Today I had the pleasure of taking Linford out for a walk in Sutton Park. Initially he was not keen but once we got going he was quite relaxed. He travelled well, he was first standing but once he found his comfort he was happily lying down, now and then looking out of the rear window. On the way back he jumped in the car with the aid of a treat. He was probably tired as I did not hear or see him. I was pleasantly surprised during the walk, I was informed that he was retired because he started to chase other greyhounds rather then the lure and that there may be some aggression towards other dogs. I was of course cautious, but with the first encounter, a mini dachshund, he was more bemused at this little barking dog. The next group of dogs we came across were a Greyhound and what appeared to be a beagle cross. Linford had a sniff at the greyhound, but the beagle cross found the muzzle on Linford a bit scary so was not keen to interact. Interestingly, Linford wanted to walk with them and this is what we did most of the walk. He did show a great interest in the beagle cross when I realised he has not been neutered yet and the beagle cross is female. We also came a cross another group which had a fluffy Pomeranian to which Linford did respond and wanted to chase. This was easily corrected and controlled. Once we were at a pond, he saw some ducks and he unexpectedly jumped in the water he was probably a little surprised how deep it was and I had to help him out. We came across another group of small dogs. One a poodle cross and one unknown cross but both small dogs. You showed interest but was not fussed. We also came across cyclist, runners and playing children of different ages, none of this caused you concern or reaction. I had taken a homemade toy to see if he likes toys or treats. He is a treats man, he was not interested in the rattling toy but a treat, YES please. It even helped me on the return journey to check if he was ok. He would not respond to his name but when I stopped at traffic lights and opened the pack of treats, he soon picked up on the smell and was standing up. So, for training use treats as his go to reward. Linford was quite an easy dog to walk. He is interested in sounds and smells and the new sights of environment and animals. He was not pulling much and travels well. Yes, he did show, what I call a lunge at a Pomeranian, not sure I would classify it as aggression towards other dogs. Given the fluffy nature of a Pomeranian and the training Linford has had, it is not surprising he reacted. I must admit that I do miss his tail. This is simply because dogs use their tail to communicate emotion. So when they meet other dogs their tail is a useful gauge to anticipate their level of confidence, shyness or ambivalence. I did see a lot of alter behaviour but no targeting behaviour, which is good. Overall once Linford is neutered you may well have a very relaxed dog on your hands. In terms of the lunging that can be trained out of him and being clear and consistent in the approach will help. For any dog, there is nothing worse then getting mixed messages. I also suggest giving him a different name he simply has not responded to Linford, keep it short and simple. Linford, thank you for the walk, I enjoyed it very much and was pleasantly surprised at your overall relaxed demeanour. You made me laugh when you just went into the water to investigate the ducks. I am sure you will make a great pet. Thank you for the nice walk today and enjoy your retirement.

Flash
Over the Rainbow Bridge
I have yet to meet this little stunner, but having read in other comments that Flash is recovering from a broken hock, I just want to reassure potential adopters not to overlook this beauty. Flash's Grandad is our Brae's Dad; Brae suffered a broken hock during her racing life and we didn't think twice about fostering then adopting her. Yes Brae walks slightly differently to other greyhounds, but that's her 'trademark'. Brae's never let that injury hold her back and from the age of 5 when she chose us until now aged 11, she's still living life to the full, keeping up and often overtaking other furbabies she's walking with. Please, please, don't overlook Flash, if determination runs through her blood line, she'll have it in heaps. Biggest hugs gorgeous girl, Tash xxx

So confident around the house, it's almost like you Rule the world, everything I own I don't, its all yours my food is yours if I don't eat it fast enough, my toilet rolls are yours, my pajama trousers are something that I brought for you to chew on if I don't hide them, my wine is yours unless I pick up the glass and take it with me when I have a wee, and you are in charge and ruler of the world Until of course a builder comes in and you turn into a nervous gentle placid polite young lady who runs away and no one believes me that you are mad as a bag of frogs and I'm the one that looks crazy for saying that you are, Jess was properly up there with feet on shoulders giving a big hug to the lads and yet she's so placid and shy normally, but nothing makes sense anymore anyway .... Best thing is though You so know that outside is for weeing and you look so amazing when you do wee ,you just put on that funny face thats so cute does anyone else absoultely love watching there girls have a wee or am I just strange ?

Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
You never know what a day will bring. Sadly a call this morning that Polly was becoming too strong on the lead and her owner felt she was too difficult to walk, cats seemed to be a big problem, and she felt the best thing for Polly was to come back to Daybreaks and find a home that could accommodate her needs.....Well this afternoon a lovely couple came in, and whilst initially they fell for Flash, they really liked Polly. They took her around the sand run and sensibly went away to chat about whether she was the right girl for them. A call after I got home said yes! They have reserved her. Sam had a visit this morning too. Another lovely couple with 2 older greys (sorry kids, their words not mine, 8 and 9 is not old)! Sam got on really well with them and so off he went, so sad to see him go, but also so glad. I called Rosie who had kindly fostered him to let her know he had gone home before I updated the website. Thanks to her and Paul he had turned a corner and is less nervous. Mixed emotions as they really feel in love with him (as did most people) but they couldn't go up to 4 and I wasn't going up to 6! It was very warm this afternoon, so with only 3 dogs in the kennels they had some fun in the sand run, apart from little Flash, who had a gentle stroll due to recovering from a broken hock. She is beautiful but still very nervous, I spent some time with her in her kennel, I think as she gets to know and trust you she will be a fantastic little companion. We will hopefully have 2 new arrivals tomorrow. Can't wait to meet them on Wednesday if they are still there!!! Take care all, tomorrow promises to be another hot day, keep those hounds cool. Jo x
