Tuesday is not my normal working day, but I was covering for Kate whilst she is on holiday. Thank you to the Tuesday Crew for all of their help. The internet decided to join Kate on holiday! No access all day and that applied to the till as well....We had a contingency plan for that, cash and the old card reader. We really don't mind how we get a payment just as long as we do get one!! Thanks to Barry for coming in to try and fix it, it would seem it a provider issue. No appointments for tomorrow, the next available will be Thursday. Hopefully everything will be up and running by then. Thanks to Cloggyerik for taking little Raven and doing some work with her, hopefully this will help her. She sounds like a proper little character with her various antics.

We took Raven in this Tuesday to do a bit of work with her, regarding the stairs as she was having difficulty with them. To support her wrist I placed a front leg brace on the offending leg, this made a real difference to her walking the stairs. When first placed on her leg I did a couple of practice climbs near where we live, there are 4 steps to master. She went up fine but was first hesitant to go down, but with a little encouragement she did. We practised about 6 times, it must have looked strange to others. Thanks to the brace she quickly gained confidence. To my surprise she was running up and down the stairs following my wife around in the evening. They really connected, so nice to see. She was settling in very quickly, was enjoying being outside in the grass. Charlotte and Raven also get on really well. Charlotte even allowed Raven to share her Sofa, a real privilege. Raven was quick to discover the kitchen a number of corrections and she understood it is of limits. During dinner she off course showed her nose on the table, with a number of corrections she quickly understood table is of limits and just laydown on her bedding. Great first day. 15-09-2020 This Morning Raven was excited to be awake. She went to our 4 year old room when my wife needed to wake her up. Raven gave a helping hand by liking my daughters face. My wife found it funnier then my daughter. When outside she did the play bow to our Greyhound, nice to see. We had a walk in the morning Raven was walking well. Again I did put a leg brace on her front leg just for support. It seems to help her no limps or holding up of her leg. Later in the morning we did some more stair practice. Because she has been running up and down I took her to a bridge that crosses a rail way. A bit more challenging but made sure Raven was calm and stopped on the half way platform and up again. Going down did the same all fine again. We practised these stairs a couple of times and all was fine. I took the brace of and practised on the small stairs at the top of our road and again did really well. It is a pleasure to have Raven around. She is full of energy wants to play, unfortunately with her leg I just don’t want to over load the wrist. She greets you with joy in her face. She is also good at relaxing she was sun bathing in the grass today or just relaxing

Russ
Over the Rainbow Bridge
Russ went to a little dog party on Sunday and had the time of his life. 4 dogs all eating doggy ice cream and playing with the squeaky toys. He has done it twice now and he never wants to leave. It’s took him almost 9 months to realise he can have a lot of fun and show how much love he has got for everyone. We forgot to put the kitchen bowl back and I just turned to see him run off with it.

I am so very sad to hear Derry has gone to Rainbow Bridge. What a super lad. Ruth brought him to the kennels many times whilst she was looking after him. He was a kind and gentle soul Thinking of his family. God Bless your Derry. Xxx

Bessie

Today my walk in Sutton Coldfield was with Bessie. When I came to meet her in her kennel, she greeted me enthusiastically as if to say, come-on where will you take me? We got ready and when we got to the car, she tried to jump in, but it was a bit to high for her. She travels well, on low speed she is sitting up but on motorway she was lying down. When we arrived at Sutton Park, she was keen to go out for a walk. She pulled a little but I belief that was just the excitement of the new smells and sounds. She was very alert, and her ears are quite funny. You know when she is interested in a sound or sight she picked up. We met lots of different dogs. It seemed like it was gundog day, specially pointers and cocker spaniels. Bessie was interested in some and others did not blink or pay attention to. We also came across a St Bernard and what seemed a Bull Mastiff but no interest. Bessie found the swans interesting until they hissed. We met lots of people, some you come up to say hello. Not everybody was interested of course. It was nice to see you are so confident. We were passed by runners and cyclist alike none of them phased or startled you. Bessie I will be surprised if you remain long in the kennel, you are a joy to walk. You are friendly to others and curious about your surroundings. For your first walk in the big world out there you did really well. Ohh before I forget, she is a foody. For training food will work well with her specially high value treats. Thank you for the walk Bessie I hope you will soon find your forever home.

I am heartbroken to say that Derry gained his angel wings - after a lay in the garden in the sun and his dinner, he curled up last night to sleep tight. I will miss this fella so much - I am good friends of his owners and I have looked after him many many times so he will be very much missed. He was a fabulous boy I will never forget x

Bessie is a very sweet young lady. She had a lovely walk down the lane with Dora and Gold and didn't pull, not even when she saw another dog ahead. She wasn't best pleased when I was humming Classic FM music to Raven (I don't blame her!) I hope she gets her forever home very soon. x

It was very sad for the family today who had to bring Willow/Raven back. You could see they were heartbroken but it was just too much for her to manage the stairs in their particular house. She may also benefit from a doggy companion. It was hot and humid today and she was a bit hot when she came back so I sat on the cool floor of her kennel where she lay down. I gave her a bit of a massage and an ear rub and hummed the classic FM music to her. She seemed to like this (although Bessie vocally complained haha!) I'm sure the perfect home is there for her and that it won't be long. She's such a darling and is related to my Sam and Nadie (via Crash). x

Gold is such a lovely boy. He walked well and was very good when Simon and I did his health check. It was lovely to meet his new family. He's going to be very spoilt and I don't think it will be long before he's eating well (he liked the frankfurter sausages we brought in for all the residents as a treat for their tea). As Spandau Ballet were my favourite group when I was a teenager, I spent a lot of the day singing "Gold" and had others joining in! x

Dora

Dora really is adorable. She walked beautifully on the lead. She saw another dog in the distance on the walk down the lane and was interested but didn't lunge. She walked back to the kennel really well but stopped just before going back in. She went in with the lure of treats. When she was brought out of the kennel to meet visitors she froze but responded to some massage techniques and got moving again. It was lovely to see her have a run in the small part of the sand run with her new sister then to see her go off to her new home. Good luck Dora the Explorer. I look forward to hearing how you're getting on. x

Daybreaks Diary!

Firstly, thanks for everyone's help today. A day of mixed emotions really. Dippy Dora went home after meeting her new sister, wishing her well. Another lovely lady came to see the kennels and dogs (or rather dog)! She is going to wait for the right dog to come along and she has done so much research on owning a greyhound! Sadly Willow (Raven) was returned today. She was struggling with the stairs, she was ok going up but struggling to come back down even with help. She had a bit of a tumble and the family decided that they could not bear the thought of her being badly injured. She did jump the stairgate at the kennels office so a stairgate was not really an option for them. The family were absolutely distraught, but quite rightly decided that they needed to put the welfare of Raven first. She had been perfect in every other respect. Gold met his soon to be sister, they got on really well. His mom went home with some supplies from our shop ready for when he goes home! Hope Kate is enjoying her well deserved break :))

So very sad for Raven. 🙁 So sorry for her family it didn't work out. She is a special little girl who has found being at Daybreaks and away from her previous kennels quite unsettling. She is sweet and lovely and I am sure will find her perfect home...maybe there is someone who has another dog who would be happy to help her with her anxieties and fears and show her how this reitement thing works! Sending her Lots of love. Xxx
