Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
Another bitterly cold day and a fairly empty diary, only 2 sand run bookings. That quickly turned into 4, food collection appointments, collections of items from Tiggys fundraiser and a viewing for Scooby! The phone line and internet were working, a big relief after two days of off and on! Many thanks to Nick who is currently fostering Scooby for bringing him to the kennels to meet his prospective new family, they totally fell for him and have reserved him. Well done Scooby Doo! Dave and Lynne set to work sorting the outdoor feeding runs to make them look more festive and sorted more items in our storage shutter. Huge thanks to Simon for reinforcing the treat trolley, it was very wobbly under the weight of all of the lovely natural treats we have on offer as well as the Christmas goodies. Hopefully, this has done the trick and won't be collapsing any time soon! Calanders and ostrich bones are selling very quickly, so get in soon to avoid disappointment. Well.....with lockdown coming to an end on Wednesday who knows what will happen. So as always, stay safe and stay well. X

Scooby
I’m Homed
Scooby’s 3rd foster week has got better and better. His weekday routine continued with a steady walk, eat, sleep, lookaround pattern. Happy in the house and garden. Then the weekend; first a Friday park visit - meeting a nice gentleman, walking with another dog and saying hello to many more. Then a Saturday sand run, mixing slow sniffs with a quick blast up and down. Then a Sunday surprise, a new family walked and talked with Scooby and have reserved Scooby into their home. Scooby’s now resting for the adventure ahead.

It was great to see Penny this morning. 🙂 She is a very bright, happy girl. A lovely soft coat, beautiful eyes and I love her ears! Hoping she will find her forever home soon. In the meantime she is being spoilt rotten by Angie and Michael. 🙂 Xxx

Two of our boys who are presently out on foster visited the kennels today, Scooby and Ronnie. It's been a while since I saw them, they both looked gorgeous and are doing great in their foster homes. Xx They came to the kennels as someone was interested in meeting them. Sadly they were unable to keep the appointment....which was a shame because both boys are fabulous! However they each had a play in the sand run which they loved. Xxx Thank you so much to everyone who has bought a calendar, I know Ruth has been very busy taking orders and sending them out. 🙂 The Ostrich bones are proving very popular too. 🙂 Seana popped it today with some of her lovely crackers. Xxx We are so grateful for all her hard work! 🙂 Xxx Thanks so much to everyone for your continued support for Daybreaks and the wonderful Greyhounds in so many ways during very trying times. You are all fantastic. :)) Xxx

Penny

Penny can highly recommend the JR Pet Products Three Bird Roast Christmas gift set! She sampled the Duck pate in a kong this afternoon which kept her occupied for 20 minutes straight - then she was so exhausted that she just had to have a snooze!! This lovely lady is still looking for her forever home, she is a delight to be around, quiet and placid, although she definitely has a cheeky side just waiting to emerge! She loves food - but although she will come and have a very loud sniff when we're preparing food, or eating at the table - she does not pester or try to steal, and will eventually just take herself off to her bed when nothing is forthcoming!! Her time with us is coming to an end and we would love for her to have another home to go to rather than find herself back in a kennel. Although she is a good girl on her own, I think she would be happy to share her home with a Greyhound friend, as she sometimes just needs a little bit of a confidence boost. Penny you are gorgeous, there has been much soul searching in the Scholey household this past week - but we honestly can't keep her. Our wish for this little sweetheart is a forever home sooner rather than later, and we are more than happy to speak to anyone who is interested in her to pass on any information. xxx

YUMMIES FOR SALE: Despite there sadly being no Christmas Fayre this year and with very much needed fundraising events all being cancelled I have made some crackers - similar to last year. Owing to repeat custom (which was very unexpected but so gratefully received) the majority have been sold but there are still a limited number available. There are 12 for sale containing a small bag of the famous "Joe & Seph's" popcorn (various flavours, vegan & gluten free) plus a House of Dorchester chocolate (famous since 1963!). There are also 18 for sale containing a beauty product from the very luxurious L'Occitane, Sanctuary Spa & other well known brands plus a moreish chocolate reindeer or snowman from Lindt. What's not to like??? They will be heading to a beauty room at Love Hair, Love Beauty in Harborne for sale next week but if anyone is interested please contact me on 07880 894634 and I can text you a photo and either deliver (in Solihull area) or mail out, at my own cost, of course. Again, due to the fabulous support from people last year I have been asked if Christmas Cakes and Mince Pies are making a reappearance. I am hoping to make 4 small 6" cakes (should be plenty for around 8 people) and mince pies (sugar free so much lighter). These will be split between the kennels and the beauty room (where both will have samples available so you can try before you buy if you are a new customer). These items can also be sent out in a well wrapped box parcel. It would be wonderful to hear from people who do not live in the Midlands.....why should you miss out..... move to Solihull!!! Thank you in advance for reading and considering my wares. It would be great to hear from someone and I know Ruth and the team are keeping their fingers and toes crossed for everything to sell. Keep safe everyone and from Teddy, Fergal (plus all my rescued baby boys in Heaven) we wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS and masses of hope for a more stable 2021. THANK YOU again. SEANA xx

