Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
A lovely Autumn day today, we even had some watery sunshine so both morning & afternoon walks were enjoyed by doggies and volunteers alike! I met all our new arrivals, and they are all beautiful - but I have developed a soft spot for Penny already. Such a quiet girl, she stands beautifully still while you pop on her lead, muzzle and tracker and then walks like a dream on her lead. She is fairly big for a girl, but so lovely and her coat is sooo fluffy!! Prince's fascination with traffic continues! This afternoon as we walked down alongside the A45, he spotted something and started to jump up & down and give very non-manly high pitched yips!! We looked in the direction he was looking, and can only assume he had spotted the flashing light on top of a vehicle moving along the Airport perimeter road!! Bless him he is such a character. New boys Ronnie & Eagle are doing well and like being out exploring - Eagle is still a little wary but has come on really well. As the cute little Granite is post-op, she couldn't join her pals on their walks and looked on from the feeding run as we all went through the gate! Lorna was kept busy with pampers during the morning, and we had several visitors for the sand run. The transformation of the kennels continues and the back area is looking amazing. Don't forget our postponed 14th Birthday Grand Raffle is drawn tomorrow - you can still buy tickets from the online shop or by calling the kennels. And a date for your diary is 25th November - that's when Tiggy's Tinseltime Auction will commence online on her Facebook fundraising page. She's getting together lots of lovely present ideas for 2 & 4 legs so she can raise funds to help all her pals at Daybreaks. Well incredibly the weekend is here again - the diary looks fairly busy with appointments so keep fingers crossed and raise a glass with me for some red or green signs by Monday morning! Happy weekend one and all - cheers! Angie xx

Lots of tidying and sorting going on today! 🙂 We had several donations of raffle prizes, bedding and goodies for our residents. I helped Shirley with her bedding store, its very well orgsnised! Ruth and Tina were busy sorting all the items donated for Tiggy's Facebook page and the reorganisation of the back treatment room. Aided by Richard! Alan and Declan had a trip to Pets at Home. 🙂 It was a drizzly day but the dogs enjoyed their walks. Our latest arrivals Eagle and Ronnie are settling well. 🙂 Thanks to everyone for their help today. :)) Xxx

Granite had her neutering operation today. Thanks so much to Richard for taking her and Rosie for picking her up this afternoon. She has gone home with Ruth tonight. :)) She is the most gorgeous girl, a little ray of sunshine...I tried desperately to convince John we should take her home but he was very sensible and said "No!" :)) Xxx

Celia as you are the sensible one I think you should take charge and take great care of your Dad. I'm sure Jess will help too. Just make sure he knows how much you both love him and how much you need him. You are his very special girls. Xxx

As the sensible one I am a bit worried to be honest about Dad he said yesterday that something had finally hit him and since then he's been a complete mess , he also said it helps him if I write about things but to be honest Im not really sure what he wants me to write about , I suppose the best I can do is keep being me and see if that makes him happy , Don't worry I will take care of him and make sure he is happy , this is such a responsibility being a domestic dog but Im up for the Challenge , I have the scars to prove I can turn my mind to whatever I want to to and all I want to do now is make sure Dad is OK , Im going to have a good chat with Jess when he's sleeping tonight and see what we can do to help him but Im suspecting we are already doing everything we can and I know he loves waking up with me lying on his feet and Jess with her teeth on his head but if there's anything else we can do , then trust me we will , God this is hard work though looking after you Human people didn't think Id signed up for this but he's worth it and he's hard work, now if someone could post something to get him to move so I can just get his Brandy and Coke , Id appreciate it , Loads of Love Celia xx

Something is kicking off here and I haven't got a clue what but Dad just had a facebook message with a picture , the picture looks nice its something that has been made for him and it has the hairs from his old dogs (dunno where they are now, I'm guessing they are on the moon) and the feather he says Carrie sent us when she went to the moon , then he checked this thing called email and this thing called the bank , he says the bank is what gives me my dinner everyday and then it kicked off , its 3 am and I just want him to go back to bed but Dad is not happy as the Doctor told him in an email that having Carrie sent to the moon was 218.66 and his bank shows 281.66 , I think its a mistake Oh wait , he's coming back to bed great news, Sorry I have to get off here NOW and be a greyhound as only we can be , Im still just going to jump up at everyone I see because I love everyone ..Jess ( even though I am a Princess really) Don't worry I will take care of him he's going to be OK I'll make sure of it

