Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
We had a sad start to the day with the discovery that one of our chickens had passed away during the night. :(( She was an ex-battery hen and has enjoyed a happy life for the last twelve months being free to do as she pleased and laying eggs when she wanted. Denise has brought them all sorts of different sorts of food to sample and made sure they have everything they need. Rest in peace little lady. Xxx It was another incredibly hot day today. We decided as yesterday it was too hot to take the dogs out for walks. They all came out and spent time in the runs and enjoyed treats. New lad Charlie arrived early afternoon. He is a very handsome and happy lad. He enjoyed his lunch...his trainer told us he likes to get his meals on time and will tell you when they are due! We popped him into the top red kennel so he will be on the first sitting for his breakfast and dinner! :)) Xxx It was a quiet day for visitors but there is always something to be done at the kennels. I am so grateful to Yvonne, Gloria and Myra for all their help, and hard work. Xxx

Finn (Phoenix)
I’m Homed
Hi All - Monday update on Phoenix aka Finn 🙂 He's doing super well. He's very relaxed around home - he's following us a bit less because he's a bit more confident this is his forever home. He has three private sleeping spots, under the TV, in the bedroom, and when we're working, right between our desks 🙂 He's a chow hound for sure but is already learning there is mum and dad food and Finn food, which are two separate things 😉 He's being really great already but he needs the odd reminder. We have two parks next to the house but we're only using one atm so he gets to know his way to and from. Favourite toys: purple llama and licking plate thing. Snacks - treats from you guys plus the odd shape 😉 He's now world famous as my Chinese friend's little girl in Tianjin has fallen in love with him and sent him voice messages 🙂 Our friends and colleagues in the US are all also Finn fans... I'll post more pics on Facebook. We cannot thank you all enough for taking such good chttps://daybreakstrust.co.uk/dog/2314#are of him before he came to us!

Billy was a very good boy having his teeth cleaned today. He didnt actually get off his bed and stayed laying on his side so teeth cleaning was a very casual affair. (Well it was a bit hot). Hes a very loving happy boy xxxx

Daybreaks Diary!

It was so very hot today and by 9.30 we decided walks would be abandoned, even if we used cool coats the heat was too much for not only the dogs but for us humans to bear. So, out came the paddling pools, sheets were laid out in the feeding runs and soaked with water so it was much cooler for the inmates. They all had regular 'wet downs' to help keep them cool. We left tonight with the fans on, blinds down and windows open the the kennel blocks. Thanks to Denise and Dave for their help today. Dave helped clean the back area of the kennels and Ruth's treatment room with Ruth. It looks fab. Denise was on chicken house duty! Twirl, now Willow was signed up officially today , such a petite pretty girl and has a very handsome brother Alfie who was not exactly impressed with having a pamper session. Lorna had several bookings, its a bit like Marmite, some love it some hate it!!! I have to say they all felt very soft and smelled lovely. Tina had several Reiki sessions booked for today, both for two legged and four legged clients, she was very kindly raising funds for Caesars treatment. Thanks so very much to Tina for doing this, I think next time I will give it a try, it was very interesting to watch and even came with some very interesting sound effects (sorry Tina)!!! It's going to be very hot over the next few days, so, please take care when walking your hounds, early morning and late evening are the best time to venture out (I know most of you will know this, but feel it still needs to be said). Remember, if you place the back of your hand on the pavement and it is hot this could burn your dogs paws. Please don't leave your hound in the car for even the shortest period of time, heat can be fatal in just a few minutes. Another week is upon us, we are due to have some new arrivals, so watch this space. Fingers crossed that the homings will begin to be more frequent. So, as ever, stay safe, stay well and keep yourselves and your beloved hounds cool. X

