We went to visit Spirit today with our little boy, this little gentle soul stole our hearts as he has many others. We couldn't not offer him a home and reserved him on the spot. Had to drag myself away because I didn't want to leave him. Staff were amazing, we can't wait to bring him home????

A big cuddle for River tonight. :)) Thanks so much to Norman for taking her for a visit to the park today. Xxx This afternoon we needed to take her out of her kennel for some work to be done on the wiring. River was having a well earned snooze and didn't want to move...instead she rolled on to her back, legs in the air and waited for a tummy rub! Several tummy rubs later, she decidied to come out for a treat! :)) She is a very happy young lady who will make a lovely friend and companion. Xxx

Rivers trainer has told us that she is a very loving girl who can be bouncy and loves people. Having taken her to Elmdon Park today I can confirm those comments are 100% spot on. She travelled quietly in the car and when first meeting small dogs did get quite bouncy. However the more time we spent walking she became accustomed to other breeds and at the end of the walk was snuggling up to two Golden Retrievers. Perhaps some caution may still be needed at first with very small dogs but I'm sure in time she will become used to them also. Although enthuastic on the lead she doesn't pull excessively. She absolutely loves affection and hopefully that loving home will soon arrive for this very attractive brindle girl

    I’m Homed

I had a special visit from Kevin today all the way from Scotland! This was the fella who I drove all the way to Devon a couple of years ago to live with a lady who needed a cat friendly boy to arrive and I was told he was a bit too big! Anyway he has landed on his paws and it was absolutely wonderful to have cuddles with him again. He had a burst in the sand run and then jumped back in the car on his travels again. He and his wonderful owners have made me smile today xxx

Our lovely Nat is finding it hard to settle with us at the moment. Think she is missing her previous kennels, and her trainer. She is a lovely girl, very gentle and affectionate, loves people. She is just not happy to be in her kennel. What she needs is a sofa with her name on it and someone to snuggle up to. Fingers crossed she won't have to wait too much longer. Xxx

A special day at the kennels...lots of Valentines Day Pampers! It was great to see so many ex Daybreaks Guests and their families. :)) Laura and Michael were kept busy all day, and exhausted by the time their last client left, smelling and looking beautiful! Xxx It has proved so popular that we have another Valenetines Day Special next Saturday. Xxx Our lovely Pan, now called Rocky came in for a health check. He looks fab and was so very happy. He left looking very handsome in a new foxy fleece. :)) It was so nice to see his great family again. Xxx Poor little Winnie started limping this morning. 🙁 We think she has something in one of her pads...Jess and I tried to see what it was but without success. We are hoping Ruth will be able to sort her out tomorrow. Xxx Winnie is such a sweet girl, hoping her forever home will soon come along. Xxx Sarah took enrichment for the dogs to another level today! She recreated Stonehenge on a licki mat using various dog treats. :)) It was amazing and it was instantly recognisable. It was a shame to see it get eaten! Sarah is hoping to become a vet, but I'm sure she could also be an artist! Xxx :)) Thanks so much to all of our fabulous volunteers for your help today. Xxx. A special mention to Diane and Caroline, Saturday regulars...they are recovering from Covid. Lots of love to you both. Xxx

    I’m Homed

Hello- is me Chas, has been a few interesting weeks since my Auntie Kate kissed my head and told me I was a good boy!! So I has been staying wif Joe - he also knows Auntie Ruth and Auntie Kate ! Amazing. I have been learning all kinds of things - mainly don’ts - dont steal out washing baskets, don’t jump over the fence, don’t climb over the fence, don’t eat next door but ones cat - is very fluffy new Muvva says it will give me indigestion. So I has been eating my dinner and my breakfast I has eaten Chippys they are good, also Joe and I shares Pizza crust with new Muvva. I am a gentle boy when I takes a treat. Joe and I did have a couple of shouting matches and it wasn’t my fault but Joe did manage to bite his own face ! He put his tooth through his lip so Muvva knows it was him !!. We are quite friendly and both likes to follow Muvva everywhere she is going but she says we is a lot of greyhound to be in the way. Still she needs us to make sure she is safe so we will carry on being there for her. I am pretty sure that I will stay here the only problem is the stairs- I did sneak up on the second night but came down with much noise and drama so not sure they are safe for me! Joe runs up and down but I am just waiting at the bottom. New Muvva says my legs is toooo long for stairs and I am toooo heavy to be carried anywhere!! . Lubs to all Chas . PS New Muvva is going to put a couple of pictures on Facebook. Xxx

    I’m Homed

EXCITING NEWS! Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is one of the biggest charities in the country. As well as the great work they do at their 3 homing centres, they also support smaller rescues and animal welfare charities around the country with their Animal Partnerships programme. This programme offers both virtual and practical help and support in the form of online courses and seminars, telephone access to advice from Battersea’s team of behaviourists and Vets, and practical help in the form of deliveries of food, bedding and other necessities should rescues and charities experience difficulties in obtaining supplies themselves. There is also the opportunity to promote dogs that have been at the rescue for a long time, or have specific homing challenges, to a wider audience in the hope of finding the perfect home. The Trustees are delighted to announce that following a visit to the kennels by ladies from the Partnerships team last November, who were very impressed with the kennels and the work being done there, Daybreaks Trust is now an official member of the scheme. We look forward to working together for the benefit of the amazing Greyhounds that come into our care. Angie x

    I’m Homed

I took Spirit to Elmdon Park today and soon realised why Kate loves this lad so much. He was a pleasure to walk with. Gentle on the lead and no problems with meeting other breeds or people. Sadly the dog in the home he initially went to was too wary of a new arrival so a permanent homing wasn't practical. I'm sure this wasn't anything to do with Spirits character and this very gentle and for a boy quite dainty dog is more than ready for his permanent home

  • Penny (Emer)

    I’m Homed

Little late on this comment. We took Penny on her first long (ish) distance trip in the car yesterday. We decided to have a day trip to the beach in Weston-Super-Mare. Weather was typical British... windy, windy and cloudy! Penny was really good in the car, we were nervous (for her) more than she was. She travelled really well. Stopped a couple of times to stretch her legs. We got there and she was straight out of the car like the starting line of a race! When she got on the beach... that was another story! She was flying around loving every single minute of it. She had her jumper on, harness, lead and was not bothered about the wind at all. Us on the other hand were wrapped up loads!! We had a good walk round for a while, even remanised in a spot where we had lunch with Cash which brought back memories that we cherish! Miss her everyday. Whilst walking round she had a Daybreaks bib on and we had people coming up to us asking about her, the breed and the charity. We even met someone with 2 greyhounds and she said she had her first greyhound from Daybreaks back in 2007... from Ruth of all people!! We had a good chat about how grey DB are too of course!! The journey back was no different to the journey there. All perfectly fine. Got home and she had dinner and was flat out for the count! Can't wait for more adventures with that girl...

    I’m Homed

I took Winnie to Elmdon Park on Friday. She was very excited to be going out and we set off at quite a pace. Once in the park, she didn't really know which way to look first. It was all very new to her and other dogs were quite interesting to her. She is still a baby and has plenty of time to get used to everything that life has to offer post racing. She has a lovely soft coat and I think she may have springs in her legs!! Here's hoping she isn't waiting long for her forever home xx

    Over the Rainbow Bridge

I am absolutely heartbroken to read of Joshy's passing just after he became so settled. I asked Santa to help him find Joshy a permanent home. And Joshy's wish came true. I remember the call from Hannah months ago saying she wanted to foster him again and she was there in half an hour. He was so loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Hannah, thank you for all you did for him and all the love you and your family gave. x
