Simon and I went into kennels yesterday morning to give Jo and Ruth the day off although apologies to Ruth for the various messages and phone calls! Very grateful to Chris and Rob for going in to do the chickens. On arrival the car park and back yard was like an ice rink so we put down some salt. We then set to work tidying up the back kitchen and cleaning the kennel area to freshen it up ready for the new arrivals due in today. They are going to be lovely and snug with the underbed heating. It's going to be fantastic having Hotel Daybreaks full of residents again. We had a donation of blankets and some purchases of donated items, thank you. Don't forget that an appointment system is in place for all donations, foodcollections, viewings, groomings, nail clippings, sand run etc. LAST MORNING FOR ENTRIES FOR THE PET SHOW Don't forget that the pet show closes at midday today. We are overwhelmed at the number of fantastic entries and can't wait to announce the total raised. Due to the success of this show and how much fun everyone seems to have had, we're considering running another show at Easter with some different classes. We may even run some mini shows before then. Watch this space. Happy new year and here's to lots of successful rehomings and a better year generally. Lynne and Simon x

I'm gutted that I don't. I have a very talented friend who has knitted some beautiful coats for the kennel dogs that I will drop off in the new year (when covid allows!) But think we'd be too hot and itchy in wool pjs! Xxx

I would like to say a very heartfelt thanks to everyone who posted such beautiful words, comments and poems following the heart breaking loss of Willow. I am thankful that she was warm and on her bed surrounded by her family, although very poorly we did not expect her passing to be so soon. Se celebrated her 10th birthday on Christmas eve, ate a small Christmas dinner and we thought she was turning a corner. Sadly not. It is very much appreciated to know we have such a loving caring greyhound community. Thank you all. Jo xxx

So I had a dream, I had gone to the kennels to buy some pjs, not for Florence but for me! They were available in a Christmas red and a lovely blue. Long sleeved the top had a Christmas tree of greyhounds in various colours, 8 in total facing each other in pairs and looking up as if waiting for a treat! They stood on each other’s backs getting smaller with a star on top, there were other smaller stars placed randomly on the cotton jersey top. The cotton bottoms had individual greyhounds and scattered stars. They came in all sizes, even super fat to fit me. Kate was modelling a red pair beautifully! Wish I had the talent to make them. Xxx

Considering we have no dogs on site currently, I was kept very busy at the kennels yesterday with phone calls, post, emails, tidying and playing with the visitors to the sand run!!!! Sadly Trooper came back to the kennels - this is hopefully temporary - so he came home with me - he is such an amazing good boy! Today is just as busy - we have a big team of fabulous volunteers and we are moving the Daybreaks feathered girls, general tidying and sorting of all the donated items and much more - we are NEVER bored!!!!
