Today I saw Robbie go off to foster. Next was Dukey to go out to his new home and followed swiftly by Tegan now called Bella. We have taken in Lola today on respite and have new arrivals booked to fill the kennels. It has been non stop and inbetween this I have been trying to learn how to claim gift aid! This is normally Jo's task but with her still off sick, I am trying to take this over. If anyone has experience of this and is willing to help, I would be more than grateful!

ROBBIE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING! Ok.... don't get too excited - he has only gone out on foster but this is to assess all aspects of his behaviour which seem to have improved massively since his return at the beginning of the year when he pulled his owner over when a dog off the lead ran by him. He has gone with my dear friends Maggie and Paul who are looking after Roman. Robbie had a play in the sand run with Roman and even gave kisses to Roman through his muzzle once they were both in the back of the car. In the sand run, they both chased after a toy and played really well. Let's hope he finds his forever home soon and I will keep you posted with updates.

I have just come back from doing Tegan’s home visit. I took Tony with us and he tested out her new beds (lots of) her toys, checked out the garden and even tried on her new pjs! She is going to be a very lucky girl x

EXPERIENCED FOREVER HOME NEEDED (Long post warning) https://daybreakstrust.co.uk/dog/2302 On Friday morning last week, Erik and I went out to visit Josh in his foster home. Josh has been fostered by Hannah since May this year and we now feel he is ready for his forever home. HISTORY Josh was unfortunately returned from 3 homes due to aggressive behaviour. Josh came to Daybreaks in April 2021 and quickly found a home. In his first home, there had been no concerns. Just over a year after his homing in May 2022, Josh was returned as he had started growling and baring his teeth. On return to the kennels he was visibly limping but the owners told us he had been running around the garden and slipped. Back at the kennels he showed no aggresive behaviour, his limp disappeared and seemed well in himself. He therefore went out to foster with one of our volunteers who already had a greyhound. Unfortunately he was returned within a couple of weeks, as he snapped at the other greyhound and had been growling. We felt he may be best as an only dog so in June 2022 he went out to a couple who had just lost their greyhound. Within a short space of time, his behaviour became negative with growling and baring his teeth and he was once again returned. The next 12 months for Josh have involved intensive work with Erik from ‘Talk of the Dog’. Josh was taken by Erik to numerous veterinary assessments, x-rays and tests and chiropractic assessment and treatments to discuss whether this was indeed behavioural or medical. From these veterinary assessments and appointments, it was deemed his behaviour was mainly due to the fact that he was in pain which would explain his negative outbursts and in turn created behavioural problems. Erik kindly agreed to assess him behaviourally. He was started on various medications. This became a juggling act with the amount he had been prescribed but again with Eriks support, this was finally adjusted and stabilised. With Eriks behavioural assessment and training skills he responded well and along with the involvement of Erik’s wife and young daughter, Josh’s behaviour became positively controlled As part of his behavioural training, Erik worked with sound desensitisation as certain noises could trigger Josh into negative behaviour. Supporting Josh has financially had a big impact on Daybreaks. As we pledge to never give up on a dog, especially as we deemed his negative behaviour was due to being in pain, we sought every avenue of help. As Erik was already fostering Caesar, there had been a couple of instances where Josh and Caesar had not seen eye to eye so after almost a year of being with Erik, Josh was transferred to Hannah who has continued to foster him since May 2023. With the continuous intervention of Erik and Hannah, we now feel we are in a position to find his forever home. Josh is now 8 ½ years old. He is a very loving, affectionate blue boy. What does he need? A forever home to call his own which would be a quiet home He needs and loves a good routine and clear boundaries An experienced owner would be required A predictable environment with no other pets or children to stop any triggers. His positives are: He is very settled at night and sleeps through til 7am Totally toilet trained He doesn’t bark but let’s you know when he needs to go out to toilet Eats well and takes his meds easily Loves walks and is good on the lead Can be left for a full day. Not reactive to strangers Loves his toys and plays gently Very affectionate Doesn’t react to small dogs So what are his negatives? His age is now against him and his past history of behaviour He can sometimes be startled where he will jump to his feet but once he is reassured, he is ok. He is on permanent medication but Daybreaks Trust would continue to support Josh regarding this. Do you think you could offer Josh what he needs? Please contact Daybreaks on 0121 782 7702

    I’m Homed

It was my first day back at the kennels today after having a lovely holiday in Devon with Skip, Lyra and Cracker. :)) It was very hard getting up at 5am this morning! Xxx I can throughly recommend taking your Greyhound on holiday with you. They like a break just as much as we do. :)) I loved being able to spend more time with them. Xxx It was great to meet recent new arrivals at the kennels, handsome Pan and beautiful Bessie, and to see Lady and Babe have new homes. Xxx I was really hoping our Three Musketeers Rocky, Robbie and Gal would have found homes while I was away but alas, they are all still patiently waiting....it was lovely to see them all. :)) Xxx

If this is the Maggie I met at the kennels this weekend she is adorable. She was patiently waiting at my feet in the kitchen for her brekkie but each time I moved to do something she would block me and her eyes said "you're going nowhere until that's served!!" Ha ha what a cutie, she will go far I'm sure. Best of luck little lady xx

    I’m Homed

Hello! I thought I would pop on and give everyone a little Maggie update. Maggie has been with us on a trial since last Friday which we thought would only last the weekend as my youngest son didn't cope well when we tried to adopt Babe in August. Well, by Saturday morning Maggie had taken over our house and our hearts and so her weekend trial was extended to the Wednesday, and then to the Saturday and she's still with us now. She is the biggest softie in the world and so sweet and gentle. She has made herself very comfortable on our bed during the day and is enjoying lots of walks and playing in the garden. She has also won over the hearts of everyone that has met her!

    I’m Homed

Wow! All I can say is I was considering renaming Daybreaks to ‘New Street Station’ yesterday as I had back to back appointments. Amongst these I did 8 week post homing checks for Izzy and Penny who are both thriving in their new homes and gaining weight nicely. I was busy with corns. Poor greyhounds seem blighted with them so I hull them to give them temporary relief. Laura was busy with well care bookings, the sand run was also back to back appointments. Mid afternoon a viewing for a couple not ready to adopt until the New Year seemed positive. Whilst I was driving home I had a phone call from them asking to reserve pretty Tegan! Kate has been on holiday this week and I look forward to her being back on Monday. We all send our continued love and get well wishes to Jo and she is missed greatly. Another busy day ahead but as everyone knows …. I thrive on ‘busy’!
