The beautiful Archie has been rehomed today. Very sadly his owner became too unwell to look after him and he has been fostered for a while now. During this time he underwent an urgent dental and has thankfully recovered. Today he was signed for officially and I am so grateful to Nes and David for looking after him along with the care of Rosie and Rachel who fostered or have helped with walking. I am truly grateful to you all. x

    I’m Homed

I'd like to start by saying a massive thankyou to Ruth, Jo, Chris & Dave & all my friends at Daybreaks for my fabulous 60th birthday surprises today. I feel very spoilt and it's lovely to be a part of such a great "family". However I think I am still in denial of the fact that I have actually reached 60, it just doesn't seem right!! Anyway, we did actually get lots of work done today! The lovely Porsche went off to her forever home first thing this morning, wishing her and her new family many happy times ahead. The residents enjoyed morning & afternoon walks, and in fact the sun shone on us this afternoon! I had the pleasure of walking the gorgeous Chunk, and what an easy boy he is to walk. He is so affectionate & loving, and gives the best kisses, but absolutely hates being cooped up in his kennel bless him. Fingers crossed he soon finds his forever home. Ruth was kept busy with lots of teeth and nail customers today, and whilst she was on her knees she had a look at Lady's paw as she had been limping. Lady was such a good patient while Ruth was digging around, and she eventually managed to extract a big piece of grit from the pad. Lady is now sporting a very fetching yellow bandage, but is a lot more comfortable bless her. Well its the weekend again, and looking at the diary its going to be a busy one! Let's keep everything crossed for some red or better still green signs by Monday morning. I shall be raising a glass or two of Prosecco later to toast the boys & girls and wish for forever homes for them all soon. Whatever you are up to this weekend, stay safe - cheers!! Angie xx

A busy day today. 🙂 Coco has been reserved already! He has only just unpacked his bags! :)) So happy for him. He is a really lovely lad. Xxx Ruth found herself carrying out two unexpected pampers this afternoon. Two gorgeous, friendly Greyhounds...she also discovered the lad had corns, so they were dealt with too. 🙂 Jean who is helping us out on Thursday mornings in the office bravely volunteered to sort out the big cupboard where all the homing paperwork for every Greyhound homed from Daybreaks since opening in 2006 is stored! We did contemplate disposing of some of the very early folders...but it just didn't seem right. 🙂 Xxx Many thanks to all our walkers and volunteers today. I'm very grateful to Lee for helping with health checks and feeding this afternoon. 🙂 It's been a long time since we welcomed the Pet Blood Bank to Daybreaks. I understand for their visit next week they will be coming in their mobile unit. All visitors will be by appointment only and donations will be taken under strict Covid safety regulations. 🙂 My late Fletch was a donor and gained his five donation badge, Skip gave twice but then decided it wasn't for him. As everyone else has said it is a great thing to do. Several years ago, our Twiggy had to have a big operation and there was a donation of blood ready for her in case she needed it. Thankfully all went well and it wasn't used for her. However we were asked if we wouldn't mind it being donated to help a poorly dog in a rescue, which we were more happy to say yes. You can be sure every donation is used wisely. Xxx

We've booked Nadie in to donate blood on Tuesday. Skip can't because of the health issues he's had. Sam got retired after donating once. He was fine the first time but didn't want to after that so he was retired. Hopefully Nadie will be ok. Definitely worth trying so if you're thinking about it give it a go.

I have just booked Cooper in to make his first donation. This is such a wonderful cause, we never know if or when one of our beloved hounds may need to benefit from this. Each successful donation can save up to 4 dogs lives.....amazing. Sadly Cooper is the only one of my current hounds that can donate. Good Boy Flloyd is waiting for his vaccination and a dental so cannot. Gummers (Max) now 11 retired from donating at age 9. Sarah Scare Bear and Willow were also doners, Willow donated 16 or 17 times potentially helping up to 68 dogs!!! Sarah was not far behind, so between all 4 they have probably helped save in excess of 150 dogs! Please, if you are unsure of doing this give Pet Blood Bank a call, they will explain the process, they also ask questions about your hounds health and temperament to see if they feel it's right for your dog to do. It doesn't suit all dogs, but it is really worth considering. The PBB team are so lovely and constantly reassure the hounds donating should they need it. There is also a full health check carried out before each donation by a qualified vet, we have had one dog that I know of who they discovered had a major health issue that nobody was aware of. Due to this the dog received further tests and medication and is still around and enjoying life to the full!! Each dog donating will also receive some dog food after their donation and a doggy bag with treats and a toy in it. Please, seriously consider it. Jo x

Well, it was Denises birthday today, she kept that quiet. Happy Birthday Denise. X Many thanks to everyone for their help today. It was quite a busy day, after feeding and cleaning Ruth had interviewees come in looking for placements for the new college year for their animal welfare courses at Solihull College. Thanks to Liz_Beth, not only did she take young Mikey to the park this morning but also took Chunk to his second visit to the park in as many days. Both behaved very well. Tess met her soon to be new sister, a beautiful older girl called Freckles, it all went very well so Tess will be going home next week after the family holiday. Little Annie was also reserved and has gone out to sample life in a new home, best of luck to her. We had a very handsome new arrival today....Coco (Da Last Coconut). He is lovely and very affectionate, he does still have his coconuts which are difficult not to notice!! Once they have gone he certainly will be much lighter on the scales!!! Ruth had corns and nails to do, she very kindly did Gummers (my Max's nails) I now remember why I don't tackle them myself! We have more viewings booked and some homings over the next few days, so it's looking good for the inmates, fingers crossed for some more red and green signs. As always, stay safe and well all. Jo x

Chunk came for a walk with me to Elmdon Park today. I can certainly understand why he already has so many admirers with his beautiful blue coat. He was fine with the dogs we met in the park, but he is a bit unsure of push bikes and lorries whizzing past on the A45. I can't say I blame him with the latter! He's small for a boy and loves his cuddles. I'm sure he won't be waiting too long for his forever home xx

Mikey is an absolute dreamboat. His coat is so shiny and he has such a handsome face. He came for a nice long walk with me around Elmdon Park today. He was perfect with other dogs and took it all in his stride. He loves being out and his head is constantly held high looking around at his new environment. I am sure he will be a dog that is up for many adventures and good times with whoever is lucky enough to take him home xx