Caesar
I’m a Sponsor Dog
Caesar has had an eventful couple of days. On Friday we left home at 06.00 to go to North Downs Specialist referral centre. As he is a young boy he took it in his stride. We arrived at 09.00 after a good easy drive. We took a picture of him as he was taken in. The wait was long but early afternoon I spoke with the vet, all had gone well and he agrees with me that his tumour had grown 🙁 When the nurse came with Caesar, she mentioned she was surprised how quick he had recovered from anaesthesia and was hungry for food. We quickly prepared to go back home. He settled in the car quickly just rested. The journey was quite long the first 50 miles it was traffic jams. We tried to have a break and Caesar was already so much perked up, head raised etc. We arrived back home around 18.45 the 3 hour journey had become a 4-5 hour journey. On Saturday morning he was ready to go and have his walk and have fun. That is the benefit of him being a young boy. He slept a bit more during the day but honestly, as the nurse told me he be drowsy for the next day or two. Not Caesar, he wanted to come with me to the Kennels but left him home to relax. In two weeks’ time we will need to do the journey again for his second lot of treatment. Thanks to everyone who has made this possible for him, you are all amazing 🙂

Barney
I’m Homed
It has been a while since my last comment. Since Thursday it has been very hectic with taking Caesar to Surrey. Unfortunately, on Thursday, as I was picking up the van I had a freak accident with Barney. As he was excited looking at the cats in the car park and me closing the car door, I unfortunately caught his tail in the door. Took him to the vet and he had one third of his tail amputated on Friday. He is doing well as if nothing has happened, I am still kicking myself for what has happened. Kate called me tail basher yesterday which my wife found very funny, hurts my pride. But what is more important then my pride is that Barney is doing well and happily relaxing. Yes Barney, finds the cats very interesting. He is great with other Greyhounds, but he still does not understand that there is such a thing as other dog breeds. If we could, we would keep Barney. In fact my four year old daughter would want to keep Barney and Caesar. Barney is such a character. He makes you laugh, cry, be amazed and all the other emotions. We were astonished that he has worked out how to open the self closing gate when it is on a latch, we seen him either use his nose, or takes hold of the bars opens it and then uses his nose to get through. Our little Einstein, such a clever boy. I we leave something on the table he is very quick to take it. In short make a mistake and Barney is there as an opportunist! :-). He loves playing specially with squeaky toys, enjoys being outside and going for walks. He is probably not your first time Greyhound owner material. If you have a sense of humour, have time to play and are able to walk him short but regularly during the day, you could have a brilliantly clever, calm and caring dog here.

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
It was a great day today. :)) By midday not only Phoenix but Leo too were on the way to their new homes! I have everything crossed for them both that all will work out for them this time! Xxx It was sad Millie's foster home didn't work out. Her Foster Mum was very upset. We are so grateful to all the family for giving her a try. She is a super little girl. She must be feeling very unsettled at the moment. 🙁 Xxx It was good to see Barney, he didn't seem too concerned about his injured tail. He was such a good boy. We told Erik that as he has broken Barney the least he could do was adopt him! 🙂 I'm sure he would but he has his own lovely girl Charlotte and is also taking care of Caesar for us. Barney is a happy friendly boy who would brighten up anyone's day! Xxx It was incredulity hot today. The dogs all did so well coping with the heat. They all went out for a moring walks. This afternoon Dave filled the paddling pools up again. As last night all the fans are on in the kennels to try and keep our boys and girls cool. Due to the forecast for more very hot weather, the photoshoot that was scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed. Sharon will let us have a new date as soon as possible. Thanks so much to everyone for your help today. It was a manic morning! Xxx My two are currently lying stretched out in the lounge by the fan. :)) Xxx I did have the Fench doors open up until a few minutes ago when the "bitey" things started to come in! :)) Xxx

Oh bless you poor barney. These greyhound tails do get in the way, jet frequently had 'happy tail' I really don't know why it's called that, it should be called 'stressed out owner tail' especially when it happens in a hotel and paints the corridor! Xxx

Imagine, if you will, for 28 seconds looking at the photos on this page , you will see a sweet nervous dog and if you were to meet her in public you would probably see the same dog , but in private I have a looney and I can't get over how much I love her
