I’m Homed
So in a change of plan - Miss Penny is now spending the remaining week or so of lockdown at Chez Scholey!! She really is a little beauty - understandably a bit confused yesterday on finding herself somewhere else again, but very soon settling down. She is a great traveller in the car, and is a quiet and calm personality. She has 3 toys to choose from, but so far has only had a few seconds play with one of them. Given time she will get to realise the fun to be had throwing toys around the room! She does love her food and treats though - and while she will come up to you whilst you are eating for a sniff and a look with those gorgeous eyes! she doesn't pester and will happily go on to her bed and wait, just in case a tidbit may come her way!! She does do the stairs, but is finding our winding, narrow cottage stairs a bit awkward - but by popping on her lead and going by her side she gets up fine, strangely going down is no problem. We popped back to the kennels to cat test her this morning following an enquiry, but sadly she is not a cat friendly girl! Not to fret though, she has got so much else going for her that we are sure that forever home will be here soon - in the meantime we are happy to have this girl in our home. Angie x

Prince
I’m Homed
Hi all thank you for your kind words really nice to hear. I do understand and know that I have achieved a lot with Prince. He is a beautiful young lad, with lots of energy and a great sense of curiosity. I must put Sofia’s (Our daughter) safety first, who is a noisy and very active 4-year-old girl, as she should be. I just feel I could have achieved more with Prince. Interestingly, Sofia has already asked when the next doggy will come 🙂 For Prince, I belief he could really thrive with the family he has gone to now. I also want to thank Prince as he taught me a lot which is great for my journey to become a dog behaviourist.

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
Well....we walked into the kennels this morning and were greeted with a very festive scene! Five Christmas trees, way to tempting for Arry (doesn't ever cock his leg unless of course there is a fully decorated tree in temptations way) this is why he has gained the title of as Asbo at the kennels. Thanks to Simon who fitted new sturdy wheels to the treat trolley, that was way to interesting for Maisie, who despite wearing a muzzle still managed to drag treats and a Santa down! Lynne managed to sort the NON WORKING lights on a Christmas garland, well done. I spent ages scrubbing a chicken with not much success (don't ask, sometimes it's better not to, oh and by the way not a real chicken, nail varnish may have to be used)! Dave tackled the shed out back, it looks way better, these are things we don't have time to do when we have a "working" kennels. Although the diary looked quite quiet we had several visitors phone to collect food, by appointment only of course and some to use the sand run. Penny is having a change of scene whilst on foster, she has gone to stay with Angie and Michael, secretly between us they were keen to foster her a while ago! Many thanks to Sarah who had her on foster since lock down and for the glowing reports that she has given, we really appreciate what you have done :)) It started to get very chilly this afternoon, I was so glad to get home and put my nice warm "comfies" on, suppose we need to get ready for the onset of the winter weather now as well as everything else. I added some details onto the website of new arrivals that will be due to come into kennels once lock down is over. Keep an eye out for updated details once they arrive. It will be great to have dogs back in the kennels, its so strange not having any in :(( Well....another week is upon us, take care and stay safe everyone. X

Erik you have done wonders for Prince's future as we all now know so much more about him which will go such a long way to help him into his perfect forever home. It seems he is a clever boy and as such a young lad he just needs the patience you afforded him just without little people. Of course you didn't fail him, obviously Sofia is the priority. Thank you for all of your hard work with Prince ! xxx Here is to the next lucky dog you help / foster x

I agree with The thirdronnie, you have not failed Prince at all, please do not think that, he has learned so much from your loving patience, and the time you have given him, I am sure he has learned a lot and is very grateful to you, your daughter comes first and you have done the right thing....well done to you and Prince xxxxx

We have a lovely Christmas Tree forest in the kennels tonight....well five trees I think! :)). We thought it would cheer up visitors and us too to see some Christmas cheer! 🙂 Ruth and Tina did most of the decorating. 🙂 xx We also have some lovely edible Christmas Presents for your dogs available, including a great Advent Calandar containing a selection of the pure treets. 🙂 Why not treat your four legged friend to one? Prince came in with Erik and was such a good boy; got on great with the other Greyhounds around the kennels and has very kindly been offered another foster home. Xx We had a lot of visitors to use the sand run, it made a nice change that it didn't rain! Xx Xxx

We were really sorry to hear Erik could no longer foster Prince, but we understand completely that Sofia's safety must come first. We are so grateful for all the time Erik and his family gave to help Prince settle into a home environment. He has gone to another foster home today. 🙂 Do hope he he remembers what he has learnt during his stay with Erik and will take it with him! 🙂 Xxx

