Had a fantastic time in the sand run today. Purdy and Zeus brought an old staffy friend who had a great time. Also met Totsi he is lovely and I obviously went in for a cuddle with my favourite Topsy. Oh I do hope she finds a forever home soon she is such a darling ????

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

The reign of this little lady, our Queen Kylie aka Bubble, Boo Bear, Boo Boo, Kyles, Little Donkey and many others, came to an end yesterday, Saturday 24 July 2021. Her back legs were getting very weak and she didn't seem right so we took her to the vets to be checked, and especially after a potential tumour was found under her jaw, and a 4kg weight loss since May last year, we decided it was time to set her free. She made an amazing age and was a wonderful, and forceful, addition to our other greyhounds, Lucy and Ben. She walked beautifully with Lucy and easily matched her step, until around a year ago, although Lucy was 2 years younger than her. She had Ben wrapped round her paws too and, albeit that he was a bit of a softie anyway, she could throw him off the sofa to let her on, just by staring at him from across the room and he was almost 10kg bigger than her. She shared several holidays with us all in The Lakes, travelling up to Scotland twice, and Tenbury Wells and had days out to see Andy's parents in Llandudno. And, living by a canal, she had access to many lovely walks from home too. She was a loving little girl and liked human attention and she was often a little ray of sunshine. Her tail hardly stopped wagging prior to the last few months. We initially took her as a foster, but she decided she was staying and we thought if we were lucky, we might have her for three, maybe four, years. She was with us just under 6 3/4 years in the end, and other than her nail issue, and getting bitten by a Staffie 3 years ago, she didn't have any problems. Don't overlook taking on an older dog. They have so much to give, as Kylie proved time and again. Saying that, she did give so much that I think I'll need a younger dog next time to live up to her! Thanks Ruth and Daybreaks for providing a haven for Kylie - and the other four Famous Five to land - and for letting Kylie join us. There will never be another quite like Kylie, I'm sure ??

    I’m Homed

It was a lot cooler today. :)) It was a quiet day for visitors and the sand run was quiet too. Thanks so much to Angie and Michael for coming in first thing to clean kennels and feed the dogs. :)) It was just Patric and myself this morning. We managed to get one walk done before he had to go home. I took the other four residents for a stroll around the sand run. Which they enjoyed. Many thanks to Patric for his help, all the dogs got a groom and teeth cleaned. 🙂 It was lovely to see Athos for a nail trim this morning. He was not very keen to have them done! 🙂 xx Many thanks to Gill who came in this afternoon. All the residents got a second walk. A lovely couple who had brought in some beddding were more than happy to go for a walk! 🙂 Gorgeous Jag came in for nail clipping too. It was lovely to hear how well he is doing. We had a surprise viist from Casey. Jeremy brought him for his nails to be trimmed too. We found the best position for Casey to have his nails to be done was high in the air! Xx Topsy was outside in the kitchen run for most of the day. She really didn't want to go back into her kennel and took a lot of persuading and special treats for her to move. She is a very sweet girl. Do hope she will soon find her forever home. There is a viewing booked for tomorrow....hoping one of our lovely boys and girls might find themselves a home. Xxx

My post about yesterday seems to have disappeared - is it someone's way of telling me I say too much!!!! Must confess I can't remember everything I said but in summary Friday at Daybreaks was:- Quiet and nice to be cooler, for the doggies & us. Fun to watch the residents tackle their frozen sardine treats in their own individual ways. Able to get some cleaning done as being cooler meant we had more energy AND Lovely to meet our newbies. I enjoyed my glass of wine too! Stay safe one & all. Angie x

Well Penny or possibly Joe has been having fun at my expense again, I have been waiting for a detailed quote for my house which I need to read carefully and sign I am sure as fellow hound slaves you can guess the next bit it was like confetti no one is owning up even with the threat of treat rationing!

Oh, Lisa I am so very sorry to see this. He was indeed a very special boy. Absolutely heartbroken for you, it is such a very difficult decision to have to make. He is now running fast and pain free at the bridge with all of our beloved hounds who have also crossed over. He will be well looked after by all that have sadly passed before and will shine bright upon you always, until you meet again. Xx

I know a lot of you have seen on the Facebook group but sadly we said goodbye to our best beautiful boy Sully on Tuesday. He had slowly been losing the use of his back legs and having falls, he was a brave boy but unfortunately was in pain so we let him go to sleep. I hope his love of his life Isla and brother from the same litter Eoin (who sadly went a similar way last year with bone cancer) were waiting for him at the rainbow Bridge. Sully was an absolute perfect mommy's boy right to the end. Never put a foot wrong over the years, apart from that one time he had a little mishap when we had a real Christmas tree in the house ???? he was very embarrassed. He has loved our children and been an excellent role model for Tinker and our other dogs. We miss him so much xx

Hot again! Ruth found a portable aircon unit to put in the kennel block, it worked a treat! :)) We managed to take the dogs out for a short walk this morning. Wet coats on they were kept nice and cool. I'm sure they enjoyed being able to get out of the kennels for a break. Xxx I met our latest two arrivals Annie and Totsi, both gorgeous! Many thanks to Alan and Declan for going to the warehouse today. It was hot work! Xxx Thanks so much for everyone's help today. We really appreciate you putting up with the very hot conditions and coming to see our lovely dogs. :))

    I’m Homed

A cooler start to the day, as the cloud was so low it was overcast so we grabbed the opportunity to get the hounds out for a much needed walk. They arrived back as the Sun was beginning to push through the cloud. Thanks as always to our Wednesday walkers, to Denise, Chris and Dave for all their help today. Dave gave the car park a good tidy up. Little Miss Topsy Turvy had a trip to the vet's for her annual booster, she was such a good girl. There were two new arrivals, very pretty Annie and handsome boy Totsi (this will get confusing with a Topsy and a Totsi in the kennels). Their trainer told me there were tears at home before he brought them in, unfortunately he couldn't keep them himself as he has others at home. They are both lovely and enjoyed playing with a ball and the paddling pools in the outdoor feeding runs. This afternoon was just too hot for the dogs to go out (and us!!), so it was playtime, wetting down time and fuss time. Tickets are on sale for our first social event in over 18 months, tickets are £7 each, there is a bar for pre show and interval drinks. The monies raised will be going to help fund Caesar's treatment. Just call the kennels to book your tickets. Try and stay safe, well and cool. X