We had internet issues this morning which meant we had no telephone line. Jo still had the telephone calls diverted to her mobile from the day before and I am very grateful to her for answering the calls from home on her day off! Xxx Because of our technical problems it meant our cats and the chickens had late breakfasts! I think they forgave us!:) Alan and Declan went off to the warehouse. 🙂 We have plenty of food in stock, should you need anything. Richard and Shirley did more work around the kennels, thanks so much to you all. Xxx We received a big box of Ostrich bones this afternoon and a supply of Beautiful Joes Dog Treats. We also still have some lovely pure treats Christmas gifts. Why not treat your four legged friends to something special for Christmas. Xxx As Angie said earlier the 2021 Calendars have arrived at last! They are lovely with some great photos of former Daybreaks residents. My Mom has been waiting to send a couple off to my sister and niece all the way to Australia! :)) Xxx A couple of our foster boys and girls have viewings over the weekend. All organised safely. If there is anyone interested in one of those currently out on foster please call us and we can arrange for you to meet them. :)) Fingers crossed they will all soon be in forever homes. We have had several calls from lovely people who have decided make a donation to Daybreaks instead of sending out Christmas cards this year. Thank you all so very much. Xxx There are still more difficult times ahead for everyone. Please all stay safe and well. We are hoping we can continue to find homes for the beautiful Greyhounds waiting to come into the kennels. Xxx

What a terrible parent I am! I took Sarah Scare Bear on trial 7 years ago on 24 November, I have missed her gotcha on trial day :((( In my defence I have been preoccupied with her diagnosis of leukaemia at the end of August which came out of the blue with a routine pre op blood test. I haven't posted about this previously. There have been several occasions when I have thought I was losing her, she is a fighter and after regular blood tests, some ok results and some not so good, today I received the news that things were looking better, she is bright and happy and thankfully eating better than she was and has started to put some weight back on, she is even barking and asserting her authority on anyone who stands in her way. I know that this will not go on forever but at 12 years old I am grateful for every day I have with her. Fivelands have been absolutely amazing and I cant thank Christian enough. For anyone who doubts taking out pet insurance don't think just do it. On a lighter note the calendars are now on sale, they are greyt, the slimline are in a slightly different format to the larger ones this year, so take a look and place your orders (oh, and by the way my Sarah is miss August (courtesy of Sharron Alexandra photography).

Penny
I’m Homed
Penny has had another good day - the glorious, if blooming cold, weather meant we had a lovely walk around the lakes this morning, more new territory for her and her amazing ears to explore!! She is being such a good girl - we have learned not to rush her as surprisingly she is a little bit unsure at times, but letting her take things at her own pace reaps great rewards. She had a great play with a toy this afternoon - throwing it around and giving it a real good chew - until it squeaked, well that shocked her and her face was a picture!! Stifling giggles we let her carry on, and she duly started chewing and playing, until it squeaked again - well that was it!! She genuinely couldn't work out where the noise was coming from and thought discretion was the better part of valour and retired to her bed!!! xx

Evening all! Bids on Tiggy's Tinseltime Auction are going well, and some new items have recently been added so why not pop over to Facebook and take a look? https://fb.me/e/2DskQkbXp 2021 Calendars are now in stock and are selling well, they are available from the kennels or via the online shop. If you plan on visiting the kennels please remember to phone ahead and make an appointment - we must all do our bit to stay safe and try to get this awful virus under control. The online dog show is taking shape and we are so excited to see photos of doggies and other pets of all shapes and sizes! Huge thanks to Lynne Male for organising - it is great that technology means we are still able to have fundraising events for our boys & girls. Stay safe and well everyone. Angie xx

It was a very chilly start to the day! 🙂 Yvonne and I kept warm by keeping busy! 🙂 Angie has already mentioned Penny poped in to meet the cats but was sadly not cat friendly, but no one is perfect. 🙂 She is a super girl, my Skip really likes her. She is calmer than Lyra! :))) It was just me, Skip, and Lyra this afternoon. I worked, they supervised from their beds! Xxx
