up and scatter them in the garden. It is a really easy way of keeping any dog active by scavenging for food. Caesar certainly enjoys the activity and keeps his brain active. Caesar went with me to drop of my wife and daughter at Milton Keyness Train station when they went for a day out in London. Of course he loved the different smells and sights. More importantly he loves being in the car, most of the time he will watch what is going on. Caesar, is such a loving and happy go lucky dog. He always enjoys meeting people and getting his cuddles and trying to investigate the content of their shopping bag ????. We had several visitors coming around and that was quite exciting for both Caesar and Barney. They greeted the guests enthusiastically and were happy to see them and get cuddles. These days he wants to sleep next to me. I was first a bit concerned about it but he may just be needing some re-assurance and emotional comfort, which is fine Tina O’Hara kindly provided some essential oil for Caesar to try and help him with the cancer. He smelled them and walked away, this was with the bottle closed. Mind you, for me, it was also a strong smell. For Caesar it was, thank you, but no thanks. Tina then sent me some herbal powder and Caesar is ok with that, again this is to try and help Caesar with his Cancer. Tina thank you very much for your kindness we really appreciate this. As mentioned, Caesar is doing really well and you would not say there is anything wrong with him. He is even doing so well that he is about to beat the prognoses given form him in April. That is quite amazing and we hope he will beat his prognosis given in August which was 6 to 9 months. We haven’t noticed any further growth of the tumour. Caesar and Barney would want to wish all a brilliant Christmas and a Happy and healthy New Year.

    I’m Homed

Gorgeous Poppy arrived today. :)) What a very pretty girl. Shirley would have taken her home....but she already has four beautiful Greyhounds! Xxx Cath who is fostering Pops visited us today after dropping Pops off at the vets for his neutering op. She brought along her fabulous small dog Pod. We tested Will, Stan Boss and Poppy with her. They all did really well. :)) Cath picked Pops up after his op, we are so grateful for her help today. Xxx It was lovely to see Linda, Paul, Peggy and finally meet Lulu. :)) She is the smallest Greyhound I have ever met and so very cute! Xxx Ruth was busy in the office...with the help of Jean, think they were beginning to win the battle! Calendars are still selling well, thank you. We still have Christmas cards available too. :)) Thanks so much to everyone for all your help today. Xxx We have another new arrival tomorrow! Another young lady! :)) Xxx

Pretty little Poppy was just arriving as we were leaving the kennels this morning. We popped by with Peggy and Lulu in tow to collect and pay for my auction purchases. Poppy is a real beauty…. definitely my kind of greyhound. I hope she finds a home very soon x