A chilly day today. Thanks to our Wednesday walkers, Izzy, Denise, Chris and Dave for all their help. Both morning and afternoon walks were managed. It was lovely to get an update on Queenie, she is settling really well. It was a fairly quiet day for visitors (for a change)! The new arrivals from yesterday are very handsome indeed. Not really much else to report, so until next time, take care all. X

Two more new arrivals today, Ronnie and Eagle, both incredibly handsome boys! 🙂 Thanks so much to Gloria and Shirley for giving them both a bath. 🙂 We had two viewings which were very promising...Granite proved very popular!! As did Penny. Xxx At last we were able to send Richard and Declan off to the tip! Ruth made an appointment for them. 🙂 Sorry both, not quite making a booking at a Restaurant for you! :)) Prince enjoyed his trip to Sutton Park with Erik and his daughter. Erik took a video of Prince barking. He is right...it certainly isn't the bark of of big, well built Greyhound more like the sound of a Chihuahua! Bless him! 🙂 xx Thanks so much to everyone for their help today. Xxx

Oh my goodness, you have the same dad as our Amber and you look so similar. Your colour and the shape of your head is the same, with such a pointy nose. I'm sure if Amber had met you, she would have been grumpy all the same, but it is uncanny. It is quite emotional looking at your photo after just losing her.

Amber (Bernie)
Over the Rainbow Bridge
Thank you for all of the best wishes we've received. Sadly Amber had developed a severe back problem which, despite the best efforts of our vets, couldn't be fixed. She deteriorated to the point she couldn't walk very far and we had to take the hardest decision to say goodbye. We loved you so much, you were bright and cheeky, a huge personality. A star at awareness roadshows, people loved you - plenty wanted to offer you a home and we were proud to say you were ours. At Stratford races you were pleased to be centre of attention and racegoers came for cuddles and some took selfies of themselves with you (for a small fee for Daybreaks, of course). Yes, you couldn't stand other dogs (other than Casper and Finn) and would be quick to let them know, but you were our sunshine in these dark days, with a unique smile from your overshot jaw, and we will miss you so much.

Prince
I’m Homed
Today the Prins family took Prince for a walk. I say family because my 4 year old daughter was asking to go to the kennel and walk one of the dogs. When I entered Prince’s kennel he was really happy to go for a walk. When we got to the car he did not like that idea and I had to lift him in the car. He is not a happy traveler, he stands-up in the car and keeps looking through the rear window and put his head through the guard and looks ahead whilst penting, lips back and dilated puppils, a sign of stress. Having said this he is not a problem in the car. When we arrived he was so exited and wanted to get going straight away, as it had been and still was raining I had to change into my rain gear. What I did not expect was his bark. You have to understand he is a well-built boy, so when I heard his bark the first time I thought he had hurt himself, so I was checking him over but no nothing was wrong. When he again saw dogs playing in the distance and was barking I realised he has a very high pitch bark. Which I simply did not expect from such a well build boy. He is an easy dog to walk. Yes he is very alert and moves from left to right, which is easy to control by shortening the lead. His juices start to flow when he sees other dogs, starts to bark and wants to meet them. I did allow him to meet some larger dogs which was fine, he can be a bit erratic in his movements. When it comes to smaller dogs I am not sure, ideally I would do another walk to try and better understand the displayed behaviour. The reason I say this is because I have seen him a couple of times go into the predatory sequence up to the stalk. With Prince I am not sure what his intentions are. He is still young and this was his first ever walk, that may have played part in his behaviour. It is also important to keep in mind that when you know the sequence it is easy to spot and correct the behaviour. I do this with our Greyhound Charlotte, when she goes through the sequence but especially when I she her starting to stalk, this is when I correct her and be alert myself. As mentioned I took my 4 year old with me today. To be honest, Prince did not pay much attention to her. We met some other toddlers and again he was not phased by them. On the way back my daughter was being very loud and I belief she was throwing her cuddly toy around, that did make Prince take note but nothing else. As It was raining we only came across one cyclist which you also ignored. We did see many people and again he did not pay much attention to them. Prince I enjoyed my walk with you today, I do not think I will forget that bark quickly. You are alert and excitable, your movements can be erratic, but also a friendly sole. For your first ever trip you did very well. It cannot be easy to come from a kennel and suddenly meet all these strange creatures (other dog breeds, humans etc). I know the perfect home is there for you enjoy your retirement.
