Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
Despite the miserable weather we had several visitors to meet the dogs and find out more about homing a Greyhound. :)) All very positive! I am very grateful to Tarrika and Patric for all their help in showing people around and being very informative about our Daybreaks residents. Xxx They also fed everyone this afternoon! :)) Thanks to our Saturday walkers for braving the rain...Thanks Alan for taking Chino out for a walk after Belles training session. :)) It was also very busy on the telephone, I'm really sorry if you called and had trouble getting through to us. :(( Thanks so much to everyone who brought in donations of bedding and items for us to pop on Tiggy's fundraising page. So very kind of you. Xxx

It was lovely to speak to Theo's owner today. Fantastic to hear how he is getting on. I'm not surprised he is a very popular boy, who could resist his very handsome face and beautiful eyes! Xxx

Caesar
I’m a Sponsor Dog
Erik brought Caesar with him when he returned the van to the kennels this afternoon. Caesar looks fabulous and you wouldn't know he had any health issues at all. He is a happy and inquisitive boy and clearly adores Erik. Xxx We can not thank Erik and his family enough for everything they are doing for Caesar. As Erik mentioned the journey to the Referral centre is not an easy one and it takes all day. He gives up his time because he loves Caesar and wants more than anything a cure for his cancer so that he can hopefully find his forever home and live a long and happy life. Xxx I'm sure if Caesar could talk he would love to thank Erik and his family too! Xxx

Theo is settling into his new life really well. He has found his comfy spots, loves his food and walks and has started to play more and do his 'zoomies' in the yard and round the house! He is very friendly and affectionate towards everyone and seems to be a hit with everyone he meets! xxx

Caesar
I’m a Sponsor Dog
Update on Caesar Firstly, I want to thank you all for the continued support for Caesar, whether this is donations to Caesar’s funding page, well-wishing messages or just sending your care and love. You are all BRILLANT!!!. Yesterday was not an easy journey. I had some challenges along the way the main one for me and the dogs was the traffic jams. I also took Barney and Charlotte with me as they do like to go out and about. What none of us enjoyed was the massive traffic jams we experienced both on the M1 and M25 unfortunately both going to the treatment centre and returning home. The journey should take about 2½ hours it actually took 4+ hours in both directions so the dogs and I were very tired when we returned home at about 19.45. Enough about the journey let’s talk about Caesars treatment. We were very hopeful because photos taken two weeks ago showed a reduction in the tumour size. After I dropped Caesar off, I took Barney and Charlotte to the village for a walk and some much-needed bladder relief. We only had a bit of a walk when I received a phone call from North Downs, which was not a great sign. The vet explained to me that once Caesar was under an anaesthetic, they could examine his tongue. Unfortunately, the tumour is still there about a centimetre in size. The expectation from the treating team was that the tumour had disappeared to justify a third treatment which would target the microscopic cancer cells. Hence they would wake Caesar up and start the recovery and I could pick-up Caesar. Once I got Caesar back I had a good detailed conversation with a member of the treatment team. The GOOD news is that there are still other options available which will be considered carefully. Main objective to keep in mind is his cure and being able to rehome him into a loving home. For now keep sending Caesar your love and care as he needs it more then ever. Again, thank you so much for your support.

Charlie
I’m Homed
Very pleased with Charlie. We took him to our local again last night - his second visit. When we took him the previous time, there were no other dogs in and only a few people, as we went in with him at a time we'd hoped would be quiet and it was. Last night, we knew friends of ours were there - two couples - and the one couple's two dogs. To be fair, the one dog was the female golden doodle he'd had a walk with two weeks ago. We got to the pub and he ended up in a central area with them all. He was good to the dog he'd walked with, ignored the other that can be a bit grumbly, and then went up to start meeting the people, as he'd only met one of them before. He accepted fuss from all happily (and scratchings too). He was a bit distracted by people coming in and out of the pub, but he was quiet. He didn't settle that quickly so I eventually put a blanket down on the carpet for him and he settled. We stayed later than our friends and after they left, someone came in with a long haired terrier on an extending lead that wanted to say hello. I was a bit uncertain but cautiously let him say hello. The dog was wagging everything going and Charlie sniffed, put up with the enthusiasm and wagged his own tail in a friendly way too. Not long after that, someone else came in that we know with a female Bichon Frisse. We had been worried about these two meeting but she's a strong character. They stared at each other and after a few seconds, Charlie started backing away. Positions changed and they stared again. Charlie again backed away. They then ended up at a table behind him. When the Bichon Frisse sat near me, as she likes fuss from me too, Charlie sat down on his blanket the other side by me too, but he wouldn't face towards her. I think he'd been truly put in his place. It reminded me of how Kylie used to throw our Ben off the sofa, just by looking at him, even though he was 10kg heavier. Charlie walked there and back happily (a mile each way) and only got up overnight at 5am for a wee, then was ok til I got up around 6:15. He didn't put a paw wrong to be honest and everyone was saying what a lovely boy he is.

Roxie
Over the Rainbow Bridge
Roxie is such a pretty and joyful girl, cannot believe she has been passed by for so long. I was hoping when we went over to Daybreaks to find a little girl for Fat neck Finn she would be the one, but unfortunately, Finn is not a ladies man and was rejected or ignored by the girlies, Their rejection of him was humiliating for the big lad, so in desperation, we got him a few boys to see if he did any better with them. The best we got was indifference to several lol, but thankfully Warrior (Steve) seemed to bond with us and Finn showed no problem with that, hence Steve is now lying in Finn's bed and Finn is happy on a new one the other side of the room, Roxie your prince will come I hope very soon x

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
In contrast to last Friday, today was much quieter and calmer. This morning saw the arrival of 2 more black beauties, the very handsome Chino and pretty little Libby. They were both great for their arrival checks, and enjoyed joining the afternoon walk down the lane. Hope they have a good first night and start to settle into retired life soon. x Roxie is having some daily magnotherapy to help the healing of her injured tendon. She has got the whole process sorted now bless her - trot into the box & settle down for the session, on exit from the box, trot out for a wee and a biscuit!! This girlie is adorable, so full of fun and mischief and so very affectionate, we just cant believe that she is our longest stayer with very little interest shown in her. Fingers crossed it will soon be her time. xx It was sad we had to postpone the Mike Stewart-Lawrence concert, but plans for Tiggy's Greyt Get Together are well under way. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Daybreaks after such a long time. Your hounds are most welcome too and there will be Sosidge Bobbing and a Doggy Dip for them to have a go at, as well as light refreshment and a tombola for the hoomans. The Get Together is in the sand run on Sunday 12th September from 10.00am to 2.00pm, with parking at the Birmingham Exiles Rugby Club - it will be lovely to see old friends both 2 & 4 legged again. Well the weekend is here again, I shall raise a nice glass of chilled white wine later to welcome our newbies, toast our residents and hope they find forever sofas very soon. x Enjoy your weekend one & all, stay safe. Cheers! Angie xx

Honey (Sally)
Over the Rainbow Bridge
Bit of a long shot but wondering if there is anyone in the Daybreaks family who is looking after greyhounds at the moment. Big fawn boy who needs someone who is greyhound savvy - he is big,(very often needs to reverse out of spaces), just needs his bed, toys to cuddle, feeding, a couple of 20 min walks and generally left alone to potter around the house/garden. Ideally someone who is currently without a grey, he is fine out and about with greys but has never lived with another one in a house environment and definitely no cats. I've been let down by my arranged home stay for 31 Aug to 2 Sept so I can attend my nephew's wedding. Thanks for reading. Sue and Tom x
