very sadly our lovely old boy Rick passed away on Tuesday evening it was very sudden and he didn't suffer .We were lucky enough to have had him in our lives for nearly 7 years but we are missing him dreadfully run free big lad xx

Thought I had better update our progress with Jet. He has settled well and I am pleased to say there has not been one incident of any sort between him and Amber. They seem to take it in turns to being in charge...... Jet is very reactive to cats and small dogs but we will work on this. I think it will be a long while before he will do any free running but hopefully we will get there! It was such a tragic demise of Bo but every cloud has a silver lining, but in this case it is black!

2019 Daybreaks Diary!

It was a busy day at Daybreaks today - most of which was spent dodging the downpours!! Goodness me, didn't it rain?!?! The doggies were almost back after the morning walks when the heavens opened - they didn't look too happy as they came dripping through the gate! However, I think they all enjoyed the lovely towel rub down after they were back all snuggly in their kennels. We saw Sam and Hector off to their new homes this afternoon - wishing them and their new families many happy times ahead. We also had a viewing, customers for the sand run, and very kind donations of bedding and towels - this made the afternoon whizz past and it was supper time for the doggies before we knew it. Another weekend is upon us and my usual wish for red signs is made, we have a kennel full of black beauties at the moment who would love a sofa to call their own. My wish is accompanied by a glass or two of red wine - purely medicinal you understand after a wet & chilly day!! I hope the weather improves soon, and that everyone has a good weekend. Cheers! Sounds to me like sara definitely sent this little girl! And Ruth thank goodness you did set daybreaks up, just think of all the fabulous work you and your team of staff and volunteers do and all the gorgeous hounds you've helped over the years and continue to help...their lives would have been very bleak, if at all, without you. You should all be very proud of yourselves xxx

So Hector met his new family on Monday and is now packing his bag to leave us tomorrow. We have so enjoyed having him staying with us and will really miss him but we know he'll be very happy in his new home with his new brother Teddy. Have a wonderful life gorgeous boy xxxx

2019 Daybreaks Diary!

After the sadness of saying goodbye to Sara at her funeral on Tuesday, on arrival back at the kennels she had sent us a gift..... a stray girl had arrived, picked up in Elmdon Park. As she had no name, you guessed it.... we called her Sara! She is such a sweet poppet so the relevant authorities have been informed and Head Office have asked us to rehome her if she is not reclaimed - we will add her photo and details if this happens. Yesterday was a very busy day but I set to work and gave the treatment room a spring clean ready for our new set of scales to be delivered today. As much as I wanted some very posh scales but couldn't afford them, I am grateful to Phil at MK Scales for sorting us out a set of ex-dem scales which came just within the budget of £200 from the Greyhound Trust to buy some more. As we weigh every dog on arrival and then again every 12 days, these are instrumental in our work so I am grateful for the donation to allow me to purchase these. We are not doing too bad as the previous 2 sets I purchased have lasted just over 6 years each! I am also grateful to the Greyhound Trust for supporting Tigger. She came to the Trust with a deformed leg. She is going to hydrotherapy twice a week and is scheduled to have her op on the 21st May to straighten her leg. We will keep you posted on her progress. As Kate said, at Sara's funeral it was overwhelming at how many volunteers that knew Sara via the kennels came along. Daybreaks not only helps the lives of the hounds that are lucky enough to come to us but many humans too. Despite the heartache it has given me over the years which often outweighs the happiness, I am still glad I started Daybreaks.