Oh no no no, you haven’t failed Prince, you’ve given him the most amazing time to learn about the world and passed on a wealth of information to anyone else who fosters or adopts him. You have been his saviour. Thank you for your spending your time helping him. Xxx

Lovely update on Scooby, thanks so much for fostering him, I know how difficult it can be to do with an existing hound (or 4!!). Nice to know they are acquainted! So pleased he has settled well and is learning the daily routines. X

Hello from Scooby. He proving to be a very easy hound to look after. His behaviour is near to perfect, sleeping soundly overnight and coping well with busy daytime routines. No fuss with eating and no drama when out walking. He’s keen to observe everything and happy to follow you around in the house. Scooby and RubelRebel are acquainted, and best out walking together. Scooby is very good at sleeping, lets try toys and playing next week.

Prince
I’m Homed
Prince had ups but also some downs this last week, but his improvements are continuing. So, you may ask why ups and downs. Lets first do a bit of the downs. The two main areas are weeing in the house and my young daughter. But we keep going with positive re-enforcement to make him understand when he is doing the weeing behaviour we need. This week he has continued to manage to hold his wee during the night, which is great. Being patient with him and re-enforcing at the right time is the critical element with Prince. With my daughter he has really improved, she can now play and make noises and do her movement which no longer spooks Prince and he watches her. Unfortunately, one time I took my daughter out when it was dark, and I am not sure what Prince thought Sofia was but he was trying to get her. Second incident today, where my daughter was doing Yoga following TV guidance when she was making lots of noises and movements and he saw her as a toy. Again, I am able to keep both my daughter and Prince save. Therefore, I still belief that Prince will thrive in an active family with older children or no children. Lets now talk about the ups with Prince and there are many of them. Prince is really starting to respond to his name. This is especially important as it helps with control. He listens to his name, raising his head, equally the percentage of Prince coming when called is also increasing. This is great news. He used to do an extremely high pitch bark when he sees other dogs. Through positive re-enforcement I am managing to calm this down. Now he more often will just look at the dogs but not do the high pitch bark. He has not lost his curiosity about the world and everything around him. He has engaged well with other dogs, small and large. He is also no longer running into the kitchen when there is the opportunity. I mentioned active family, Prince really loves his walks, not just because he likes to be outdoors, but he simply enjoys the walks. Now that his castration wound has healed, I was able to take him for more and longer walks. I would take him 3 times a day on average 40-minute walks each. He would still want more, when I got ready to go out, he will come to the front door with and look at me to say can I come. We played with toys also. We played, tug and war, with a ball, he would come up with a duck, and we played with a flirt pole several times. The later really is tiring for him, 5 minutes and that is enough. Just some observations, compared to Charlotte, he has an incredibly good sense of smell he picks up scents very quickly. He has a sensitive set of ears. He sometime responds to noises I have not heard. He is very observant. He has watch me open the gate to the kitchen (child safe gate) and has workout the there is a latch he needs to lift. One time I had not pushed it down properly and he was trying to lift the hatch with his nose. I was well impressed. I think Prince has done well this week with his improvements. He is learning how to behave in the house. Yes, he has had a couple of slip-ups but that is part of learning you make mistakes. Unfortunately, todays mistake means I must keep both my daughter and Prince safe I will have to stop the fostering. I find it upsetting because I feel I have failed him on the other hand he has made great progress. What is especially important to realise that Prince placed in the right environment will be a great addition to that family. I am sorry Prince that I must stop the fostering, but also well-done Prince with your progress over the time you were with us. Have a great retirement.

Russ did stop getting the washing up bowl for about 30 mins and stick to me like glue to help me with the dinner. Food comes before anything else.

Kiara
I’m Homed
Kiara is so much more confident in the house. She has been playing with toys for a week or so but today has been throwing the new toy I bought her into the air then chasing after it. Lovely to see 🙂 Although she is very protective of the toys and growls at any of our lot who go near her, Momma (who is staying with us at the moment), takes no notice of her and does what she wants - she’s obviously so used to dealing with Tigs!

Ever since that last post we have had about 20 games of get the bowl. Even the hoomans joined in! They took it back and I stole it! Was a very fun game. Unfortunately they have given up now and it’s left on the living room floor just where I like it! Russ Xx

I have found a way to get the washing up bowl! For anyone wondering all you have to do is stretch and use your paw to pull out the bowl. Then pick it up with your long snoot and make a lot of noise taking it in the living room. After that just leave it on the floor. Russ Xx
