Firstly, thanks for everyone's help today. A day of mixed emotions really. Dippy Dora went home after meeting her new sister, wishing her well. Another lovely lady came to see the kennels and dogs (or rather dog)! She is going to wait for the right dog to come along and she has done so much research on owning a greyhound! Sadly Willow (Raven) was returned today. She was struggling with the stairs, she was ok going up but struggling to come back down even with help. She had a bit of a tumble and the family decided that they could not bear the thought of her being badly injured. She did jump the stairgate at the kennels office so a stairgate was not really an option for them. The family were absolutely distraught, but quite rightly decided that they needed to put the welfare of Raven first. She had been perfect in every other respect. Gold met his soon to be sister, they got on really well. His mom went home with some supplies from our shop ready for when he goes home! Hope Kate is enjoying her well deserved break :))

So very sad for Raven. 🙁 So sorry for her family it didn't work out. She is a special little girl who has found being at Daybreaks and away from her previous kennels quite unsettling. She is sweet and lovely and I am sure will find her perfect home...maybe there is someone who has another dog who would be happy to help her with her anxieties and fears and show her how this reitement thing works! Sending her Lots of love. Xxx

Oh poor Raven. Our girl doesn't do coming downstairs either, so we have a stairgate and now she doesn't even try to tackle stairs. Good luck little one x

Oh Raven my baby girl how sad for you. I guess stairs can be a bit daunting when you've never seen them before, let's see if we can work with you so you can tackle them with confidence next time my poppet. Big cuddle for you tonight. xx

Very sadly Willow (Raven) has been returned, the family are distraught at making this decision, but think it is in her best interests. She was not able to cope with the stairs, she was ok going up but not coming down and the worry was she would injure herself. She had been perfect in the house and was great with the children.

A little dull and chilly this morning, but as the day went on it became lovely, warm and sunny. Sad to see Lauren and Stacey do their last Saturday before heading off to uni. Thanks to them for their help and support, they will be missed. X The dogs that could have walks had both morning and afternoon walks. Raven now Willow went home, good luck to her and her family. Gold was reserved and will be introduced to his potential greyhound sister tomorrow, fingers crossed that all goes well. We have two viewings booked for tomorrow, again I am hoping all goes well with those. Not used to being in on a Saturday, and hope Kate has a good holiday. Anyhoo back in tomorrow, weather forecast is good, so hopefully another greyt day. Xx

Little Miss Dippy Dora is such a sweetie! She thinks everything is fun, has a mad waggy tail, and loves her food. It makes me smile how she will come bursting through the door, then after a few hops & skips, put the brakes on, almost as if she is shocked at finding herself outside!! xx

There is always much noise & excitement when we open the kennel blocks in the morning, which is understandable as the dogs are happy to see someone and know its almost time to go out for a wee or two!! However this gorgeous fella gets down off his bed and stands quietly and calmly looking through the bars at you, then after you have said "Good Morning" and passed by, he gets back on his bed and waits patiently until its his turn to come out. Sadly he is not eating too well at the minute - so I brought him a tray of Crave chicken pate this morning which went down rather well (not really favouritism you understand, he is a big boy and we cant have him losing weight!!). xxx

    I’m Homed

Although today being a Friday was unusually a day off for me (Kate has gone on a much deserved holiday and Ruth is unfortunately very poorly) and Angie very kindly covered the kennels, I took Belle for her neutering op this morning. Quick call back to the kennels to complete as much homing paperwork for Jo as possible. Had several phone calls before I left. My plan was to go and do some window shopping this afternoon, but it didn't happen, I just wanted to go home and relax with the kids! Unfortunately, Sarah Scare Bear had recently been diagnosed with chronic lymphoid leukaemia, she seems well in herself so far, but every moment spent with her is a godsend. On a positive note she is not currently on any medication (vets advice) and has a review in 3 weeks. This was only picked up as she had what now turns out to be a lump on her back (infected cyst which has now disappeared) and had pre op blood tests for a dental, which showed her white blood cell count was high. A further test confirmed what type of leukaemia it was. Fingers crossed my Moo Cow will be with us for a long time yet. Xxxxx Thanks again to Angie for covering the kennels today, Chris and Bella for their help and Rosie for collecting Belle from the vets this afternoon. We have an amazing team of volunteers, I feel eternally grateful for everyone's help. Xxx 5 others liked this Like
