    I’m Homed

I'm so sad this lovely boy has been returned so quickly. We homed Jet 2 months ago and Ruby 2 weeks ago and they found life in a house confusing and scary. Ruby hardly slept for the first week but now she cuddles down and even hides her face under her blanket (so does Jet) as she snores peacefully away. I can't imagine life without my new kids as they are a complete joy to us. Yes we have problems but we are trying to overcome them together as a family should. It must have been heartbreaking to return these lovely boys so my heart goes out to the couple who had to return them, the dogs themselves and all the hardworking folk at Daybreaks.

Happy "Gotcha" day to my lovely Molly - I can't believe she's been with us for three years! She completely changed my view that I never wanted a dog, so much so that she was an "only dog" for just three months. She's a fantastic girl who has changed our lives :-))

I have just been reading about the greys returned which makes me so sad. Daisy is my sixth grey and all of them have been so very different. One in particular who had been so very badly treated lived with me for five years before he would even lie down outside. On balance I think it is better that these dogs come back to somewhere warm and safe and were they are understood and wait for the right home. But it can take many months for a grey to become what most people would conside a 'pet dog' to be. Sometimes, some never do. That it not there fault. They all deserve love and understanding and a sofa. Lets hope that potential new grey owners listen carefully to Ruth and read these posts before making that lifetime commitment.

We have had Danny now almost 2 months and in that time he has twice gone upstairs and pee'd all over my bed, chewed a wooden table, a windowsill and even my wooden fire surround but not once did i ever consider taking him back. All these things can be repaired or replaced. What cannot be replaced is the love that Danny brings to us, just seeing him lying stretched out on the sofa, on his back with legs in the air showing all his manly bits, the tail wagging and excitement he shows when i come down in the morning or when i get home from work and the way his eyes almost pop out of his head each time he tries some new food (it's hilarious). Everything square or wooden is now covered in bits of cloth to try and stop the chewing lol... Hopefully we will hear what the issue was with the neighbours just purely for the fact that there are so many regular readers of the website and i know it sounds silly but you do get attached to the dogs and their story especially the long stayers and it is always so great when they finally get their own sofa and dogs being returned is sad for everyone not just the people who are returning the dogs. Chin up Ruth, tomorrow is another day and you have a great bunch of people around you for support, here's to many more happy homings in 2013. Happy New Year to everyone at Daybreaks and all the lucky owners of daybreaks greys! Now off to B&Q to buy some wood filler :p

Just wan to make a plea to any prospective dogs owners- greys or any other breed - pleeeeeeeese make sure that you realise what a commitment owning a dog is and give them time to settle & adjust to their new surroundings. Disasters we have had over the years - eating half the furniture in the house, chewing watches, shoes, plants, pulling the curtains down, peeing many times on the carpet & pulling my husband over and fracturing husbands shoulder ( not all the same dog!). Did we ever send them back? No, although we did considerbit a few times! The point is you have to be patient and give them a chance. They are not disposable, they should be your friend for life. Anyway massive thanks to Ruth & the volunteers who make it all happen, and a Happy New Year to you all. x

Such a shame. I'm absolutely gutted for Ruth and everyone at Daybreaks. Everything was all ok lunchtime when I had a sneaky look at work. Was bad enough reading the Evening Mail about BDH. Its a sad situation but if the neighbours were really that unpleasant maybe the family thought the boys would be better back where they are safe and loved. They must be feeling pretty gutted at the moment. Hopefully both will find a new home soon xx
