What a difference a couple of months makes after rehoming. Wendy is now so settled, greets me with a wagging tail and the typical greyhound bouncing every time I come home. She adores her sisters, particularly Jinky who she loves to stand over and stroke with her paw. She loves her walks and still loves to look for the squirrels! She has made friends with a Jack Russell that we greet most days. I would encourage anyone to look beyond the behaviour of the hound they may initially see in the kennels - with patience and love they really come out of their shell and become such loving happy dogs.

2019 Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
What a terrible grey, wet & soggy day it was today! It was so dark it felt like the middle of the night - but on the plus side it meant that we had the full benefit of our lovely Christmas lights all day. We had a group of volunteers join us from the Coventry Building Society - they happily joined in all the activities and said they had really enjoyed their day and had fallen under the spell of our beautiful residents. They were also very impressed with how well we look after our Greys and how well cared for they all looked. It is lovely to receive such positive comments. We had a DIY - SOS situation which was fortunately speedily resolved by Bella. The handle on the door to the cat room & dog kitchen broke and the door was firmly latched shut!! We thought we would have to take the long route out of the kennels and through the car park every time we wanted to go out the back!! but Bella came to the rescue and fitted a new handle after a bit of alteration to the door - phew! Santa's Grotto is now ready & waiting for the man himself to appear, and our Memory Tree already has a few decorations on with some lovely messages to our Rainbow Bridge hounds. As promised the lovely Danny is now in place as my phone screensaver - fingers crossed that it works again and this lovely boy will soon find his way onto his own forever sofa. Lunchtime saw the arrival of 2 more new arrivals to join the Daybreaks family. Britney is a very kissy little girl who wants to be everyone's friend - she is so cute and so sweet. Russ is little Princess's brother but his arrival was in such a contrast to his sister last week. He is quiet and quite uncertain of his surroundings at the minute, but I am sure he will start to relax as the days go by. They both enjoyed their supper though, and we have paired them up so they can give each other moral support as they settle in to their new surroundings. Many thanks for everyone's help today. Morning and afternoon walks were done but unfortunately the walkers got caught in a downpour this afternoon and everyone returned rather soggy!!! Well the weekend is here again, and we are all ready for Santa's arrival on Sunday. We hope to see lots of 2 & 4 legged friends to help us celebrate Christmas, we have some lovely raffle prizes, calendars for sale, mini pampers for the hounds and festive refreshments too. It all starts at 10.30am so hope to see you there. It's a red wine kind of evening I think - and my glass is raised to all our residents in the hope that forever sofas will soon be theirs. Don't forget we are hoping to find foster homes for all our boys & girls over the Christmas period, so if you would like to help out and have adopted from us previously, give the kennels a call or have a word with us on Sunday. Keep warm & dry - cheers! Angie xxxx

2019 Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
It was lovely to see Woolfy and his Mom and Dad today. He came for a nail trim. His Mom made me laugh when she said he was ruined and spoilt rotten! 🙂 After visiting us he was off to the cafe in Melbicks Garden Centre. :)) We would like every Greyhound to find a home where they are spoilt rotten! Xxx There were more preparations going on for the Christmas party, which involved tinsel and lights! 🙂 Thanks so much to Erica for the extra chocolate hamper...you can never have too much chocolate!! Thank you so much to everyone who popped in with donations of food and bedding. We are so grateful for everything, especially tins of pilchards or sardines. Xx Bronya and Kerry gave all the residents a groom today. Their coats get very dry wearing fleeces all the time. We have more new arrivals due to arrive over the next few days. :)) Xxx

Danny boy, you are now Daybreaks longest stayer, having been with us for 4 days more than Miss Scruff! So it is time to get you on my phone as a screensaver - the number of times this has worked in the past is quite freaky!! Will see you tomorrow and get that photo in place. Big cuddles my lovely boy. xxx

2019 Daybreaks Diary!
I’m Homed
Now – what would be the best present you could give at Christmas?..... how about a ‘Dog just is for Christmas’ and offer one of our Daybreaks Residents a foster home – yes, just over the Christmas Period! Not only will this give the greys who are looking for a home a sample of home life which will make it easier for us to assess their needs when they go to a new home but it would also allow Kate and Jo and the volunteers to have a few days break as I will not be there either as I will be recovering from a fourth operation! If you are interested and have adopted from us before, or would like more information please give the kennels a call on 0121 782 7702 and speak to Kate or Jo. We will supply everything you need – food, coats, beds etc. They even have their own Christmas gifts to bring with them! As I am not able to drive at the moment, I twisted a friend's arm to get a lift to Daybreaks Tuesday to say hello to the residents, volunteers and deliver some more Christmas lights to make the place look even more festive ready for Santa's visit on Sunday! I really hope you will come along and help us get even more into the festive swing of things. I am really looking forward to it although to come along I have had to promise to everyone 'not to overdo it'!!! We felt like Christmas had come early as last Saturday we had a fabulous donation for Daybreaks for £816! I have added a photo taken that day. This had been donated from a Ladies’ Evening held by Yenton Lodge No. 3484 – a branch of the Freemasons. Freemasonry is often misunderstood and not many people are aware that their primary aim is support, especially raising funds for charity. To see the good work they do and more information their website address is https://yentonlodge.co.uk We would like to say a massive thank you to them for their support. Hopefully see you all Sunday - Ruth xxxx

Something is going on, I just know it, Daddy Jeff came home last night at 9 pm to give me my dinner and give me a kiss goodnight before he was sleeping in at work which he tells me is only 3 doors away from our house and his boss lets him come home whenever he wants to so he can see me, which probably explains why I have to get off our shared bed and go out for a wee after only 4 hours of being on my own during the day when I'm sleeping. Anyway, I digress, just as he was leaving last night, I noticed he was crying ( don't tell him I said that), I was looking a bit sad though and I don't think he wanted to leave me, sure the heating was on but I kinda miss Mummy to cuddly up too since she went away to the moon to see Teddy , me and Jeff were outside watching them only a few days ago. I sort of miss Teddy too, but he was sometimes an angry little man it was nice to know he was with Mummy on the moon Has he got me a Christmas present? or has he got me something else for life? Guess I'm just going to have to wait and see As ever, Loads of Love Carrie xxx ( If you've never had this or a similar thought pattern with your dogs, your lying !! ) See you all on Tuesday, I just wish Daybreaks was closer to where I live Jefffrey
