What a lovely day...so much cooler! The residents got morning and afternoon walks. 🙂 This afternoon we were joined by Linford's soon to be new Mum and her friend. We closed the kennels for half an hour and all went out for a walk. :)) Everyone looked far more comfortable in their kennels when we left tonight. I know we shouldn't complain but it has been just far too hot for our dogs and me this week!! Xxx

I heard from Billy’s new dad yesterday saying that he is sleeping well throughout this heat, and is now taking food and treats out of their hands! He has settled really well with their other 2 greys and they think “he is a cracker and is well and truly in his forever home“. So happy for this lovely boy xxx

Klaire, i say just do what i do...just bring the animal home, they then fall in love after spitting their dummy for a while (think that bit makes them feel like they're in control-but that's ok, let them feel this for we know the truth!) Then they want them to stay and its 'their idea to keep them' then...see I've got my husband well trained and worked out...this is assuming TC is a person lol?! Xxx

So, I put on my best upset voice and told TC about Flash and your injury, “no one will want her, She’s got a broken hock and needs the reassurance of a sister like Florence”. The response “ I’m sure they’ll find her a good family”. So I tried “I’ve got so much love to give it’s either another greyhound or I’ll have an affair”. TC “please don’t”. Me “which does the “please don’t” refer to?” TC “both, give more love to Florence”. Me “that’s not possible”. So no luck there Flash! I’ll keep trying. Xx

Over the Rainbow Bridge
Hi Klaire, hopefully this may work on TC! Flash is gorgeous, she was very nervous, but when I called her name on Wednesday she was very responsive, wagging tail and kisses on your hand. I sat in her kennel and got a kiss on the nose! She is limited to short walks as she suffered a broken hock, this must have been quite a recent injury as you can still see the scar from her op. She is still very cautious of people she doesn't know, we feel she would benefit from a home with another dog who can show her the ropes, someone just like Florence. Florence could give her so much confidence and show her people are lovely, not scary and they give lots of love and affectation. She is such a sweet girl and I'm sure that once settled you wouldn't even know she was there! Come on TC, at some point you will have to relent, make it sooner rather than later. Good luck Klaire! Xx

As soon as I read that Flash was cat friendly I thought, there's the perfect sister for Florence. Wouldn't it be great if TC caved, and let this little girl join your family, fingers crossed and all that xxxx

Jack
I’m Homed
Today I had the pleasure of taking Jack out for a walk in Sutton Park. He is a good traveller, yes, I needed to lift him into the car but mine is quite high to jump in to. The treat did not work with him to lure him in the car. He initially was standing but he soon lay down and I could see him occasionally looking out of rear the window. Return journey was the same, did not see or hear him. When we arrived at the park you were keen to get out and have a sniff around. We first meet a very vocal poodle which you were not sure of. Then you meet a big Labrador, for some reason he scared you, but you soon calmed down. I did not experience any pulling in fact you were amazingly easy to walk You were certainly curious about the sounds, sights and smells in the park, the ducks were of interest. We came across a family with children and had a chat, I was told that one was normally scared of dogs, but your calm nature ensured she was not so scared, brilliant. There were other children running past you and making lots of noise, you looked up but was not really flustered by them. Bicycles also did not bother you at all. We also came across a German Shepard Dog, you showed interest but was not worried about them. We also come across that very vocal miniature poodle and that scared you this time. Again, you came around quickly. Then we came across a border collie and he did not bother you at all. Finally, we met two Labradors who were playing in the water. One was busy with a log the other slowly approached you. You took your time approaching the dogs, you then wanted to be with them whilst a little warry. I then had trouble getting you to move onwards. I did notice that your stamina will need some building-up. 20 to 25 minutes into the walk you seemed to have had enough. I also noticed that you are not keen on walking on rough gravel/stones it seems uncomfortable for you. I did take you in the grass plain and that seemed much more comfortable for you and you walked much better. Jack, thank you for the walk today I am proud of your first walk in the big world. It was an easy walk for me. You are a truly kind dog, who is a little nervous which your new family need to take time to understand when or what makes you nervous. You made me laugh when we returned to the kennel. As I got you out of the car, I realised I forgot something the moment I opened the driver’s door you jumped in and went to the backseat to get comfortable. As Kate mentioned to me and I agree that you may want to be part of a pack. You will need lots of positive re-enforcement and patience and you will make a family incredibly happy.

Scientific evidence has proved that Greyhounds are actually able to predict future events, all three of mine KNOW EXACTLY where I need to be standing in 2 minutes from any given event and then will stand in that exact spot, for example, if I need to brush my teeth 2 minutes from now, they will stand by the sink, if I need to iron my clothes 2 minutes from now , they will stand in the exact spot I need to set the ironing board up in they are prediction dogs and can predict the future by standing exactly where you are going next, don't believe me ?? then how about lying on the towel you've put next to the shower ...prediction dogs .. case closed, scientific fact, I need to be there and you are there, Love you JessJess xx you are the clingiest and the most loving Girl ever, although the odd few people may find it antisocial do you think I'd ever not be proud of the way you give everyone a stand-up hug , proper paws on shoulders or chest and " I love you Human " hug and yeah I encourage it too because you hug great and you mean it xxx

Does anyone else have a Greyhound who is terrified of loud noises and storms ?.... Good, I'm glad for you, because I DON'T so when I get up from my desk to go outside to look at the amazing natural event and mop up the water in the back porch (which is hopefully getting fixed next week) all three of mine just try to steal my food and drink, rather than hiding under the quilt like normal dogs, then they all just go back to sleep

Oh Flash, I need a real hard luck story to convince TC to let you live with us! You appear cat friendly and would make a great sister for Florence. Any help you can give me to soften TCs heart would be much appreciated! X

Polly walked beautifully again today, she had no pesky cats or small flurries to distract her. With some training and encouragement she will be a lovely addition to a family. X

It was unbelievably hot today. Thanks to Helen, Dave and Deb who came in to do morning walks. We managed Therese down the lane in the shade before it got too hot. This afternoon was paddling pool time although I don't think the residents were too impressed. We left tonight with the fans on in the kennel blocks, hopefully it will start to cool down a bit. X
