It was good to see our friends from the Pet Blood Bank today. It has been a long time! Tess, "Younger" Mikey and "older" Mikey became donors. They all had a great time and loved all the extra attention they were given! They came away with Blood Donor packs to take with them when they go to their new homes. I understand older Mikey made sure everyone had clean hands before he donated! :)) Well done to the pet dogs who came along to donate today. 🙂 We are hoping the Pet Blood Bank will be able to start to visit us more regularly now the Covid restrictions have been lifted. If you are interested in your dog becoming a donor please give them a call them on 01509 232 222 for more information. It was a very hot day again but we managed to keep the dogs quite cool in the kennels with lots of fans. 🙂 Thanks so much to everyone for your help today. 🙂 Thanks to Alan and Declan for doing a warehouse run for us. Alan also brought chocolate donuts with him! :)) Three new arrivals are due in tomorrow! Xxx

Our little pocket rocket gave blood today. We're so proud of her. When booking her in they asked if she'd happily be led away from us. Yes. Does she like treats? YES. Does she like people? Too right. Today she proved all of that. When they opened the door out she trotted with her red PBB bandana as if to say, look what I've just done. She had a quiet day at home - roaching a lot so we know she was happy. Hopefully she'll continue to be happy to donate and we'll go every 8 weeks or so. If she doesn't want to again then we're proud of what she's done.

Cooper came to visit the Pet Blood Bank today. When we arrived he was very cautious about their mobile unit. He came into the kennels and was quite happy to have lots of love and fuss from Auntie Kate. We went out to the PBB unit and he was again very unsure. He even turned down treats, never before has he refused anything! He did however eventually accept some cheese. He hopped into the mobile unit and I went back to the kennels as I couldn't go in with him. About 10 minutes later he was brought back into the kennels, apparently he climbed under their table and wouldn't come back out until they opened the door to bring him back to me. He then very happily devoured every treat given! He still got his goody bag with treats, a toy and a sticker in it. Such a Mommy's boy. We will try again, but only when I am able to go in with him for moral support and to give him some confidence. Well done to all the hounds who managed to donate today. X

I have to comment re the hounds who raced in Canada and then it appears were shipped off to Pakistan. I am really upset by the lives some of these beautiful gentle Greys end up living. Many are treated as commodities and moneymakers. Thank goodness laws have tightened up some in this country and thank goodness for places like Daybreaks xx

Today Belle became a blood donor at the pet blood bank visiting Daybreaks. All the staff said she was the perfect patient. She came out sporting a life saver bandana along with a bag of goodies. She enjoyed a pigs ear treat reward before a nice snooze. We are so very proud of her, the list of achievements keeps getting longer, Belle is a super star hound xx

Caro, we have the same problem with our boy Douggie, he is very slender and has always been a nightmare at eating, I have tried everything, this last few months he got really thin so we tried him on tripe and now he's eating really well and is slowly putting a bit of weight on, but I do think some greyhounds are naturally slender and no matter what you do that's just how they are. I have always put grated cheese in my greys meals, helps keep their weight up and they love it. Good luck xx

Summer returned today! Phew very warm!! Libby went off to the vets first thing this moring. Thanks so much to Sue for taking her. I picked her up this evening. She was a little tired but managed to eat her dinner when she got back. 🙂 Hopefully she will feel a lot better tomorrow. Coco went off to his new home 🙂 What a lovely lad he is! Happy with a very waggy tail. Do hope all goes well for him and his new family. Xxx Many thanks to Yvonne, Myra, Dave, Louisa and Lee for all their help today. All the dogs enjoyed moring walks. As it was a little hot this afternoon most of the dogs went in the sand run for a short time. They enjoyed some time off lead doing their own thing. :)) Xxx Xxx

Just a question does any one else have issues with getting any weight on their grey. Firstly Penny is well, has a good appetite, wormed and has a lovely glossy coat. She carries a lot of muscle but no fat at all I would like see her fill out a little bit. Two meals a day Burns plenty of treats and even pigs ears. She was spayed about a month ago and the vet didn’t mention her weight.

Thanks for letting me know, at least he was loved and had a happy life. I had traced 2 of the other siblings, they were sent to Canada to race. I found this on Greyhound data. The one had a litter so Lennox was a grandad too. Sadly recently I went back onto the Data and no trace of these boys anymore, apart from them going to Pakistan ....

I’m a Sponsor Dog
I, like so many have cried bucket loads of tears for this gorgeous boy. I echo what has been said about the love, care and support he is receiving from Erik and his family. Who knows how much time Caesar has, but we can all rest assured that however long or short it may be he will live life to the full with his wonderful family. Thanks to everyone who has supported with donating to his treatment, sadly as we know it was not successful but he was given the chance. Thank you so much. Xxx
